How can you not like a cigar when it comes gift wrapped in cloud-like white tissue? I think we may have said the same think about the El Rey del Mundo Robusto, so we say it again about the Rectangulares. Once you get beyond the tissue paper, all you get is a drop-dead gorgeous wrapper that has an oily sheen like a 9th graders face after the lunch hour. The Rectangulares is box-pressed as well, for some reason a classic box pressed cigar seems to bring smiles to the faces of reviewers, as everyone unanimously loved the El Rey del Mundo Rectangulares.
Construction is a strong point; from the beginning the sexy, rich wrapper encompasses a burning ash that has a gray purity reminiscent of the old Cubans. One of our reviewers smartly noted that novice smokers interested in seeing the ash colors of a classic Cuban would benefit from smoking and experiencing the Rectangulares. It burns evenly as well, not micrometer perfect, but darn good.
If you have smoked ERdM's in the past, the Rectangulares won't disappoint you. The standard enjoyably strong, yet not overpowering flavor is present. A couple of our reviewers mentioned enjoying their smokes with a strong porter…seems to be one of the few marriages that works! If you can find a critique of this cigar, it would be the aftertaste. She hung on for a while, as noted by a few of the folks, although personally it wasn't noticed. The smoke and aroma given off by the Rectangulares is thick and rich, and will surely add to your experience.
One sub note on the flavor, since this can be a strong cigar, try smoking them both punched and cut. The smaller punch, can concentrate the flavor, and may cause the draw to tighten up a bit.
The price of this El Rey cannot be overlooked either; we bought these by the box, and paid just over $70 for a box of 30. Quite the steal for the quality you get. This cigar is a perfect addition to any humidor, if you r going for a great cigar, it fills the bill. If your trying for a desk decoration, this beauty comes through as well.
