Let's get serious, there isn't much advertising about Dos Rios, you don't see full page ads in Cigar Aficionado. The cigar was $3.50 at a local tobacconist, that means it can probably be found for under $3 on the 'net. All this and it performs? Introduced in 1997, the Dos Rios Robusto comes from Nick’s Cigar Co. of Miami. The Dos Rios line is actually made in Esteli, Nicaragua and, yes, this is the same Nick as in Nick Perdomo Jr. The Dos Rios Robusto uses Nicaraguan binder and filler blended from Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco. The wrapper is Sumatra seed, Ecuadorian grown tobacco. The robustos are packed in cabinets of 35 cigars. The Dos Rios Robusto approaches "Humidor Candy" status, with its extreme box press, a trademark of the Perdomo manufacturers. The cigar is very firm, and stays solid as you smoke it. Our panel gave out plenty of high "B's" along with a couple "A's" to sum up the looks of the Don Rios Robusto. There are no flaws in construction, and the Dos Rios lights and smokes with a plentiful and enjoyable bouquet. Many of the reviewers mentioned an abundance of rich gray smoke. There's a light but not subtle flavor to the Dos Rios, referred to with many different adjectives by our reviewers, it seemed to garner nothing but praise. "This cigar starts out with a mild, toasty, woody taste. A third of the way into the cigar the draw opens up and so does the flavor. The Dos Rios becomes a little spicy with a dry finish. At the halfway point, the dryness and spice seem to fade giving way to a stronger woody taste that is still smooth. There was a taste like black licorice that stays on the palette as an after taste. Black licorice?!! Hey, that’s what it seems like to me! This smoke also has a little touch of power. I would call this a medium bodied smoke." "Not overpowering, the Dos Rios has a simple yet enjoyable flavor. I have no problem with a mild-medium bodied smoke that retains its "groove" and doesn't leave a flavor bomb in my mouth when finished." Most of the reviewers put the Dos Rios Robusto on the mild side of medium bodied. It seems to have earned a following, and didn't upset a soul. So again, when you stumble on a consistent and enjoyable cigar that can come in under $3...you can't go wrong!
