Tall drink of water. Think Manute Bol. This is a long cigar. Coming in at 9 1/4 inches, this giant of a cigar certainly lives up to its classification in length.
The Perdomo Reserve line is always rich looking, clean lines, dark, deep wrapper and perfect caps. Take all this into account with a 9 1/4 inch cigar, and you have a beautiful smoking companion. As you start salivating for this cigar, your lighter will twitch in your hand.
They say that looks can be deceiving, and in this case they are...and they aren't. The first time you pick up the Perdomo Reserve "A", you notice the length, but then you also notice a ring gauge that does not seem to match. With only a 47 in girth, this stick feels flimsy in your hands, prompting a couple of our reviewers too recommend a 52 or 54 inch ring gauge at a minimum. We tend to agree.
This cigar has a great draw, but that was all we can say positive about the construction. Of the 10 samples smoked, we had note from 8 of them as burning uneven. It became frustrating to have to use your lighter to try and even out the burn. Improper humidification can cause this, but these cigars were stored in the ever-perfect Vigilant Cabinet for over 3 months prior to smoking. The Perdomo Reserve "A" had an average aroma, nothing to thick, and predominantly enjoyable.
The flavor tended to fluctuate in the cigars, as is apt to happen in such a lengthy smoke. A bland beginning, many of the samples finished in a much finer fashion. If you focus on taste as your defining factor (and who doesn't?) you may need to try a couple of these to really understand if its the one for you. There was little noticeable aftertaste.
Priced correctly, it was mentioned again and again that this is worth giving a try. Whether or not this will become a staple in and of our reviewers humidors is doubtful.
If your in the mood for a good looking, 1 1/2 hour smoke, give it a try. Don't pass judgment to quick, as this guy will change personalities on you.
