"Solid as a rock"
The construction of this cigar stands out over anything else. I enjoyed this the day after a Opus X Belicoso X3, and enjoyed it much more. Although both cigars enjoyed fantastic construction, the Don Carlos had a much more consistant taste. This is among the better cigars.

"Impressive looks"
Great looking and well constructed, this impressive smoke burns and smokes very nicely. Flavor is good for this line, but price is a bit higher than one would wish.

"Get the point?"
Like a presidente only pointy, the DC #2 provides all the aged tobacco and style of the other DC, but gives you the option of cutting thin to focus the blast. I'm up for a box. Who's with me?

"What changed?"
When Fuente introduced the DC line years ago this was my favorite stick; taking me back to the great pre-boom Cubans. A really heady aroma, strength felt in the gut not on your tongue, just a full-bodied masterpiece and very unique. Fast forward to the last couple years (or more) and the wrapper coloration, texture, and overall experience is completely different. I have a box of these 2/3 full from December 2006 that are damn good smokes, great construction and burn and a solid medium cammie taste, but not the original blend for sure. This used to be the finest in the line but now I much prefer (in order) the Dbl Rob, #4, and Belicoso. I will always grab one of these every once in awhile; but will never buy a box again.

"Don Carlos #2"
Flawless construction and burn. Taste was good, but nothing special. Per usual, all the Fuente's seem to be excellently constructed with an even consistent burn. Too much money for what you get

"Not doing it for me"
I think they could do alot better for the money spent. Burn has been extremely uneven, draw was tight. Just peppery taste, nothing else to enjoy. I like the shorter versions of this brand for some reason they just seem better, or maybe it's because I loose patience in smoking these. Hit or miss, you be the judge.

"expresso"
beautiful light gray ash that first started to crack at about an inch and a half. flavor almost exclusively espresso at first but then later slightly sweet with a spicy after taste. very relaxing smoke with a perfect amount of flavor

"Wonderful"
one of the first cigars in which I taste all the flavors I have read about.Expresso and Caramel which did not change much throughout the cigar. Just got a bit stronger toward the end. I have not smoked any Cubans but if they are better than this one , then I want them. And I want many of them. Great construction. No soft spots. Great ash and did not need any relights or corrections. Great draw with plenty of floral smelling smoke. i did not like the bulk of Fuente products. Have smoked the Curly Head and the Montesino brands. Like some of the Hemingway products but this is the best. Worth the price. Wonder if the naysayers of this cigar got some cigars which had not been properly stored?? Always a lot of variables!!!

"Truly, a wonder"
Amazing that something half a foot long can provide an experience as close to heaven as life on earth can get. Lit it up after a nice shrimp and lobster dinner and was the perfect cap to a great meal. Floral aroma, flavor profile of caramel, espresso and cocoa--the gold standard for Cameroon smokes. Truly, an unbelievable experience. Pricey, but well worth the price. The Presidente is my regular smoke for this line but this size is a nice change. If you can find a box for under $225, grab it--I know it'll be tough to spend that much, but once you light the first one, you'll be glad you did

"As good as it gets"
Dead even with the opus X no 2. Every bit as complex and powerful. The burn was perfect draw was easy and smoke was thick. One of the best.

"Not impressive"
A well constructed, good looking stick. Very hard starting with tight draw until about 1/2 way down, then opened up and drew well. Unimpressive taste.
Way overpriced.

"Expected much more"
No. 4 in Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of 2004. It's a beautifully shaped cigar with a toothy and slightly oily wrapper with good color. While the draw is slightly firm it burns evenly and consistently; the ash is solid but the smoke produced is a little thin and wispy. The first half-inch is pretty bland; this cigar is supposed to be a slow starter so this wasn't a surprise. However, it doesn't improve much as only a dry wood flavor appears to accompany the sweetness from the wrapper. There are vague hints of nuts and other spices but they never fully surface. A disappointing smoke, especially given the price and the name. This cigar was undoubtably better in the past, but the recent poor reviews suggest that the current blend may be off, or the Fuente people have been neglecting this line while pursuing their other projects.

"Dud"
I am decidedly underwhelmed by the Don Carlos line, and this was no exception. Attractive torpedo shape with a milk chocolate wrapper with a medium-sized vein running up the side. Solid construction without soft spots. Almost nonexistent prelight aroma. Easy light. Even burn without the need for relights or corrections. Smooth draw. Solid cylinder of white ash. Tons of billowy smoke. I usually would course through the flavor profile in thirds at this point, but instead I can sum it up by saying this is a one-dimensional cigar with a predominantly woody taste (sweetish cedar, of sorts) and paper. It never opened up and it never developed any more complexity. The construction was definitely the highpoint, and there is something to be said for that, but for the $$, it was very disappointing. Wouldn't buy more.

"Overrated"
This cigar is way overrated. don;t get me wrong it's a decent smoke, but the flavor is mild and forgettable, the construction is loose, and for the price there are far better choices.

"Not worth the price"
Why did I cave to the hype.....This cigar is nothing special of a typical $6.00 smoke. Cured tobacco/leather type flavors had flashes of heat and spice. Burn and contruction were average at best. Was expecting more.

"Good, but was expecting great"
A nice looking cigar that drew well, but was severely lacking in flavor. It was pretty flat except for some mild floral notes. Better than any Fuente I’ve had before, but don’t mistake that for an endorsement. At 1/3 of the price, this would be an okay cigar, but at $13.00, it’s simply unacceptable.

"Smoke um if u got um!"
Although this is a great cigar, I have smoked cigars that are alot less money and are just as good. I am a college student and I wouldent be able to buy this cigar on a regular basis. Smoke them if yo got them but not for me anymore. Good overall cigar if you can afford them.

"50 / 50"
It had been a while since I tried a Don Carlos, so I decided to buy 2 and give them a try. I opted for the larger No. 2 since I had some consistency problems with the smaller sizes. Also had problems with cracking wrappers.
Well, the first one of these was a total waste. Noticed a small crack in the wrapper when it came out of the celophane. I didn't think this would be a problem, so I proceeded to light up. As soon as I got the stick lit, the wrapper completely unraveled! $11.00 down the drain! A couple of days later I tried the second. What can I say? This one was near perfect in every way. Lots of smoke. Flavor to die for. Typical Fuente; an excellent cigar, if you can afford to throw half of them away!

"A Creeper"
The wrapper had a slight sheen, tiny veins. As I licked the cap to clip, I noticed that it had a sweet spicy taste that tingled on my tongue. The pre-light draw, had a hint of the Opus. It's a stout Vitola but not packed, I would say just the right amount of leaves. The burn was A1, but after a 1/2 inch of ash the draw became hard. Poked the end with a fine micro screw driver and great draw was on! The flavors was very complex and grew in strength as I puffed away on great volumes of smoke. By the last 3rd the strength and spice were bad ass.Loved the blend on all aspects. A true nubber

"Good for non-cuban"
This cigar was a top pick in CA's Top 25 issue, so I gave it a try. Bought two & put them in my humi for a month to rest. Looks great, Flawless construction, big at 55 gauge. Flat at first, middle was good, fairly complex mild to medium flavors, gives off a lot quality smoke. Finish was somewhat short. Overall smooth & medium bodied with an okay draw.

"Great Cigar!"
I was given a #2 as one of the first smokes I ever had. Being new to cigars I was expecting the same bitter flavor and aftertaste I got from what I now realize were very poor cigars. I was floored by the flavor and smoothness of this cigar. I always have at least 2 on hand now along with many of the others from this line. Absolutely fantastic!
