"Outstanding"
This was just great. The wrapper left was seamless, little modeling on the wrapper. Burned great, I didn't lite it perfect but it corrected it self, It kept going out in the last 3 inches but thats to be expected. The flavours where very complex and i would say medium body full flavour but just outstanding. It's pricey but well worth it for that special cigar. One of my all time favorites.

"Dissapointment"
Every time I smoke a Cohiba, I wonder what happened to all of the good rollers in Cuba. I've had a number of Esplenditos sitting in my Humidor from my parents 2000 trip to Cuba. I've worked my way through the Siglo's and Montecristo's, but was saving the Esplenditos for the right time.
I decided to smoke one the other day. I clipped and lit it, and could barely draw from it. There were notes of wood, grass and honey, but the construction tainted the experience. I struggled with the cigar for about an hour before I put it down.
And yes this Cigar was authentic. Frankly, I wish it wasn't!

"Is Legend stil allive?"
Friend of mine made me a present from Cuba. Its legal in Europe - Cuban cigars:)... He bought not fake, but true Cohibas in official govmnt. store. And I was surprised how many low quality cigars were in box!!! more then 1/3! Its total shame! Yes, well made cigars were superb, but 7 or 8 unsmokable tobacco sticks in a box??!! Its scary! Sorry no for socialist low quality products...

"Excellent smoke"
While out of the country I finally broke down and tried my first Cuban Cigar. I normally prefer value priced cigars but I was talked into it. I will say it was worth the extra investment. I typically go for medium body cigars ans this one was more full bodied but it was a pleasure for tip to tip. It was very smooth with some kick but not as much as I was expecting, the texture was excellent and the burn fantastic. It was an excellent experience, I only wish I could have brought some more home with me.

"A good one..."
I really hate having to give Cohiba cigars good reviews, but I had one of these the other day and I was impressed. Don't get me wrong...Cohiba makes some of the tastiest things out there, but the price...jeez. Are they really twice as good as everything else? Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure, this Esplendido was remarkable. A great smoke, just too pricey.

"Restored from dryness"
When I started business school in September 2003, I learned that one of my teammates had a box of Cohiba Esplendidos that she bought in Cuba in 2002 but she did not have a humidor. It was my idea to attempt to restore them so they could be a great smoke to celebrate our graduation 18 months later. The good news I was able to do so. I stored them in a desktop humidor and rotated them every 3 months. They generated the plume from the crystallization of the oils, which is a sign of well aging. It was a lot of fun to produce the restored cigars upon our graduation. Even though I was able to restore them, I doubt if they were in prime smoking condition. I took that in consideration when scoring this fine cigar.

"Even Better With Age"
About a year ago I ranked an '02 Esplendido as the best Cohiba I had ever smoked. Tonight I had the privilege of smoking a '95 courtesy of a herf buddy, and it blew the doors off the others I've smoked. That garssy Cohiba profile was still there, but the youth in the cigar was gone and replaced by smoother, deeper flavor and a better punch. A tad tight on the draw but not enough to detract from the outstanding flavors, and a razor sharp burn that stayed straight right to the nub. An outstandng cigar, undoubtedly the best Cohiba I ever smoked ...really!

"a beauty"
The wrapper was smooth and almost completely free of visible veins on the surface, which is coloured with a golden-tan shade and a slightly darker bunching of filler leaves at the foot of the cigar. Clipping the opposite end revealed the same familiar pattern of “bunched” filler leaves at the head with immediately revealed the same honey-like, manure aroma of fine quality Cuban tobacco.

Drawing through the cigar before lighting it produced a delightful flavour of creamy, rich tobacco with a barely detectable hint of spice. After evenly heating the foot of the cigar, I placed it in between my lips to savour that first draw of toasted tobacco … no bitterness, no bite … just a smooth, creamy flavour reminiscent of the Cohiba blend.

For such a young cigar, I expected a slight bitterness at the start; however, from the first to the last draw, I found nothing but pleasant, rich flavors with subtle complexities as the flavors shifted ever so slightly from buttery to almost sweet, bringing back memories of the butter-cream icing spice cakes my mother used to bake for my birthday each year.

The cigar burned perfectly with a wonderful draw, producing mouthful after mouthful of soft, balanced flavors. The dark gray ash was highlighted with pale white streaks, as the first fragment dropped off after about two to three inches.

Although the underlying creamy flavors continued to develop throughout the entire cigar, subtle flavour changes became apparent at every inch or two. Toasted tobacco flavors and a mild nuttiness appeared and disappeared as the smoke entered my mouth and left through my nostrils..

I fully understand how the Cohiba Esplendido is one of the most sought after cigars in the world. As delightful as this cigar was at such an early age, I can only imagine how sublime it will be after several years of aging. If you have never tried one of these fabulous cigars, I encourage you to try one when the opportunity arises. You will not be disappointed when you smoke one of these

"A Flagship Smoke"
The stick I smoked was a gift, shared from a box that had about 2 years humidor aging. Lovely condition. I'm not going to compare this smoke. Its a refined, balanced and graceful way to experience a cigar. possibly one of the best I have ever had. Its costly but not expensive. Truly a reference smoke, and one that I will be treating myself to more often.

"Real niiiiccce!"
I had three of these a couple years ago but my tastes hadn't been refined yet and I couldn't tell you with certainty how they were. About a month ago an acquaintance of mine went to Aruba for a mini vaca. He brought home a couple Montys and one of these. I got first pick and since I don't come across these too often, I grabbed it up. I offered to reimburse him the 7 dollars he paid for it but he declined respectfully. I thanked him and put it away when I got home. I was hesitant to be excited because since he had only paid 7 bones for it, I was sure it was a fakie. I looked closely and the label seemed legit. Now I was still hesitant because of the bad luck I've had with supposed "top notch" cigars. I wanted so bad for it to own up to the hype Cubans receive. I sat on it for a month and today seemed like the right day to bust it out. It felt a little dry and I was concerned that I lost flavor due to improper storage but all those concerns were about to go away. I know some people like to have scotch or coffee while enjoying a smoke but often I have a tall glass of room temperature water next to me. It cleans my palette nicely and I just like water. Anyway, I lit it right after the steelers kickoff. I gently got it burning how I like and sat back, waiting my way through the first inch before evaluating. I was impressed with it already. I couldn't place the tastes quite yet so I kept smoking. I saw another review that claimed a "grassy" taste but I would venture to say it was more like sweet celery. I could taste salt as well. I was really diggin' the balance of salt and sweet. (Almost like light cane sugar) The ash was white (if anyone cares) and if I wouldn't have bumped my hand in excitement due to the game I was watching, the ash would've reached 3 inches before falling off. By that time The flavor had added nuts and cream to the recipe. That's pretty much how the whole thing smoked and I'm glad because it was a true treat. The burn was even with a medium sweet finish. It lasted close to 2 hours. I'm glad I smoked it so I can add my 2 cents and agree with others about Cubans. (At least my limited experience.) First impressions last and I expect nothing less from my next ones.

"Highly Overrated"
While an extremely good smoke, I have enjoyed better cigars. Definitely authentic as I purchased a box from a habanos store in Camaguey Cuba. While the apprearance and construction was peerless, I found a little too much nictotine and have to share them in order not to waste. I thought the flavor was a little on the light side compared to other Cubans ... ashed darker than an average cuba Montecristo No.4

"a gentlemens smoke"
Unlike many reviews of this cigar I always enjoy my esplendidos. I didn't expect a powerhouse or a full bodied spicey stick so I wasn't let down. What I did get was exquisit walnut notes with vanilla flavors for a medium bodied smoke. Perfect burn and draw. Quality construction at its best. My box was from 04, so if you didn't fully enjoy yours, shelf them a while. Like all quality habanos they mature very well. A year or two will do the trick (if you can hold out that long).

"Anticlimactic"
I bought this cigar months ago ($27) to smoke when I finished grad. school. That day finally came, so with much anticipation, I pulled it out of the humidor and fired it up. It started off with crisp clover and alfalfa flavors over notes of cedar and remained that way for the first 1 – 2 inches. After that, it turned to clean cedar with some very faint vanilla and cream on the finish. The construction was perfect – likely the best I’ve experienced with a Habano - and the burn was equally as good. The quality of this cigar was unquestionable, both in terms of the choice tobacco used to make it and the craftsmanship of its construction. Keep all of that in mind as I now tell you that I was rather let-down by this stick. I was expecting a rich, spicy, creamy, flavorful experience that was second-to-none. This cigar was a refined, sophisticated, medium-bodied smoke with little character. In that sense, it reminded me a lot of the Padron ’64 series, which I also don’t care for. (I have more respect for Padron ’64 fans now though. If the Cohiba Esplindido really is a benchmark cigar, then Padron hits the mark quite well). Given all the hype, I was expecting to be blown away. But the reality of the situation is that I’ve had many, many cigars that I liked better than this – a lot of which are not even Cuban. So while this was not a bad smoke, I felt it was dull and could have been a lot better. I do recognize however that this is purely a matter of personal opinion. My advice is that if you have the opportunity to try one of these you should do so, but be mindful of the fact that while you will get a quality cigar, you likely won’t find it remarkably better than most other good cigars, (as the hype would lead you to believe). P.S. – In case you’re questioning the authenticity of this cigar, don’t. I didn’t get it off some beach vendor in Cancun - I bought it from Cigarone.com.

"Terrific but WAY overated."
You always hear "You can't beat a Cuban cigar", and I'll agree with that, but even if this was better then your standard CAO Churchill, it didn't seem $20 dollars better. I can't bash the full experience, becuase I only got to finish the last half of a buddies, but it was very full-bodied, burned very easily, unravelled a little, and was definately work the experience. Everything was a 9+ but the value, though.

"Outstanding"
A truly outstanding cigar. This churchill with box code CLE 12/02 comes wrapped in a khaki wrapper with hardly any veins to speak of and fine tooth. Triple cap and only one sun spot to mention. Construction was excellent without soft spots. Rich barnyard prelight aroma. Easy light. Good draw. Even burn without the need for corrections or relights. Gray-black ash. Started with traditional Cohiba flavors of grass, cocoa, and mild spice. The first third brought notes of vanilla, mild creamed coffee, and a hint of cinammon and nutmeg on a backdrop of grass. The middle third continued with the grassy backdrop with notes of dusted cocoa, mild top soil, cream, and a mild tangy flavor. In the last third, the flavors intensified and a mild chocolate undertone was noted. All in all, this one hour 45 minute medium-bodied, complex smoke was everything a great Cuban cigar should be. Smoked on a Sunday morning with a cup of Kona - it was a tremendous experience. Bought a box.

An awesome cigar. Without a doubt one of the best I've smoked. Very well made, like most Habanas, with an almost perfect draw. Medium bodied, and super tasty with a nice array a flavours and complexity. It burned quite evenly as well. A friend purchased a 3 pack while on a cruise in the Carribean. $90 was the price tag, and he bought them at a reputable dealer, so I'm 100% sure it wasn't a fake. More is what a want, more of this forbidden fruit. For now a nice cigar from another country will do just fine, though.

A fantastic cigar when its a good one. Bought the last seven of these and given the box. The first one I smoked was incredible. I said to my roomate who doesnt smoke this is the best one ive ever had. He said yea it smells awesome. Creamy sweet strong smooth. A great combination of all mentionned. The problem and why I dont give it a 9.2 or higher is inconcsistancy. The bad ones arent aweful but they are not great. Draw problems lighting and burn plague the bad ones. A good smoke. Well made with a rich cuban flavor, but just better than the wealth of FABULOUS cigars out there. Gurkha, Torano, and even Macanudo have honduran filler brands that are just as good for about 75% less. If you need to say "It's Cuban" then have at it. If you want a great smoke, there are better alternatives.

Well, it was an Esplendido--the taste, body, aroma, complexity, and feel were all there. However, its draw was just this side of plugged, an issue that has plagued the Cuban product for years now. Had its draw been not so tight, this cigar would have easily been the best of its kind, but at this moment, I'm thinking the H.Uppman Sir Winston is the one to beat.

I was on my Honeymoon when I had to try a Cuban cigar. Never had a cigar before this one. I hustled a Mexican shop owner for these beauties. $40 for 7. If I had known what I was getting, I would have paid much more! For the next few days I was in heaven. These are not light cigars! Very powerful flavor. I can't describe them the way most aficionados do because I'm slowly becoming one and surely wasn't one then, but they were truley remarkable cigars. I would probably break the law for more!

"WOW"
This Cohiba came out of a friend's humidor that appeared to be lacking regular proper maintenance. I was also forced to smoke this thing on a frigid covered patio in a driving rain storm. That having been said, I find it difficult to believe that this cigar could have been much better if stored and smoked in a pristine environment. The complex and smooth flavors vault this cigar to the upper levels of cuban bliss. To me the Esplendido makes superb cigars such as the Monte #2 and Hoyo Double Corona seem ordinary. I did have to relight this one once (probably got a little wet due to rain). If you are lucky enough to find one of these that is authentic and doesn't have burn and/or draw problems, you likely have lucked into cigar paradise.

This is one of Cubas better cigars. I found it to be fantastic in flavor but lacking in construction. Just to tightly rolled, but it did burn good. The flavor was fantastic ( coffee, leather, cocoa) . This cigar is creamy as i've ever had. Just an outstanding experance. A must try for all cigar smokers out there. Now the price OUTRAGESLY high. Here in the USA getting these a challenge too, so the best price i've found was $35 ea.

"Damn....."
Construction is just perfect. It sparked up nicely and draw & burn were exemplary. I was surprised at how smooth this one was, I guess I was expeting more power. Party shorts are my go to small cigar and this one in my view is just a lot bigger and better version. Ash didn't want to hang around like some of the Nic smokes that I've had but it was habano gray and easily held on more than an inch. A little more power in the first half and it would be perfect. The price doesn't bother me, I'd rather one of these than three 5-6 dollar smokes.

I agree, there is a little inconsistency from time to time....but when they are good, they come from another world. Cuba, actually. This last one was so full of flavors (cocoa, coffee, leather) and burned so well I was so sorry to see it finish. Given the (low) price I paid, a full 10/10.

"The taste....oh wow"
Being my first ISOM, I wasn't sure what to expect. It didn't look all that great, but I just had to try it. The taste is magnificent. I only noticed a HINT of pepper at the end of this smoke. The rest of time it was a creamy, cocoa and nut taste that kept me as content as possible.
The burn, however, is terrible. I've never had a worse cigar in that respect. 3 full-on relights and at least 7 touch-ups. If it weren't for the unbelievable taste, I would have ditched it.
Luckily, I was gifted this stick...as there is no way I'd drop $15+ for it. It was awesome, but that's just too much.

"The Best and Worst"
I've smoked nearly 30 Esplendidos over the past two years. The first one was the best cigar I've ever tasted. I would rate it a 9.5 on taste alone! The rest were all over the board. After realizing that it was quite possible I was not smoking the real thing, I took painful efforts $$$ to ENSURE I did smoke the real thing. It was a disappointment.

The cigar is a beauty, no question that it is constructed well also. Unlike a Padron or Opus X, this cigar lacks consistancy - they are either REAL GOOD or a real waste of money! This significantly impacted my evaluation - to spend $50 for a cigar that may or may not be great is a CRIME! - (Side note: spending $50 on any cigar is a bit ridiculous)

The value, given its inconsistancies, is poor. I rated the flavor high (largely due to the fond memories I have of my first smoke!) - most since that memorable experience I would rate around a 5 to 7. Advice - find the real article, let it set for a year - then smoke it - I've spent anywhere from $50 to $8 for this cigar.

The pleasure you get out of smoking a cigar is something only true cigar lovers can understand . Smoking a cohiba esplendido is a landmark in every cigar lover's apprenticeship. First it's a churchill, a module that is somewhat demanding ; second it's an excellent churchill with typical Cohiba caracteristics: quality , smoothness , complexity and "seductiveness"!

Not sure of the age, but I think it was young, certainly from the last 6 - 12 months. Despite its youth, it was awesome. I know this cigar would improve with time, but it's too good to last in a humidor. The cigar was extremely dense, but the draw was good, and the burn was PERFECT the whole way down to the nub. Rich, leathery flavor throughout, just awesome. I'm impressed.

I'm lost for words. By far, this cigar was the best I have ever smoked. It really was an significant emotional event as I saw it. Having lost my Lighter to the gods of airport security, I used a regular pack of matches. Didn't matter though. This stick righted itself in about three puffs. The flavor was so intense, that I felt that I was being overwealmed by its complexity. The construction was immaculate. And as to its lifespan, I had to smoke it until My fingers were turning brown. Please President Bush, take a break and lift the Embargo on Cuba. This was truly the best cigar I have ever smoked.

"Buy only if 100% sure"
I have been avoiding Cohiba brand for quite some time now because of the price - $475 a box in Spain and even more in GB, and because there are lots of true Cuban gem alternatives at more affordable price. I bought 4 boxes back in 1989-1991 and smoke them occasionally. From the moment Esplendido is lit up it gives out very intense flavor. The flavor is complex with strong sweet spice and cool smoke till the very end. Sometimes it tastes like one of my favorite cheeses, but that’s probably because they are more than 10 years old. Its one of the most "famous" cigars therefore, one of the most counterfeited. However if you can get a genuine item, then it is a must smoke for a true aficionado.

IF IT NOT THE REAL THING, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
AND YOUR MONEY ON A CONTERFIET. CHECK ALL THE
SIGNS THAT YOU HAVE A TRUE MASTERPIECE TO SMOKE
AND SAVOUR. A TRUE HAVANAS SHOULD NEVER BE
MISTAKEN OR CONFUSED WITH THE DOMINICAN!

Cohiba cigars are the highest quality cigars I have ever smoked. They have a good draw, consistent flavor, and oh! what a flavor it is. I cannot possible find a better cigar.
