Getting old, staying out to late, and alcohol do not mix. Prepare to be underwhelmed by our report today. Consider it is done while fighting hangovers, heat and humidity. As yesterday, we will update the article with pictures and additional information in the next weeks.
Giant Altadis has a few new lines in the works. Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve will be the most full bodied RyJ produced. This Nicaraguan wrapped cigar contains Nicaraguan binder coupled with Nicaraguan and Dominican filler and its five sizes will retail between $4.50 and $6.00. Bock y Ca is introduced to compete with other inexpensive premiums. MSRP’s ranging from $1.75 to $2.25 will make this cigar very competitive. Other new smokes from Altadis include the Te-Amo World Selection Series, available in Dominican, Honduras, and Nicaragua blends. One can not forget about Playboy, not to be confused with Don Diego Playboy. The new Playboy, a Dominican made Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapped cigar will have Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian fillers.
J.C. Newman adds the Maximus Double Belicoso #10 to the infamous Diamond Crown line. A dark rich Ecuadorian grown wrapper in a new super belicoso size adds a unique flavor to the taste of these full bodied cigars. Two cigars show up in the Cuesta-Rey family. A 5 ½ x 48 Centro Fino Cortez comes in a glass tube, while the 6 ½ x 55 Centro Fino #55 shows up as the largest ring gauge cigar in the Cuestra-Rey line. Get ready for what will be one of the hottest sellers this holiday season, The Limited Edition Diamond Crown Holiday Selection will include 3 new Diamond Crown cigars in the super belicoso size. Included will be a Diamond Crown Maximus Double Belicoso #10, a Diamond Crown Cameroon Select Double Robusto, and a Diamond Crown Classi Double Belicoso. The latter two of the three cigars will only be available in the gift set.
New from Perdomo is the Perdomo Habano. Available in Cuban seed Corojo wrappers and triple-fermented Nicaraguan Maduro wrappers, these cigars are blended with filler tobacco from three distinct reasons. The Habanos complexity comes from blending filler from Esteli, Jalapa, and Condega. Available in 5 sizes with retail prices from $5.00 to $7.00. Additionaly the Perdomo Reserve Executive Selection will contain cigars from all the Perdomo reserve lines in a beautiful drawered box.
SAG Imports hopes to continue their roll with the introduction of Joya De Nicaragua Serie C, Augusto Reyes, and some size additions to the Fonseca Cuban Limitado lines. The Serie C is a smooth yet full bodied smoke in a Connecticut wrap. The Augusto Reyes selection includes 3 lines with varying wrapper leaf. The Epicur and Criollo lines use a Ecuadorian grown Connecticut wrap, while the Nativo uses a Dominican Grown Criollo wrapper.
Rocky Patel had several new arrivals, Decade, Indian Tabac 10th Anniversary, and a re-launch of the Nicarao. The Decade comes in 4 sizes and is a Honduran puro with 20 cigars per box. This medium to full bodied cigar will retail from $8 to $10. Nish Patel, Rocky’s brother, declined to comment about the specific blend. The Indian Tabac 10th Anniv. also comes in 4 sizes and is an all Nicaraguan puro. These full bodied, specially blended cigars have a new band and packaging and come 20 cigars per box. The Nicarao brand, a Nicaraguan puro, comes in 4 sizes and is a medium bodied cigar with a special Jalapa Valley wrapper.
With nearly all the manufacturers, it all about the cigars. Then there is Gurkha. K. Hansotia and Roy McClelland continue to revamp the image and packaging of Gurkha as well as set records for the highest priced cigars. The HMR (Her Majestys Reserve) retails for over $700 per cigar. For those of us who can’t afford royal family prices, they had a number of products for the working class.
Gurkha had a parade of new products to show: The Legend, Vintage Shaggy, Black Dragon, Avenger G5, and Signature Anniversary. All were packaged in a range of beautiful humidor boxes that ranged from lacquered black to rustic wood. All the cigars are medium to full bodied in strength and are blended with vintage tobaccos.
At Torano, marketing director Aaron Guenther told us about their exclusive distribution arrangement with Dunhill. The deal makes sense since the Toranos produce some of the Dunhill line. Torano’s newest cigar is the Reserva Decadencia which is port infused and has been several years in the making. The newest line extension is a maduro version of the popular Casa Torano cigar. |
