La Flor Dominicana Mysterio
The La Flor Dominicana packs a punch bigger than expected.

When Litto Gomez first introduced us to his La Flor Dominicana Mysterio at the 2006 RTDA, we had to admit, it was one cool looking cigar.  Unfortunately, there is often an inverse relationship found between good looking limited edition cigars and, well...decent flavor.  If that held true here, we were in for some trouble.

The Mysterio is a fabulous looking perfecto with a Honduran wrapper and Dominican filler and binder.  In a little twist, La Flor wraps some Maduro Connecticut Broadleaf around the head and foot of the cigar.  This is more for decoration as you are likely to cut off the head portion, and get just the first hints of the base wrapper.

To quote La Flor Dominicana's press about these cigars:   "The Mysterio incorporates a blend of Dominican and Sumatra tobaccos that add a hint of creamy sweetness to the spicy Nicaraguan wrapper. You get instant bold flavor upon lighting that mellows mid-way only to finish with a burst of flavor that will blow you away."

Jaded, maybe, but we have seen this before, claims of the magical flavor changing cigar.  Color us surprised, and pleasantly so as the reviews started coming in.  Folks were actually describing exactly what La Flor had.  A cigar with a sweet beginning that quickly turned full-bodied, mellowed a bit, and then finished with a strong some time overpowering flavor.  Complimented by La Flor Dominicana's quality construction, you have a cigar that can make Litto Gomez a proud man atop his horse.

It's no secret a perfecto will concentrate a cigars flavors, especially depending on the depth of the cut.  The Mysterio proved to be full of flavor, and sometimes stronger than some would have preferred.  This claims to be a medium to full bodied smoke.  There were no "mediums" described by our reviewers, and some of these guys would smoke a charcoal briquette and call it mild.  The Mysterio reached out with the power of a heavyweight boxer.  Our gut is that the shape of this cigar added to the strength.

Packaged in a nice display box of 5, the Mysterio is no budget cigar.  For those of you that have that stash of "limited release" smokes (and you know who you are), the La Flor Dominicana Mysterio is a good one to add to the collection.
