In October 2007, smokers will find two new Gurkha premium cigars on retailers’ shelves. The company previewed Gurkha Status and Gurkha G5 Avenger at this year’s RTDA trade show. According to Kaizad Hansotia, CEO of Beach Cigar Group, makers of Gurkha cigars, “Excitement for these cigars helped make ours one of the top three booths for attendance. People were all wanting to know what Gurkha was offering this year, and we didn’t disappoint them. We’ve kept the striking presentation of the Grand Reserve ... with frosted white crystal tubes, in presentation-grade boxes of 30.” Status, a medium-bodied cigar, differs from the Grand Reserve, only in that it is a natural cigar, without the Grand Reserve’s infusion of cognac flavoring. The blend is Dominican, with a Connecticut shade wrapper, and the cigars are available in a 7" x 50 Churchill and a 6.5" x 52 Torpedo. Suggested retail pricing is are $380 and $390 respectively, in the 30-cigar boxes. The G5 Avenger is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro, which Hansotia describes as “the father of our popular G-3, deeply complex and powerful.” Available in a 6 x 50 Toro and 6 x 52 Torpedo, it is presented in boxes of 20 cigars of the same quality and unique style typical of all Gurkha cigars. MSRPs are $186 and $190, respectively.
