Palmas Puro, the little cigar nobody has heard of. If you’re a fan of mild cigars, and you missed the boat on Palmas Puro, better get paddling as these are not to be missed. We reviewed the Palmas Puro Petit Torpedo, a 5 x 54 short torpedo that provides a nice quick smoke. Palmas Puro cigars are made in Miami, Florida by Palmas Puro Cigar Company and rolled in the La Tradicion Cubana factories. The cigars are a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, and Honduran binder, all wrapped by a light Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. First thing you’ll notice is a nice clean looking light brown Ecuadorian wrapper. A regal looking band makes the cigar show well. Once lit there is one thing that can not be debated: cigars are some of the most fantastically constructed cigars you will ever hold. The ash will hang on forever, and seems to burn so even you wonder if it’s a bit anal-retentive! Palmas Puro’s marketing claims these cigars fall in the “medium bodied/fuller flavored” category. In this area we have to respectfully disagree. All reviewers called this a mild cigar; there was nary a mention of “medium” or “fuller” by a soul on our review staff. You might think this is a bad thing, but it is not. In this day of “stronger is better” in cigars, you’re cheating yourself and your palate if you don’t occasionally enjoy a nice mild smoke. There surely is something enjoyable to a nice mild cigar that treats you right while you’re smoking it, and knows when to go home when you’re done. When you get to that mild cigar, smoke the Palmas Puro…it’s that good. Universally hailed by the reviewers: “I also got the taste of more cedar and some sweetness with leather remaining in the background. The construction of this cigar was flawless. Beautiful wrapper with minimal veins. Slow smoker with a gray/black ash that held past 1 inch. The ash was very firm and I had no fear that it would be in my lap. The aroma of this cigar was nice and mild and clean” “With the outstanding construction quality and mildness, this would be a great beginner’s cigar, or one to give out to the friend who smokes occasionally.” Okay, so they are mild cigars which…if you know that going in…will not let you down. Add to that a MSRP of around $4 dollars, and you have your new “go to” mild cigar. Vital Statistics: Size – 5 x 54 Wrapper- Ecuador Connecticut Binder- Honduras Filler- Nicaragua & Dom. Republic MSRP - $4.00
