Ashton Maduro Pyramid

I have to agree with Scotty's review below, in that I have experienced some inconsistency with these smokes, in the Pyramid especially. My last one was so different: very peppery with a bitter aftertaste. Not the smooth aromatic smokes I have enjoyed previously with this line.

This line is starting to aggravate me. I've probably smoked about 5 of these over the years. The all had at least 3 months of box time. They are getting worse. I loved the first. Liked the second, third. My fourth was average. Yesterday's was average. The average ones had uneven burns and weak flavor profiles. When these are on they have a nice slightly sweet, sometimes spicy, creamy, rich, maduro flavor profile. I'll age the rest another 3 months. If they are average, I am done with these. I don't like paying $5-6 at auction for "average" cigars. I'll let you know in October. Consider yourself on "notice" Ashton. Tread cautiously here.

I won a fiver of these sticks on CBID. After having smoked a enjoyed the 40, 50, and 60, I couldn't wait to try one of these. I should have. Unfortunately, the stick needed aging and I didn't enjoy it at all. In fact I gave three of the remaining four to my oldest son who wanted to try them. By this time, they had been in the humidor for a month or so, and my son really enjoyed them. I tried the last one and it was better by far. I didn't have the same taste as any of the above mentioned sticks, but with aging it definitely improved.

There's just something about the shape and size of this wonderful Ashton Aged maduro Pyramid that I can't describe. I just like it and it makes me feel comfortable. Sure these sticks are pricey and I am paying an extra $4 just for the sharp Ashton label. I love the cool, mild, yet complex taste and finish of these babies. When they age right you can't beat it for the look of the shiny maduro wrap. For some reason I always seem to have burn problems with these. Nothing that a few "welds" from the lighter can't fix. Comparable to the Partagas Black Torpedo ($6) and the Nestor 2000 box pressed torpedo($2) (once aged properly for about 3 months) in flavor.
