It was hard to find any taste flaws with this cigar, although the construction of over half of our samples led to some cigars being unsmokeable.
A very rustic looking maduro wrapper, you expect a rough and wild smoke, nothing refined here, this cigar wants you to take the cute little band off, and take a walk in the deep woods. The taste does not mimic the look of the cigar, it's mild, yet flavorful. Pre-taste was a touch on the sweet side, with one of our reviewers describing it as follows: " The pre-light taste was slightly sweet, like a package of sweetener had been opened and a dusting of the powder touched the end."
Burn and ash were acceptable, with one reviewer adding that he lit the cigar crooked and it quickly corrected itself top an even burn. Cool, now we have our cigars correcting our mistakes!
Aftertaste was a bit strong for some, but was also noted as going away after 30-60 minutes.
Many of us never got to the aftertaste. It's hard not to devote the majority of this review to the shoddy construction we found in the Montesino Diplomatico Maduro. 3 of our reviewers mentioned cigars that plugged in the middle, and became impossible to draw on for the final half of the cigar. During the difficult draw, some bizarre flavors were being described. A soapy, overwhelming flavor was noted by two, causing in the quick and painless execution of said cigars. I was one of the reviewers with a plugged cigar. I've had a bunch of plugged smokes in my days, but never anything like this. I almost sucked my eyes into my head trying to get some air through this tunnel. The cigar I smoked was more congested than the L.A. freeways.
We know that Montesino's can be good cigars, and hope this batch of 12 was not representative of what is going to be seen going forward.
