"Wish it was a long story"
A friend has given me a couple of these and I've enjoyed them each time. A very smooth dark wrapper that is packed tight. Surprising amount of smoke time for a four inch cigar. The burn is very straight and you'll find yourself trying to hold onto the last bit while getting burned. The flavor has hints of spice and coffee. The cigar is on the pricey side for what I normally purchase. One of the best lunch time smokes I've had the pleasure to try.

I haven't nubbed a cigar like this in ages. Needed a paper clip to finsh. Sweet and spicy, this little "book"starts off interesting and climaxes with an inch left. Expert construction in this full bodied stick rounds out the package.

Herbal spice of tea in the first half not bad. Best part was the second half but unfortunately it ended fast due to the shortness of this cigar. Burn was a bit off and there was a decent volume of smoke.

"Good, definitly not great"
Its well constructed, good quality tobacco and well aged, but not alot on the flavor department. It also starts very dry and the flavor picks up in the second half, but not that much.

I think if your used to smoking full bodied cigars, you may be disappointed with the flavour of this cigar as I was.

"A Good Time with the Short Story!"
I go to the cigar store to check out the inventory to get first dibs on any new, rare cigars or stock that comes in. This was one, they only had 5 in stock I purchased them all, as I noticed these were tough to get online. I smoked one amazed at the small size. The flavor was good, the burn was 25-30 minutes on a 4" cigar! A little spicy, a good smoke and a good taste for the price and the quality of the cigar. A must try and good cigar. Don't let the small size fool you...This cigar is 8 feet tall!

"A little biased"
I have to admit I am a little biased toward this smoke and was so at time of purchase. Hemingway is my favorite author, long before I found cigars, so I was a bit partial. I enjoyed this smoke immensely, short as the name implies, but enjoyable. It was a little slow to start, but once the plot was established, I kept reading. The ending was not bad either. Wasnt the best smoke I ever had, would smoke again, but the price point is a little high. Definitely paying more for the name than the flavor, but good cigar overall.

"A short story by Kevo"
The wrapper was a dark brown and slightly toothy. The prelit aroma was of dried, dark fruit....something along the lines of raisins. There was also a noticeable aroma of cedar. I tasted the cap, which was surprising sweet. The appearance of the Short Story was good. It was a little rough in some areas though. I clipped the head and the draw was tight, but I attributed this to the perfecto end. After lighting, the initial flavors were sweet and fruity (dark, dried fruity). This lingered for the first half inch and then we slowly moved into nutty and woody flavors. The sweetness was there all the way to the end. The ash was a light grey and was firm. It fell off about half way through. The coal that was left was cone-shaped. After the ash fell off, this smoke got progressively more bitter. I purged a few times and then the next puff was a little less bitter, but the one after that was bitter. I let this smoke die with about an inch left due to the intensifying bitterness. This Short Story lasted me 55 minutes.

"A nice small cigar..."
This Cigar starts with a strong punch of Cedar and Sweet cocoa flavor at the tip, possibly because of the filler wrapper ratio. But it loses its punch within the 1st ten minutes and takes on a small bit of bitterness. As has been suggested, some time in the humidor might help to add some complexity to this still very nice smoke.

I love this little guy. A 20 - 30 minute smoke with awesome flavor, a great draw and lots of smoke. Medium bodied. I just wish it was 3 bucks instead of $4.75. I will knock down the "Value" score a little because it is just a little pricey for such a little cigar. But I will continue to buy 'em.

I let this one age a fw months longer... boy what a difference. The draw and burn were perfect, where the burn was off on my previous review. For a small cigar, this one is packed full of flavor. The spicey and roasted nut flavors are met with a nice sence of wood and earthy tones. A great melody of flavors. Great little smoke when you are in a hurry and don't have much time.

"A Dozen Years of Wonder"
I tend to agree with not loving this stick right outta the box. It aint bad but is never near its potential. Which is why starting in 1996 I began rotating 2-3 boxes to where the one I am smoking out of is generally about 3 years aged up. The box I am in the middle of now is from May 2005 and is magnificant, as were its predecessors. I invariably try one or two out of each new box with the same experience; not much depth/complexity, just spice. Sit on these a couple years and they turn into a sublime and complex finger burning masterpiece every single time. Something that these share with the Don Carlos is the box. They both benefit from being naked in the origianl box for an extended time as the aromas in the wood greatly enhance both these blends. As with so many cigars if you do not like them now sit on 'em. It has taken me several years to learn which cigars are worthy of aging and which ones are not; with more than a couple surprises in the mix both good and bad. For me this is what make the cigar experience more hobby and less habit. Picking up where the maker of a fine med-full bodied ciagr left off is very cool and worth the time and patience in the end.

Good looking construction, lit easily, great draw with a heavy volume of smoke. Medium body & complexity. Wrapper imparted a honey-like sweetness on the lips, while the smoke was lightly spiced and a bit nutty. Turned fruity at midstick with the spice increasing thru the end. Surprising nic buzz. Ashed only 1x @ the band. Decent 45 min smoke, but pricey.

This is one of my all-time favirites. Smooth, good flavor. A tiny bit of spice with an overall nutty tobacco taste. Hard to describe, it's just a good blend. Years ago when I first tried it I was with a couple smoking buddies and one of them said, "You feel like just popping the nub in your mouth at the end." This is one of the most hyped short smokes out there, so I figured I'd give it a try. I have to say it lives up to the hype. A nice woody smoke, with a bit of spice. A little bit of grass on the finish. Hard to light evenly, but eventually corrected itself. A nice short smoke, but pricey for the size. I would buy again, but only once in a while for the price.

"Meaty little stick"
Picked one up at the Fuente shop in Caesar's Palace Forum Mall (Vegas), and decided to smoke it there while I waited for the wife to finish shopping. This little stick didn't disappoint my expectations. Great flavors from the very first draw down to the nub, and was never harsh. Burned even and ash was firm. My favorite part was the last few puffs that left a lingering flavor of smoked bacon! This flavor completely through me off guard - the first time I've tasted this in a cigar, and it was wonderful.
p.s. - Casa Fuente is a must see if you're in Vegas. You pay a premium for the cigars here but they do a great job of setting a nice atmosphere for enjoying a smoke and a drink - you'll understand why when you get there....

The Hemingway line has been pretty solid. For a quick (25-40 min) smoke, this one has always been a favorite of mine. The construction is solid, decent burn and ash. Draw is smooth. "Age does wonders"
Let me start by saying that in general I don't like Fuentes. This cigar had sat in my humidor since Christmas 2005. I had tried some of these in the past and didn't care for them, so when I received this one, it went straight to the bottom of the box. Tonight I thought I'd give it a try after the long nap and wow - what a pleasant surprise. The flavors were much more refined and enjoyable than I remember from previous experiences. They mainly consisted of cedar and dry grass, but they were smooth and relaxing. Combined with the construction, this was a great cigar. If only they were like this right from the shop!

"Love the length/flavor ratio"
First, I am NOT a Fuente shill... I AM a Padron guy. I wanted to check out a short cigar, a unique shape, and different brand. So this baby fit the bill all at once. I wanted something quick and flavorful, as this is a colder spring in NY, and I had heard my local guy talk about these before, that he couldn't keep them on the shelf. so I tried it. First cool shape, uneven bumpyish wrapper, pre light was a little uneven, but worked itself out fine. Great flavor right off the bat, as needs to be for such a short cigar. Took about 25 mins to smoke. Burned great and released a nice amount of smoke and delivered a great flavor on the palate, with a sense of pleasant cigar-sweetness on the lips. Thouroughly enjoyed the flavor. Even though I drop coin for my cigars, I thought the price tag for such a small smoke should be A LOT cheaper. I will definitely buy more, try to get them cheaper... Great for the quick fix.

I'm a little surprised by the negative reviews -- while the Short Story is somewhat overrated, like the other Hemingways it's a damn fine Cameroon. Excellent construction, full flavored without being overbearing. But if you don't like cameroon, for cripes' sake smoke something else! This is among the best cameroon petites available anywhere. "A classic"
I've been smoking cigars for about two years and I am just finally getting around to trying this cigar. I bought two at a local shop to try 'em out. The first thing I noticed is that they seemed small and fragile, and look quite veiny, the only attractive thing about the appearence was the perfecto shape. I clipped the end and light it up, the first thing I notice was that it burnt pretty cool for the small size. I struggled with the taste it seemed like I had tasted that before but milder. Then it hit me this cigar taste like a mild version of a Maria Guerro. The peppery smooth taste with a hint of sweetnes from the cameroon. I love Maria Guerreros, and this milder version just didn't satisfy me, plus the shorty story is just too short. I have to say that this cigar is way over rated, buy maria guerreros instead, better burn, better taste and better value. These are over rated. Don't get fooled into paying for the name.

"Not impressed"
I'll first use a disclaimer: I'm a newer smoker and I tend towards milder flavor cigars: Excalibur No I, Rocky Edge Lite, etc. So take my review with a grain of salt. However, I am always branching out I try new cigars weekly. Yesterday was the Short Story. First impression: construction was average. Little bits of unravelling wrapper near the head. Squeezing it, I found the stick to be very firm - almost rock hard. The smell was surprisingly bad - it reminded me of fertilizer. Pre-light draw was a medium. The "nipple" on the foot was a new thing for me but I liked it - it made lighting very easy. The light was quick and the burn was mostly even with little maintenance. The draw after light was medium-hard and it was difficult to get a full seal around the head because unravelling wrapper. The taste... stronger than I prefer however it was not overwhelming. I didn't detect any flavor note that I enjoyed, however that is a personal preference sort of thing. The body of the smoke was pretty good - I got a satisfying amount of smoke on each draw. I felt this was a stick that shouldn't be smoked too quickly - it seemed to get really hot after short puffs. When I slowed down, I was surprised at how long the little guy lasted - at least 45 minutes. Overall, not my kind of smoke - the flavor wasn't appealing and the smell was downright aweful - but I'm glad I tried it.

"great cigar"
After reading quite a bit about the Fuente Hemmingway cigars, so I decided to pick one up at a local store. I thought the cigar looked very good- love the nipple end. Nice dark brown wrapper, a fairly noticeable vein in the binder, and intresting large to smaller ring gauge- very nice looking cigar.

The pre-light was fairly uneventful; no uncharacteristic or unexpected smells or tastes through the cigar. I was a bit shocked at the sweetness of the wrapper- not unpleasant, just not expected.

The cigar had a deep, mellow taste - characteristic coffee and dark wood notes, and a deep, very faint caramel sweetness. I enjoyed this smoke a lot. The spice increased ever so slightly about 1/2" into the cigar.

This little cigar had a high volume of tasty smoke. The draw was a bit tight, but not unsmokable by any means. The next one I smoke, because I am certain tio smoke more, I will cut with a larger opening to get a better draw.

All in all, a tasty, brief smoke. Well worth the $4.50 or so I paid for the cigar.

"Poweful little guy"
Don't let the size fool you, as you can get close to an hour on this one. Great construction, and no pre-light aroma. Started to burn unevenly at first, but it self-correwcted without me needing to intervene with the lighter. This guy packs the nicotine and actually gave me a little buzz. A little harsh at first; very spicy, that gave way to a smoother flavor of leather and a tinge of nutmeg. This one has significant body and character, but I think the flavor isn't as good on these as it was a couple of years ago. But, you could do a lot worse with a cigar than this.

This cigar has the oddest shape the is so well know it's now a classic. What a fine smoke it is too. Outstanding AF construction and a perfect burn and ash. Great flavors of creamy rich vanilla, spice, with hints of nutmeg and cinimon and even some cocoa in there, Very comlex smoke and very satifying to boot. This is a classic smoke.

"Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story"
A.Fuente Hemingway Short Story, This little Cameroon wrapped perfecto, is a beauty to behold. A nice oily gleam catches my eye, as I peruse the wrapper looking for imperfections. And of course, there are none. I snipped the cap, with my cheap double bladed cutter, and UhOh Houston, we have a problem, a slightly ragged cut. Oh Well, Time for another cheap cutter, this one lasted me two years, pretty good for $2.50.

Anyway, back to the cigar. Prelight aroma, is almost non-exisistant. I toasted the foot, with my cheap triple torch, going on 6 months, better than all 3 of my Colibre lighters. The first couple of puffs are a tad tight, as usual with a perfecto tip. A very rich creamy smoke, explodes upon my palate, with a nice zip of spice from the cameroon wrapper. The Perfecto tip of a Hemingway always is a great spicy rich hint of great things to come. The burn, is just a kittle crooked at the start, probably due to carelessness on my part The flavors are of rich vanilla, with light notes of cinimon and nutmeg. The Burn selfcorrected by the end of the perfecto tip, and this medium bodied gem really began to shine, with notes of cocoa, nuts, leather, and coffee.

As it gets down to the nub, this wonderful cigar finishes with a burst of pepper. A very complex smoke, with constantly changing rich flavors. The ash held, for the entire duration of this smoke, about 40 minutes of heaven on earth.

The Short story Hemi. Has got to be one of my favorite smokes, partially because it was the first smoke, to make me say Ahhhhhh and take notice of the flavors. My only problem with this smoke, is that it is way too short, but the bigger natural Hemi’s just don’t compare to this spicy, rich, and complex smoke. I give this cigar a 4.3, for a superior flavor and excelant construction.

"Great"
This is a great cigar. It is certainly AF's best that I've tried (haven't tried Opus X yet though). It has a lot more flavor than the regular line. Has a fairly woody, medium-bodied spicy/sugary taste with cinnamon. Flavor is pretty complex. Lasts a while before it fades. I've tried about 100 brands of cigars, and this line is one of my favorites, could be possibly be my favorite. Just make sure you get a fresh one--I've had some that weren't and they were bad. Try to buy one in a store and get a smell of it first, it should have a rather strong boquet to it.
Burn/construction are good. Considering the low price of these, it is probably one of the best deals out there. Too bad it's hard to find them.

"I prefer a longer story"
I received this stick from a fellow BOFTL. He claimed that it was the best that he had smoked. Normally I prefer longer cigars, so I put this one in the humidor for a little rest. Today I decided to give it a try and now I wish I had let is rest for awhile longer. The construction was excellent, as the burn was perfect and the draw was very smooth. Unfortunately the flavor was a little less than I am used to. There was a little spice mixed with a little pepper. I seemed to taste a little leather as well. Everything I tasted was little, I guess that has to do with being a short story. This stick was short on everything. I will continue to smoke my normal length cigars.

"long ashes to you"
I've almost smoked these puppies all the way to the nub without any ash drop. Amazing construction, and you have to love the perfecto shape. It burns longer than one might anticipate for its short size (30-40 mintues). Mild pepper, leather, and nuts. Slow down & enjoy. Moderate finish. I think these cigars make a great gift (beautiful presentation and something that you might not buy for yourself at $5.50 a pop). They're the perfect cigar for a party where the guys can go outside for a collegial smoking treat without begin gone for so long that the wives get upset. Be sure to get a box while you can since supplies of these are usually limited (no more than $110/box).

"nice"
You know, this is a nice smoke-really nice actually, but, having had other "short" fuentes like the F. F. OpusX No. 5 and the Anejo #50, I refuse to say that this cigar is "first-tier" fuente. The cigar is creamy, smooth, nutty, it has a great construction, and if treated correctly it won't bite or get "eggy". This is an excellent every-day smoke, but by no means first-tier.

"Short Story, not short on enjoyment..."
Perhaps one of the best sticks available to the average consumer. A mild flavor with medium smoke, wonderful draw and impeccable construction. The flavor continues consistently through the length of the cigar. The diameter of this delight is perfect for a punch style cutter which gives the perfect draw. This goes well with a nice domestic specialty beer like Flat Tire which has spices that compliment the mildly sweet smoke. I can’t say enough good about this awesome cigar to do it justice.

"Spicy introduction to the Hemingway line"
This is one of the most heavily reviewed cigars on this site, and I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. It's a dainty little perfecto with a nicely-rolled, toothy, and slightly oily wrapper. While it has a nice draw, it burns somewhat unevenly and a little hot. Medium to full in body, it's rather spicy with accompanying woody and nutty flavors. A spicy finish with a cigar buzz at the end not proportional to the small size. Compare with the Don Tomas Cameroon Perfecto No. 1, a cigar with an identical shape that performs better but is not as flavorful as this Hemingway.

While its obvious this is a high quality cigar as far as construction and ash go it didn't have the "wow" factor that many seem to get from it. It was semi-enjoyable and had excellent ash. The ash grew to over 1.5 inches before I finally tapped part of it off. Had great draw (almost too easy at times). "Short story"
This was a nice little cigar, perfectly rolled and constructed. It burned perfectly, with a dense, dark ash. The first taste was light and airy, but soon I discovered why Mr. Fuente named it “short story”. Once the burn reached the thickest part of the cigar, the body and flavor opened up, and revealed a complex mix of anise, clove, and spice, which mellowed into leather and cedar by the finish. This was an enjoyable smoke, and perfect if you only have 20 minutes between engagements. Definitely recommended.

Not harsh or bitter, but very mature and mellow. Excellent aftertaste. Lasted 30-40 minutes, and loved every minute of it! Had a LaP Perfecto #3 Cameroon this a.m. while walking the dog (a similar "short smoke"), and this blew the socks off of that one! I would highly recommend this one, and my ratings/recommendations are very tough. Tried to buy a box but my local wouldn't part with one of the two he had. If I can get my hands on more, will definitely make it into my daily rotation.

"A very nice Fuente"
Although I typically do not like the milder cigars in the rest of the Fuente line, this is a very nice short smoke. The start was slightly harsh and oaky but once past the narrow foot it evened out really well and turned medium-bodied, smooth, oaky and earthy. A definite fingerburner, with no bitterness at all. At $5.20 I'd rather have a RyJ Anniversary Robusto, but this is definitely a good cigar.

"My Little Winter Friend"
It's cold outside. Giving the wife 1/2 means I starve. Soo it's the time of year for short smokes or long drives. Had a couple of these in humi and smoked one at lunch today. It's like hooking up with an old girlfriend who takes care of herself... pleasant and familiar. These are nice smooth expertly made cigars which don't disappoint in the flavor department consistently over time. As small as they are it was still good for a nice 1/2 hour smoke. One of those cigars that everyone should smoke at least once.

"Perfect for busy people"
I really think the time for a cigar is when you can sit down undistracted and enjoy. If you dont have a lot of time this is the best small cigar I have tried. It lights with one match and burns evenly dropping only one or two ashes in 30 to 45 minutes, makes for a good walking around cigar. Good taste and not too expensive, just a bit hard to buy off the shelf sometimes.

I tend to shy away from perfectos as you never know how they are going to burn. This one did fine though, with a nice medium bodied flavor & an easy draw. "Good......"
I had to try one of these, I like short smokes and I have a couple of Hemingway Signatures that I enjoyed a lot. Pretty little thing, nice toothy wrapper, the right size for a lunch break or commute smoke. I sparked it up and it started burning pretty well, not perfect but those small nibs don't always get the main part of the cigar started evenly. I liked this one, it was stronger than I expected, nice smoke, a touch of bitterness early in the cigar was removed with a purge, although it seemed crazy to purge a cigar this small. Nice aroma, sweet, nutty cameroon taste. I had a Torano Signature preferido yesterday for the first time and immediately got online to buy more. Although I liked the SS, I won't rush out to buy a box. I think these will age into something truly special though.

I think the first good cigar I ever smoked was a short story. Still a great treat, and despite the name, I think I smoked it for nearly an hour. I was looking for a small stogie to stock with my other boxes, and being a Classic fan, I decided to check these little guys out. Ended up buying a box.

Wrappers dark, veiny, and a little lumpy, but sweet and rich-tasting. Sometimes a little too sweet. Draw excellent; smoke abundant. A nice, rich smoke. A little sweet, very smooth. Not all that complex, unfortunately. Virtually no bitterness; you'll put it down when it starts to burn your fingers.

Very much like the Classic, except perhaps richer, but it only lasts forty-five minutes. A very good little cigar.

"Too short"
It is a very nice looking little fella, boxed in a very nice looking box. The wrapper is a little bit oily, toothy, okay cap construction, and the cigar is nice, firm, and solid. It is easy to clip the cigar, and very easy to light it. Draw is very smooth after a couple of puffs. The ash is grayish, a little bit firm, and a little bit flaky. This cigar has a strong earthy taste, and just a little spicy. A light hint of minty taste, and I get the ¡§refreshing¡¨ feeling when I smoke this cigar. It has a complex flavor, and it is one of the best cigars I¡¦ve smoked last year. It remained as my all-time favorite. I gave 3 to my friend, but he told me the 3 he picked, 2 were really crappy ¡V bitter, soft spots all over the cigar, and he complained a lot, but he liked the one that was not defected, as he put it. I don¡¦t know, because he picked out one of my Avo cigars, and he said it was bad, so I guess he has the ability to pick out bad cigars, subconsciously, I think. It is a mild-medium bodied cigar, great smoke volume, and it never burns hot. The cigar tastes consistent throughout, becomes a little bit stronger when it burns to the band. I always smoke until my fingernails cannot hold it, and crave for more when I finish one. Great smoke if you only have half an hour of lunch time. A little bit expensive for this little guy though.

Short on flavor complexity, draw, and body but not on bitterness or price. Truly a short but sad story. (79)

Good things do come in small packages! This cigar was loaded with rich and complex tastes from the moment I lit it up. It was beautiful in contruction and burned very well. It's unique size is reason enough to try this out. I will smoke this one again.

Complex cigar for such a small smoke. There is a lot of hype with this cigar, but it is a good smoke and worth paying up to $5.00 each (in California)

Hearty and full bodied. Strong tobacco flavors whose harsh edge mellows as you smoke. Too little too late. By the time you really start to enjoy this interesting little cigar, your finished.
