Great draw, full flavor taste...a thing of beauty top hold in your hand. A cigar to be savored and a box to be saved. A great Cuban in an era of lousy cubans.

"One of the Best Cuban Robustos"
What can I say that has not already been said. Smoked Christmas Eve from box MAR 2008. Beautiful construction, flawless wrapper, very densely packed. Perfect draw, with a nice twang and beautiful notes of cocoa, spice, and molasses in the final third. No youthful bite, as seen in many Cubans at this age. Beautiful black/ gray ash. Smoked it to the nub. What is funny, that must be mentioned, is that this stick makes me wonder even more if Cuban filler is making its way into the NIC puros, especially Pepin's, that are on the market today. I am tasting many of the same flavors and aroma in the BRC in Pepin's My Father, Tatuaje, and DPG lines.

"The last from my box ;-("
Well, if you noticed my last post was referencing the belicoso...not the RC. However, I smoked another last night and it was fine besides the burn. I think everyone knows the taste is par none! This stick however did not burn straight nor was it easy to draw. It was probably an aboration. Regardless, you should never pass on this stick!

"My first won't be my last!"
What a great cigar! It was surprisingly light in appearance. I wasn't expecting the wrapper be so much lighter than the RC which I am much more experienced smoking. It would take alot to overtake the RC in my book, but this belicoso smoked great reminding me if the upmann #2.

"A very nice Cuban that's ready to smoke now!"
I've recently come to enjoy Cuban cigars but have a difficult time just looking at them for a year or more as is sometimes required. This baby is ready to smoke right now, of course it can get better but it's read to go! Somewhat rough looking when compared with fine non-cubans but you expect that going in. Light up and burn were nearly perfect with one touch up required 2/3rds in. Draw was nice and easy with voluminous amounts of creamy smoke, more than I typically see from a Cuban. It's very spongy in the mouth. Wrapper is very strong, held up nice as I chomped on it a bit. While it had that Cuban twang, it definitely didn't get me buzzed like a Montecristo does. Lots of cream throughout and vanilla and cocoa notes come and go. This would be a great morning or afternoon cigar and then perhaps something a little stronger after dinner. This cigar offers a nice value when compared with Partagas and Montecristo. A classic!

"Great Cigar, Great Size"
What a cigar....The wrapper is strong with no real visable veins. The burn was even and I didn't have to relight at all the first 4 sticks I smoked out of a 06 Box. They really don't have to mature, because the taste is smooth, no harshness or difficultty pulling. I'm glad I have another 20 to smoke!!

"No hype here - this one is for real"
This was a very good cigar. Everything about it was top-notch. The construction was perfect and the flavor was terrific. I found it to be somewhat earthy with lots of tea, but notes of all kinds of flavors jumped in and out throughout the smoke, including nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa. It was full flavored, yet refined and sophisticated; never overpowering. Truly an excellent cigar.

"Cigar of the Year"
I originally tried these cigars after I saw the "Cigar of the Year" video on Cigar Aficionado. I have since smoked my first box. Overall I agree. These cigars are incredible. They are perfectly made and with a great draw and ash with a burst of flavor. They are smooth mildly creamy and nutty with chocolate and coffee notes. It is very well made and with a long finish. It is enjoyable anytime during the day. However, there were some consistency problems in the first box I smoked. 15 of the 25 cigars were one of the best cigars I ever smoked and almost ruined it for all the other types of cigars in my humidor. Five were great and fve were pain and slightly bitter.

"not bad for #85, eh?"
I glanced at the ranking list today. If there are 84 cigars out there better than the Bolivar RC, I'm Lars Tetens. Seriously, has anyone here ever uttered the words, "No, I'll pass on that Boli, gimme one of those 5 Vegas Atomics instead?" I didn't think so. This is and has been one of the best five cigars in the world for a few years running. I've noticed little change since my last review nine months ago. It was complex, smooth and without a hint of bite fresh off the truck, and remains so now. Earth, nuts and leather, with pleasant baking spices and a slightly creamy character toward the end. Powerful, but in a mature, sophisticated manner. Just awesome.

"My #1 Cigar of All Time"
Got a box from COH-HK dated Sep 06. Excellent construction but a crappy box. Made me think if they are fake but they are NOT. Could not wait to smoke one. Just smoked and the draw was just perfect. The earthy, creamy, coffee notes are just amazing. It taste like a fine wine or a fine steak when it creates a party on your palete. I enjoyed every puff to the end. Ash was solid and fell right an inch into the cigar. Its so good that no other none-cuban can even compare to the complexity and fine tatse. Difinately the finest cigar in the world. Will buy a box again.

"Nice cigar"
A very fine cigar. Mild start and then creamy with chocolate although still spicy. The one I smoked had some kind of fault in the outer construction since part of the cover leaf simply did not burn, it only got black and fell off... This draw some of the points down but the taste was good and in the end I think that is the most important thing. Maybe the next one will be better constructed and thus earn a better rating!

I smoked an '06 last night, and it is a much better cigar fresh than were the '04s and '05s. The taste had that familiar Boli punch, and the draw and burn issues that seemed to plague the '04s and '05s were gone...perfect draw and perfect burn. It will be interesting to see how these age, but right now they seem to be smoking very nicely ROTB.

First from box just recieved COH-HK, code "POS Jul 06". Beautiful wrapper and excellent draw through out. Started mild with simple medium spice and developed into creamy chocolate and stronger spice after the first inch, very firm ash, burn was great for such a young Habano. "My first perfect 10!"
Just cracked a box dated July 06 and logged in to write about it only to notice the last few reviews raving about boxes with identical date codes. These are THE BOMB guys. Absolutely perfect wrappers, a slight press, impecable draw, and flavor, flavor, flavor! Whatever the cubans have been doing, I say keep it up. Smooth, spicy, balanced, and perfect! Loads of leather, light cedar, and sweet spice. That flavor that Vitamin N couldn't identify was probably light caramel. Smoke fills the mouth without any effort at all and leaves behind a taste I didn't want to ruin with 30 year old scotch. My taste buds are singing! A perfect 10 (a first) and this from a guy that doesn't like rubustos! I am ordering another box as soon as I finish typing. Wish I could afford a dozen.

"My Favorite"
I read this somewhere..."Just go buy a box". This was great advice. I have been smoking robustos for years and this is the BEST one I have found. I prefer it to the other two great cuban robustos, the partagas Serie D no.4 and the Cohiba. This cigar is smooth right out of the gat and stays that way. About an inch in the first flavors of light leather kick in with a light flavor of wood. About halfway through, look out here come more flavorful nuances of leather and wood with another light flavor that I can't quite describe except to say breadiness. So smoooth all the way until you have to put it out or get burned. Smoke this one slowly and enjoy it. IMHO, this one beats all other robustos.

It's all been said about this cigar. Truely a must smoke from the ISOM. As smooth as a full bodied cigar can be, with the great notes of Cuban earthiness, coffee bean, very toasty and chewy. Great draw and superb exhales from start to finish. My favorite cuban robusto to this point. Box date jul06, I've had three the next few will have to wait and the final 10 will sit over a year. I can't wait.

"A Benchmark, and for good reason"
What can I say about the RC that hasn't been said a hundred times? The box I'm working on now is JUL06 and, yes, I am a fool to be smoking them this young. When tasting these, I can only wonder what the Bolivars of the early-90s, which I've read was the ass-kicking heyday of the brand, must've been like. As far as my box of youngsters goes, the draw is effortless, the solid box press is gorgeous, and the rich, full-bodied flavors are endlessly complex. I'd love to know what one of these will taste like a few years down the road, but who am I kidding? I haven't the discipline to leave them alone for that long.

"An Experience"
I'm half way through my first box of these and I can't get enough of them. I've smoked several other Cubans in between as well as some highly rated non-Cubans and these are probably the most intriguing. Silky, dark wrapper dripping with oil. Densly rolled and solid in the hand the construction is excellent with the traditional 3-seam cap. The first 1/4 of the cigar had a difficult draw, but eased up. Even burn with a tight grey-white flakey ash. The flavor was rich and complex, a full-bodied dynamo with tastes ranging from earth, cocoa, coffe...intensified as I smoked but never harsh - even had a creamy, spicey quality. I recommend a nice single malt and a comfotable chair. This cigar will make you light headed, so you should not be standing while you smoke it! Highly recommended...

A great cigar -- very well balanced and tasteful smoke. Has an easy draw and burns well. Predominate flavors of cedar and earth with a delicate spicy aroma that is real jaw-dropper. These are perfect right off the truck, 2006 release to boot. My new goto young Habano. My only complaint is that the wrapper needed occasional correction -- but with a taste and aroma like this, that's nothing. Probably the best smoke I've had this year.

"Strong and Tasty"
A strong and tasty cigar! Box code ARA DIC '02. This thick stick is draped in a lush dark chocolate wrapper with mild veining. Hefty in the hand. Solid construction without and soft spots. Easy light. Smooth draw. Even burn. No need for corrections or relights. Gray-black ash. Started with bold black pepper, spice and earth. The first third brought flavors of rich top soil, burnt dark chocolate and black cherry. The middle third had a noticeable tanginess on a background of earth and black cherry with notes of plum, warm leather, and cocoa. In the last third, the flavors intensified and introduced a charred wood note, again on an earthy foundation. All in all, this one hour smoke was a full-bodied complex powerhouse. The Vitamin N was high in this one, and I felt its lingering effects for a full hour after I nubbed it. A great stick, likely best smoked after a steak dinner than with a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning like I did. Bought a box.

"First RC & very impressed"
Just opened a JUL 05 box and had my first RC. Being a big robusto fan I have had all the Cuban brand offerings except Bolivar, that is until now. I may have saved the best until last. It was certainly the richest and strongest. They look great. Perfect construction and presentation with plume already forming. It was strong but smooth with lots of smoke. As good as CoRo and RASS (my current favorites) while offering a real distinguishably different and complex taste profile. Hearty and chewy richness, but never harsh. It is strong and you will feel it for a while. The draw was a little firmer than I like & I had to relight it once. Needs more time in the humi, but at this point on this fairly young box I was very impressed. If you like full-bodied smokes this is as good as it gets.

If there Ever were a stick to enjoy with a great backyard BBQ THIS IS IT! My personal choice in the bolivar family, this robusto allows copius amounts of thick creamy smoke, seemingly more than other robustos. Generally soft in the hand but rolled tight enough that you have enough time to enjoy, and don't have to worry about re-lights between bites either. Obviously Bolivar, with all it's trademark characteristics of chocolate and espresso...and it strangely compliments traditional american BBQ foods so well, I can't have one without the other!

These sat in my humidor glaring at me for about 6 months when I finally gave into the urge and smoked them. Well, this time it was very good. All the flavours were there, earth, cocoa, it was smooth and perfectly made. I rerate it, happily, as one of the best robustos. In my efforts to redefine my favorite robustos, I would say Bolivar is back in the running for top 5. Past experiences with this gar were less than stellar. I have had several draw and/or burn problems with this cigar lately. Even at its best, this cigar is no Partagas Serie D or Cohiba. I would lump it in with the Ramon Allones Specially Selected as a fairly consistent performer that lacks the complexity of the very best cuban robustos mentioned above. Frankly, the flavor reminds me of many of the Opus X cigars I've had. Strong, spicy, but kind of lacking an encore of secondary flavors. If you are looking for a solid cuban cigar at a value price, this may be right up your alley.

"Slightly Disappointed"
My first BRC was a great smoking experience(see my comments) but the ones after that were less than brilliant: I blamed for #2, bought in Juan Les Pins, the bad french habit of over-humidification and the lack of an available torch (I had big problems in relighting it, I was on the beach..) but for #3 no excuse: it just came out of my best humidor, I had a torch and no wind, I was at home. Honestly, it was not bad, but it was a bit dull, like it had a filter. The flavors were there, but "distant", toned-down. Nice look but not flawless construction, I am sorry to downrate it. Maybe it's just a problem of incosistency or of age.

My thoughts on this smoke can be summed up thusly: I was in a casino in Vegas, playing a little poker, and enjoying this absolutely gorgeous and well aged cigar. The dealer first remarked " Sir, the aroma of your cigar is making me crave a cigar." Next a young man walked over and asked " Sir, may I ask what your smoking"? next a beautiful lady walked over and sat down stating " Sir, I must ask what kind of cigar is that"? Bottom line when smoking one of these people call you "Sir" ... 🙂

"ok"
The Bolivar RC is an excellent looking cigar. Perhaps I ended up with a bad box though. These seem to have a tight draw. Each time I finish one, I keep wishing they'd smoke as good as the look!!!

"Smooth, full flavor!"
Wow! My first Bolivar RC and it won't be my last! I now appreciate what a great cuban should taste like! Strong flavor yet smooth; cool, great mouth feel, draw and lots of smoke. Construction just OK; had to tend to an uneven burn here and there, but well worth it! Had to sit down for the 2nd half. As another reviewer wrote, don't operate heavy machinery after one of these. Another reviewer said this cigar is not for beginners; I'd have to agree, but well worth working towards.

"I wanted the stronger"
This smoke had a smooth wrapper without a single blemish or any large veins. The triple cap was neat and tiddy. The draw was very smooth and I got the expected even burn. Highest marks for construction. This was a mild to medium boddied smoke. The flavor was fairly consistant. Woody with some peppery notes that seemed to ebb occasionally. I didn't especially care for the strength and flavor profile of this smoke, but the quality was hard to ignore. I have heard that the strength & flavor on these has been all over the map.

"BoxCode=RC NOSU VCI 1998"
One of the most highly refined Cubans I have smoked to date. A definate medium boddied smoke with a rich woody flavor that carried the peppery spice rather nicely. I did manage to avoid burning myself as this robusto burned down to my finger tips. A neat triple cap with rough wrapper that showed little tooth and few veins

"ROYAL IT IS"
Excellent cigar. Not for begginers or the weak. Strong full bodied flavor with no harshness detected. It even gets better with aging in humidor(avg. 6mos)

"Vavoom!"
Earthy, rich, chewy, and with a roundness of flavor only aged Cuban tobacco can deliver. I didn't know whether to smoke this baby or take it home to meet my mom. Make sure you're not operating any heavy machinery.

"Bolivar (Cuba) Robusto"
A great cigar! Everything I expected a Cuban robusto to be..... strong and full of flavor without the harshness that so often plagues full bodied cigars. Definately one smoke that should be on your "Must Try" list!

"Good cigar!"
Really good taste! Fairly strong, but not overpowering. Lasts longer than you would expect a 5-inch cigar to last.

The flavor was great, but the burn
problems limited this cigar from its
potential. The cigar wrapper was hard
to keep lit - it kept tunneling.

It's a shame this Boli RC was wrapped in elegant "El Corojo" and aged some but just didn't have it in the flavor arena.

Excellent full flavor. Truely one of my top ten favorite Cubans. This one was well aged with a smooth draw and light grey ash. I wanted it to last forever.

Great flavor. Rubust coffee and chocolate flavors emanated from the first puff.
Had some construction problems, and was difficult to draw twice during the smoke...Nonetheless, very
flavorfull smoke

Rich, powerful but not excessive. Consistently one of the best cigars in the world.

This baby has more power in a robusto than most cigars have in a whole box. OK, I'm forced to admit that the Cohiba robusto (cuban) was better. However, I picked up a Bolivar for $8 in the Netherlands, as opposed to nearly $20 for the Cohiba - it wasn't

Beautiful cigar with slightly tight draw.
Complex, spicy flavor with long finish.
Full bodied smoke goes well with a good
stout in the evening.
