It wasn't long before the old industry standby Te-Amo gave the "Anniversario" marketing routine a try. It seems like only yesterday we can picture Larry Laoretti walking down the fairways of the senior tour with a monster Te-Amo in his mouth. Te-Amo, or any cigar originating from Mexico, has historically taken a beating in cigar magazines, evolving into the Rodney Dangerfield of the industry with their cries of "we get no respect". Top25Cigar decided to find out if this sexy new Te-Amo could shake the reputation hanging on Mexican cigars. At first glance you have a beautiful cigar, nice dark wrapper, new perfecto shape, and a fancy new band with the obligatory sub-band announcing that this cigar is something special. The wrapper had no real shine to it, almost seeming a bit overcooked, or dry. Lighting a perfecto can often cause fits, as uneven burns tend to result. We don't hold back any points for that, as it is often a function of our spastic lighter maneuvers, rather than imperfect construction. The draw was uncharacteristically tight, and this cigar may have been rolled a bit over-energetically. A thin smoke accompanied by a very strong tobacco flavor prompted one of our reviewers to comment "This had a more bold tobacco taste, but I wouldn't characterize it as a full bodied taste. I tried to define flavors but really didn't seem to find a lot there." A roughness or peppery strength was pegged as increasing as the cigar was smoked. Many reviewers mentioned that this would be a hard cigar to finish without having a beverage to cool their palate. (Okay guys, use any excuse you can get to have a beer.) Ultimately, it seems Te-Amo has put together a nicely wrapped package, but can't escape filling it with sub-standard tobacco. Out of five reviewers, all answered the "would you smoke this cigar again" question with a negative. We've all seen them before, pretty package with nothing inside.
