"flawless!"
Just a gorgeous, tasty, consistent and reasonably priced cigar. Definitely one of my favorites. I like these even better than the vintage, which are also good. Every one i've ever gotten has burned perfectly, looks beautiful, and blows you away with flavor. I love torpedos where you can just snip a tiny bit off the tip and have it pull perfectly, and this one never dissapoints. If you don't thoroughly enjoy this one you're either REALLY unlucky (i.e. got a dud) or your taste in cigars is WAY different from mine. But i doubt that'll be the case--top notch cigar at a mid-level price.

"Not my favorite RP"
...or favorite maduro. Too harsh--kinda "hit you in the face" harsh. The flavors were overpowering, did not blend well: tobacco, spice, leather & bitter chocolate. Full bodied, definitely full strength. These are nice looking & well-built cigars, but not for me. I'll stick with the Edge Corojo.

"Pretty good"
This cigar was about two years old. It was certaily more mellow that the ones I've had right from the shop, but in gaining some refinment it lost some of the character that I have liked about these in the past. I have one more that was purchased at the same time this one was. I'll give it a couple more years and report back.

"Extremely dissapointed"
I've had two of these cigars. The first one I had during a Rocky Patel "meet and greet" and our local cigar shop. I was truly amazed! Tons of flavor with a medium to Full taste. I also tried the sungrown that day and walked away with a new love for "The Edge." Recently, I went back and bought a few for my friend and I. I praised the taste and flavor before we had them. For some reason, they were horrible. It was extremely bitter and harsh all the way through with too tight of a draw. Nothing like the first one I had. Maybe it was a bad batch, but beware!

Started out tasty but then turned bitter. Can't complain about the draw, burn, or construction. Good cigar.

"What is all the hype?"
I've heard several friends of mine boasting as to the awesome taste of this stick. Well I finally was handed one today and here is my 2 cents. Stick looked nice, dark veiny wrapper, pre light aroma was mediocre. Once lit, I was unimpressed, tasted somewhat harsh and unfinished, but I kept going with it, hoping for a change. It finally came in the last 1/3, tastes of mild coffee of some strange flavor I could not put my finger on until i read the last post, the flavor was Anise-like. Burn was fine, draw a little tight, overall not a bad stick, but hardly worth the hoop la my buddies have been making. The price is right though, worth a try.

"Smoke this one for a buzz."
I can't add much more than what's been posted already. This is a pretty string stick with very good construction, and a nice dark chocolate / anise kind of flavor. Surprisingly, it doesn't have a long finish. The draw is just about perfect, the burn is excellent.
I love the looks of these things: glossy, oily, and slightly bumpy. They have a very noble rustic appeal.
I was buzzed about 10 seconds into smoking this cigar. Despite this, it was an excellent all-around smoke. I recommend you eat before lighting this one up.
Highly recommend.

"Edge"
I'm smoking a Rocky Patel Edge Square Torpedo Maduro as I write this. It's an unbanded cigar. They come in a rough hewn dark wood box. The story given my tobacco shop owner is that they were made for a show and the palets were stuck in a corner for 3 years. And they were just discovered. I paid $5. It's a strong cigar, but well balanced, not harsh. The flavors come from the instant you light it lots of leather surrounded by some spice. It's well built. Long before the first round of ash falls free (at a little over 1") the spice fades. I had to touch it up once by the half way point.
On the 2nd half it started to seem like a one dimensional smoke to me. Just more of the same. Not much of a finish. Became kind of a straight tobacco flavor. The ash continued to hold tight, light gray with some dark gray bands.
Starting the home turn the cigar actually surprised me. About the time I was starting to think, "am I going to smoke this to the nub" it became noticably lighter (which was a pleasant change). I don't have the most refined palet, but it seemed to have some cedar and a touch of floral note. I touched it up again.
There's plenty of nicotine kick in this puppy. You start to notice its effect near the end. I caught some more floral. Again, the finish is short. Construction was good and consistent throughout. It never got hot or bitter (which surprised me). It's a pretty interesting smoke. It's a bit strong to be a daily smoke for me, personally. Once you get to the 2nd half it doesn't naturally make you pay attention to it, you have to try a little bit to stay interested, but it's worth the effort.
I would rate this a solid 7.5 out of 10 on flavor, consistency and construction, 9 for value at $5. If you like a bold smoke and you come across them I would recommend them.

"Excellent Affordable Maduro"
I've really begun to love these Edge Maduros. Burns well, definitely an earthy strong smoke with plenty of nicotine. I wouldn't suggest this to the faint of heart. There have been a few occasions that by the time I got to the end I was buzzing so hard I broke out in a sweat. Now thats a good cigar!
I prefer the Torpedo over the Toro, but considering the price & quality of smoke, I'd say these blow many more expensive Maduros out of the water!

"Hidden jewell"
For a long time it was sold unlabeled in plastic bags at my store. A real gem that was usually passed over by many customers. Not the case now, as it is sold with a small, discreet label, and becoming very popular. I always have some in my humidor along side the "premium" status brands.

"Average smoke"
I grabbed this out of my humi as I was attracted to the smooth wrapper and way it smelled. It clipped and lit easily. Taste was not as complex as I hoped for. Not creamy nor earthy, but mostly leathery, strong expresso in a unidimensional way all the way down. Average in the taste department.

"Damn Impressive"
What an absolutely excellent cigar this was. My only complaint is that the smoke itself is a little harsh and it takes one a short while to begin to actually experience the rich flavors this cigar boasts. But once that happens, this is another delicious Rocky Patel experiment. It is earthy with a subtle and delightful blend of cocoa and vanilla. It's definitely a joy to partake in.

If cigars were food, this would be meat and potatoes. The price was good. The draw was very tight. Ash was white/grey. Burn was semi-consistant. Flavor was very musky. I don't know, I might try one again. It didn't impress me a ton..

"just as i remembered it"
I reviewed the toro maduro some time ago, and the torpedo was just as good. Dark, oily, burned like a dream. Strong, smokey, but smooth. Can't say enough good things about The Edge. Very hard to beat in my book.
For what it's worth, RP started putting bands on these. A simple manilla-colored band on the 'foot' of the cigar. Doesn't make a difference to me either way, but there it is for the 'quality' skeptics. *shrug*

I enjoy Maduro smokes and this is now one of my favorite regulars. What caught my eye was it looked nice and oily. Another reviewer stated he never smokes an unbanded cigar, I have never had a bad RP Smoke, don't let the rough looking box and looks scare you.
The Edge is a nice strong full bodied smoke and I would compare it to an Oliva O or G Maduro just a few bucks cheaper.

"The edge of boring."
Well constructed, nice looking, great draw, and a very pleasant start. It just didn't go anywhere from there. It had sort of a dark-mocha flavor with hints of spice and leather, but seemed flat and it didn't change. After the first 30 minutes I really wanted it to either do something else, or end. Finally, with a few short inches to go I got a hint of some real flavor, right before it turned sour, and I had to put it down. For the price, however, I can't be upset.

"Strange..."
The other two maduro sizes have been very good, but this one is just weird. Maybe it's a bad box at my local store, but it has a very "unusual" maduro flavor. These also seem to need a bunch of purging and tend to run hot and a bit gritty. Not impressed.

"Nice date, but not marriage material"
This cigar is a good, honest smoke for the money. It is attractive and well made, but draws inconsistently on occasion. It displays nice, honest upper-middle to full flavors, white ash and good smoke. There are many nice flavors (the blend is good) however it is one-dimensional and lacks mid palette depth and complexity. By no means is this stick in the league of a properly stored Padron Anniversario, OpusX, Don Carlos or CAO MX2. These cigars consistently reward with a very complete, integrated smoking experience (attack, mid palate and long finish) that the Edge simply cannot match. It might improve with some time in the box, but no amount of time will correct an inconsistent draw. The Edge pairs exceptionally well with Mirassou's 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (served at 56 degrees) and Santa Teresa's Rhum Orange Liqueur (aged rum). It is ideal to keep on hand for poker night, or to give to aspiring aficionados who like a good smoke. They'll be impressed and you'll save money while keeping your real gems for more seasoned visitors.

"Great everyday smoke..."
I've been trying a lot of smokes lately, trying to figure out what I like. These are currently my favorite "every day" smoke. They're pretty full bodied and very flavorful, reminding me of a good espresso with hearty cedar and earthy tobacco flavors.
The sticks themselves have a solid construction, good torpedo tip, and a dark, almost black wrapper with a decent shine. They don't smell great when unlit and don't smell all that great when they are lit... but the taste fantastic and that's what matters most!
The best part of this smoke is how long the flavor lasts. I can have one at 11 in the morning and still taste it come dinner time.
The only downsides I have encountered are an inconsistent burn, requiring regular attention to keep it going, as well as encountering a couple sticks that changed flavor about halfway through. Hopefully the bad sticks are some rare exceptions.
Overall, this is a robust, hearty smoke for a more experienced smoker. If you dig maduros, try this one.

"Hearty"
Whiff of ammonia on the wrapper. Fired it up anyway. Solid construction; there's nothing soft about these in any respect. Burns well, though a little uneven. Spicy at first and a bit rough throughout-- not for tender palates. Lots of hearty smoke, above which rides some sweetness and a hint of cedar. Not much complexity here, but I'd like to see if a year in hibernation tames the beast in these. I'm sensing potential.

OK. I reviewed this cigar back in June of 05. Wasn't good. Too many good reviews to ignore so I tried it again. I am pleased to say that the over the top strength and outright harshness of the June smoke were not present here. Full bodied yes-- but done well. This stick was firmer than I remembered. "Fan-damn-tastic."
First off...what a great site guys. This particular cigar was right under my nose in my local cigar pub here in the Atlanta suburbs of Mableton. It was one of the last few in a 100 case which had suprisingly few damaged in the botom. It felt really tight and afer squeezing on a few I decided all of them were relatively tight so I grabbed one and fired her up. The cigar drew REALLY well and that's aces in my book for a cigar that was really hard. The flavor richened (newbie) after about a half inch had burn and gathered momentum like a runaway freight train. If you like a strong(in my experience) cigar this one is dandy!

"Very Very Nice!"
Wow. This cigar was great. I got it at the same time as the corojo version, and this was definitely the better of the two. I wasn't a fan of the corojo at all, so I didn't have high expectations for this one. The cigar was well rolled, and had a great appearance and feel. It's unfortunate they aren't ringed, but that helps keep the price down. The cigar lit easily, and burned very evenly. The flavor was a cross between wood and unsweetend or dark chocolate. Very smooth, I was sad to see it go out. I smoked it to about 1" left, and the draw was consistent throughout. I will definitely be getting more of these to put in the humidor, as you can't beat the price or quality. WAY TO GO ROCKY!
