Good looking cigar, eh? You can't help but fall in love when you first look at the Davidoff Millennium No. 2. A perfectly rolled perfecto with the milky white band stamped Davidoff in gold. Davidoff released a limited edition line of three perfecto's, all made by Hendrik Kelner in the Dominican Republic. Hendrik, you 'de man. These cigars are gorgeous. Davidoff's specially aged wrappers are dark, rich and oily. These cigars look ready to age, if you can hold back smoking them. Enough about the looks, what did they taste like? Not like the usual Davidoff, at least not like the other Davidoff's we've had. Truth be told, we haven't had many Davidoff's that justified the premium price they ask. But more about price later. Spicy, deep, rich, dark, smoky...all terms used by our reviewers to describe this cigar. It was all that, and more. The rich taste stayed throughout the cigar, reminding some of our more privileged reviewers of past Opus X, and Ashton VSG they had smoked. Having experienced both of the aforementioned cigars, I can see the comparison. There was no aftertaste, none. The flavor was such that you may want it, but no aftertaste here. Noted by some though, was a slight bit, not much, but a touch of ammonia as you got near the end of these cigars. Trust me, these cigars were smoked 'till the end. The construction was one of the most apparent quality aspects of this smoke. Perfect draw throughout, and a firm and consistent feeling for the entire smoke. We bought a box of these cigars. Each box came with 4 No. 1's, 8 No. 2's, and 8 No. 3's. Retail was supposed to be $495, we paid a touch over that. We also saw the cigars for sale as singles...get this, $40 for the No. 1's, $30 for the No. 2's, and $25 for the No. 3's. Surely not going to qualify for our "Best Value" designation! The Davidoff Millennium No. 2 is one of those cigars that we'll never be worth it's price, but will always appeal to you to give it a try. There's probably worse things you could do with $40, like see "The Talented Mr. Ripley" 5 times in the theatre. If those were my choices, I'd be smoking a bunch of these babies. Here's hoping you get the chance as well. Vital Statistics: Shape = Perfecto Length = 7 1/4" RG = 48 Wrapper = USA/Connecticut Shade Filler = Dominican Republic Binder =Dominican Republic Estimated Cost = $30.00
