One of the best in my recent tests. My results are very different
than the score at this site. Perhaps they have changed something
or it is very inconsistent in quality, but mine was very good.

Very well constructed, nice draw, volumes of smoke and even burn. Flavor at start leaves a bit to be desired, but develops nicely.

"Good Smoke"
Slow start with a bit of an uneven burn, great middle, mellow and mild. Slight bitter toward the end, but maybe it was my eagerness to repeat the middle performance and I let it get hot. Price point a little high for me, but great weekend smoke.

"Not the best hour..."
I paid a visit to my local tobacconist approximately five weeks ago and picked one of these out (amongst a few other cigars in the $5 to $7 range) because a dear friend had highly recommended them. Stashed away in one of my humidors, I decided that tonight would be the night to experience something new. I must say that I was a bit disappointed this evening as I puffed away for an hour desperately trying to figure out why the recommendation was made. The construction of the cigar was good, stayed evenly lit throughout, and produced an ash that held up to three inches. However, I puffed away in great disappointment until the cigar was too hot to smoke and the hope of discovering any flavor had vanished with the clouds of smoke. My saving grace for the evening was the company of a 3-ounce splash of Remy Martin and the outlook (an hour's worth) of smoking something a little bit more worthwhile before the new work week begins. I'm always willing to accommodate a lackluster experience with the opportunity for redemption, but that experience is going to have to take a backseat for a very long time. Life is too short to spare a moment for dissatisfaction.

"This is a Romeo?"
Don't think I ever smoked a bad Romeo in my life - until now. Mike's had a special, 60 bucks for a box. Who can pass that up? Well, these must've been in the bargain bin for a reason. Construct, burn, ash were all perfect but the flavor was off. I let them sit for awhile in my 'dor, but they still have this bitter nastiness to them. I suspect weather alone can produce huge variations in flavor let alone a thousand other variables affecting the whole process.

"A decent all around smoke"
This cigar was a decent smoke. Had a really good draw, but a slightly uneven burn. The earth and leather flavors were well balanced with hints of wood and nuts. The wrapper was veiny, possibly causing the uneven burn.

"better with age"
Smoked one with 1 year good down time. Still not the best cigar but better than when young. A long slightly bitter finish follows nice cedar and toast flavors. Early the cigar is quite spicy but that fades. Construction is excellent but I chucked cigar at 3+ inches left, so not a great value.

Not the greatest cigar in the world...It was constructed well but didn't have a lot of taste. I did smoke it with a Monte #2 and the Bully was better. Probably will not buy another.

"Grade: B-"
Honestly this cigar surprised me. I expected to HATE it after smoking a Churchill but I actually enjoyed it. It wasn't great nor was it terrible. Its a fairly straightforward mild cigar which isn't my favorite but my girl really likes them. The construction is good with a reasonably even burn. To make a long story short, I no longer cringe at the thought of a RJ 1875 because of the Bully! That said this isn't the kind of cigar that I look forward to for the entire week. Its more of a sure, got a few minutes, wouldn't mind a cigar smoke.

"Let me down"
I smoked this stick on a warm spring evening and ended up disappointed. After sitting in the humidor for a month or so I pulled this fat stick out. Construction was great, very smooth wrapper, thin veins. Upon lighting I found tasted cedar initially. After a few minutes the taste changed to a honey or liqourice taste, a nice little sweet taste overlaying the cedar notes. Halfway through this cigar went out and had to be relit. After relighting the taste had turned to bitter tar and a dusty, ashy taste. Needless to say, I put this guy out at that point. Overall, the taste was a little sweet in my opinion, and a little one dimensional. Poor construction with the filler is the reason this stick went out (and the reason why the second half was ruined). I might try another one of these sometime, but not in the near future.

Had not liked many of the RMJ cigars in the past. Even the Cuban did not go over very good with me. But this one was a joy to smoke. Did not change until half way . Light and mold in the first half. Last half got a little bolder. Spice got a bit stronger and some cedar notes were present.Overall a great smoke. Also the burn on this baby was flawless!!!

"Good one"
all in all a very good smoke. if you don't get them packed too tightly. i've had a jr 5-pck and a box of em packed too tightly... not plugged... but a very firm draw... so firm that the experience was ruined. so i returned the box for a new one that wasnt. which was very kind of jr. the new box was full of exceptionally rolled perfect draw-ers. its pry hit or miss with it. and for their price tag they shouldnt be.. really... no cigar 5 cents to 5 million cents should have that difficulty of draw. but anyway, the java wrapper makes this a very smooth and exceptionally tasty gar. on the milder side of medium with creamy coffee flavors. recommended for those who prefer a very firm draw, and those willing to gamble on the construction quality.

"Nothing amazing."
Good appearance, but a much too tight draw. The burn was even which was a plus. The flavor was medium bodied with a cedary/sweet undertone that fell behind a spicy veneer. Definitely a unique taste on this, and I think it is a real love/hate flavor. Not bad, but not deserving of the 90+ cigar rating that CA gave it a few months back.

"Everyday Cigar"
I’ve burned up a few of these Bullys now, and I just can’t get too excited about them. All three were purchased separately and spent varying amounts of time in the humidor and were smoked in disparate settings. This last one yesterday in the side yard under the Chicken Hill with a beer was the best. The cigar is near flawless in appearance, round, solid. The construction was OK; fantastic cap that held together wonderfully, but it burned a bit off; had to flame a canoe back into submission a couple of times. The flavor was a nudge above average in my book. I nubbed it though. The other two times I smoked the Bully have slipped from memory as will this last one eventually. I guess that’s the very definition of an “everyday cigar.”

"RYJ!"
Cuban or not, this brand never fails to please in every vitole. This review is based on a single sample...very intriguing prelight effects, the aroma had milk chocolate with citrus notes with flavor to match...once lit, it was very mild and slightly sweet, remained like that until halfway where (some people thinking that this was a mild light-bodied stick) might be turned off, not me....this is where it became most appealing for me, went from light and creamy to medium-bodied (in the grand scale of things, some might call it med-full) with pronounced cedar and sweet-spice notes. I was happy with the experience and even happier that it only costed $5. Could easily become anyones everyday-morning or early afternoon smoke, which is when I smoked it....the finnish was good, slightly different flavors from the 2cnd phase...although I would recommend letting them sleep for about a year and a half, then it would really be something....If I do end up getting a box, I'd age in a non-cedar humidor-what I do like about this stick is the character, the multiple phase flavors, but since the power isn't enough to satisfy my tastes for a medium bodied cigar, I'd prefer it a bit lighter to satisfy those rare lighter cravings in the morning. This particular stick was perfectly round, great bunch with a draw that was just right slightly oily and thin-but strong indonesian wrapper, minimal veins, spongey, but full in the hand....Cheers.

If you're looking for a good everyday cigar at an affordable price, here it is. Great smoke for the dollar. I love these. I've smoked over a couple hundred of these and have had very few with any problems. They start out kinda mild with a nice fresh flavor and usually finish with a strong spicy long finish on the tongue. I love them. I'm not so good on describing flavors, but I know what taste good to me, & these I like.

"Not as advertised"
I picked one of the little bully's up at a local shop on the recommedation of a frined and I wasn't impressed. It started slow, very tight draw (maybe plugged), had to relight 3-4 times which destroyed any flavor there was which wasn't much. Mine was bitter from the start, didn't get halfway finished before I put it and myself out of our misery. Not what was expected from the R&J line. Maybe a bad single? We'll try again someday....maybe

"Nothing to write home about"
Much in the tradition of dominican Romeos this was a fairly straightforward cigar bordering on being bland. Not the cigar to wow you with a bouquet of flavors but they get the job done and are pretty consistent whenever you get around to smoke them. Havent had the construction problems the other guys have had and the burn has been fairly uniform. All in all not a bad cigar but I would take the La Aurora robusto over it any day of the week for the same or less money.

"A decent cigar; don't smoke with spirits"
With nice oils on a smooth and toothy wrapper, this is a good-looking cigar. The draw is slightly firm, but it burns consistently and mostly even and forms a solid ash. It has a straightforward toasty and woody flavor with a buttery sweet finish. Of the two I smoked one did have the wrapper start to unravel towards the end but i had it in a suitcase for a few days so i might have damaged it myself. Also agree that it's overpowered by stronger beverages; had one with a beer and could barely taste the cigar. Just a decent smoke overall.

"Great mild cigar"
Great mild cigar. I get mine from Cigarsx10 and the construction is perfect. Densely packed but with an easy draw. Burned straight start to finish. The flavor doesn't have great depth and they don't hold their own with strong beverages. But these are great on a hot day with a nice lager or wheat beer.

"Beware of construction"
I got this cigar as part of an 8-robusto sampler from JR (4 Bolivar, 4 RyJ). The construction on every single one was terrible. Cracks in the wrapper above the band, and caps that hung on by a thread. So, this cigar would have had to wow me if I was ever going to buy one again -- and it did not. Naturally, the thing fell apart an inch from the band, and I didn't enjoy the flavor at all. It burned hot and uneven, but that could have also been because I was at the beach... Definitely inspect the exterior closely before buying, and stay away from samplers!

...but the taste is pretty bland. This cigar had that cool greenish-brown wrapper that lots of premiums have. I was impressed by the construction as this little hog burned extremely well. Overall, it burned a little hot though. Not bad per say, but not nearly as good as the churchills that I do so enjoy in this line. I have to say, this cigar defines the word average.

"4 bucks for average"
I think this cigar is 4 bucks cause of the name. This cigar I got from my smoke shop was a little dry, however it felt & looked good in the shop, but a month in the humidor fixed it sorta. it is an okay stick. it burned even, and lit well. this was mild but I tasted at points a stronger cigar yearning to break free, with very light hints of earthiness and cedar or spice. A decent cigar worth a try but nothing more.

"A bore in wolf's clothing"
This is an average cigar. The construction is very nice, very even, with smooth wrappers and solid craftsmanship. But light it up and it just tastes like a cigar...nothing more, nothing less. I have smoked a dozen of these and just finished the last one during a stroll with the dogs in the woods. A consistently inoffensive but uneventful smoke. I think the issue is that there is not a drop of sweetness to this cigar. Without some sweetness in the flavor, it is difficult to develop more complex flavors. All you're really left with is earthy tobacco.
To be fair, there are times when the flavor of this cigar is more satisfying than others. I just can't tell in advance when that is going to be. It is relatively smooth, with a modicum of spice, a good volume of smoke, and a very well behaved cigar in terms of burn, coolness, and how the last third performs. But it just never really comes into its own and announces any sort of personality.

Having smoked about a half dozen of these, I think I'm going to throw in the towel and move on to different pastures. It's a fine smoke; the construction and burn has been excellent throughout. I just can't get on with the taste too well, which is strange because I generally like smooth cigars with not much pepper/spice yet still with some complexity. This cigar has all that with a medium strength, but the flavor just doesn't do it for me. They always start off well, but after an inch or so I start hoping it will burn faster.

"A Testimony to Aging"
I was all set to write a scathing review of the R&J Bully, then I thought I should try just one more. My in-laws gifted me with a box of Bullys for Christmas 2000. Unfortunately, every time I smoked one, it just wasn't a very pleasant experience, even after months in the humidor. So I buried them deep in the humi, and gave many away to friends. After not smoking any for about 14 months, I tried one last night--what a difference! It started out intensely spicy and peppery, just like I was smoking a jalapeno. It wasn't unpleasant, so I continued, and it settled down a bit but stayed deliciously spicy. It didn't ash until halfway, and at that point traces of coffee were mixing into the smoke. It was a good smoke, and I wish now I had saved more; only a couple are left. But I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy them, given how poor they started out and how long they stayed bad, even with aging. There are just too many other good cigars on the market that are fine for smoking right after purchase. My lower scores average out the few good smokes against the many bad ones.

I have always loved Romeo y Julieta's and this one is no exception. Its a perfect smoke for me on the way to the office in the morning and I always have about 15-20 minuets left on the cigar when I get there so it gives me an excuse to not go in so early. I agree with most of the previous reviews in that the cigar is great the first third and then it gets a little harsh during the middle and then it just becomes a little too harsh at the end. I found that if I blew out the smoke thats just sitting in the cigar about every 5-6 puffs it gives the cigar a more consistant taste through and through. The taste is great though and the burn is always consistant.

"Unusual and changable"
Decent construction. Firm. Very short cap. First third had a mellowness that encouraged large mouthfulls. A very aromatic flavour with an odd taste of flowers on the exhale. Very peppery.
Second smokable third became rather harsh and slightly tiresome. Acidic and seemed to make me slow down on the big gulps.
Last smokable third improved again and became strong flavoured and mouth numbing, either lessening in the acidity through smaller puffs or changing altogether - The floral flavour lasted to the end. Can't say I've come across that before.
Ash hung on for over 2 inches. multi coloured and medium firmness. Bit of a thinker this one...Left me wondering if I'd enjoyed it or not. It kept changing.
Seemed to seep oils about a fifth of an inch from the charing wrapper. The inch under that had become remarkably soft and spongy. Much more so than usual. High tar? I think I'd like to try another. Very unusual.
