Never having heard of the Neptune line of cigars, we were curiously looking forward to getting these puppies and reviewing them. The cigars were ordered from the Neptune web site (you can get there from our cigar links page) and the service we received was outstanding, with free shipping, and practically instant delivery Before we get into the cigar, the Neptune cigar site is worth checking out. These cigar come in an extremely cool box, with a humidor and cutter built in. Thinking ahead, Neptune will also sell them in bundles, so you don't have to pay for that pretty little green box!
This turned out to be one of the cigars that you either loved or were fairly indifferent on. At least our reviews broke along those lines. In fact this is the first review in which one of the "testers" was female. That's right, diversification! Nobody disliked it, just wasn't earth shattering to a couple reviewers. (She loved it!)
So now your wondering what were those "lines" we broke on? Do you like a strong cigar or a mild cigar? If your answer is mild, this cigar is for you, everyone was ecstatic. If you like a stronger cigar, this may be a bit weak for you, but we think you'll enjoy it none the less. If you don't agree, check out that price again.
The Neptune Naiades was a very mild, somewhat creamy cigar. You may expect this prior to lighting during your visual inspection. Two reviewers likened this cigar to the original Romeo y Julieta Vintage from a flavor perspective. I think this is a bit if a reach, but I can see why it would be said. Although a good looking cigar, the wrapper is pale enough to make you want to send it to the beach without the Coppertone. If there was a fault, a couple of the reviewers mentioned that upon cutting the cigar the wrapper splintered a bit. Going back and taking a look at what we have left, you can see that it's a thin leaf holding this together.
The burn and ash were not noticeable on either a great or poor side. The draw on this cigar was perfect when cut with a "double guillotine" cutter, and a bit tight with an Avo punch style cut. We wouldn't mention this other than to say we don't notice this on many cigars we test, and your type of cut obviously makes a big difference on the draw of your cigar.
We've already rambled on to long, there is no decision here. If you like a relatively mild cigar, this is for you. The price is beyond right, I mean what do you want, a beautiful cigar in a gorgeous box, for less than $4.00 a pop? Rocket scientists we don't need for this decision.
