"Not as powerful"
Not as powerful as the Illusion, much milder. The finish is spicy but not peppery as the Illusion.

"not impressed"
The cigar had excellent construction and was in very good condition. The draw was great and it burned well. The taste was flat, earthy and one dimensional. I do not recommend this cigar considering its high price.

"good 'super premo' smoke"
Great flavor and draw had no burn issues, like the robusto a liitle more. I have no idea what the people rateing this a 4 and a 5 are into smoking a friggin Macanudo!? LoL. oh well I think more experienced smokers and those with good taste should give this size a go.

It's not bad. It really packed a punch when I smoked the first inch and then it lightend up.

"I'm done with VSG's!"
This was my fourth VSG, the others being two Tres Mystigues and a robusto. None of them, not a single one was any good to me and this one was no exception. One thing I can say about this series though is that the cigars are goregous looking. Smooth, veinless wrappers with a rock solid feel to the cigar itself. However, there have been negative trends I have had with all of these cigars. One is a super loose draw, so loose that it's like you're not even smoking. The smoke itself is thin and unsatisfying. Second has been terrible burn issues. These things tunnel and run like crazy. This one tunneled within the first inch and had to be re-lit twice. Finally it's been the flavor. Bland, bland and more bland. There is seriously no character to it at all. I know that these are generally regarded as high end, top shelf cigars but to me there is a lot better out there for much less dinero. If you are a fan of these more power to you but as for me, I'm done.

"Not up to its hype for me"
I had high hopes for this one, but when I got it, I had a bad draw and a horrible burn. It took me half the cigatr to get the burn even. The taste was good, with cedar and leather tones until the last inch, where it turned rather harsh and bitter. I want to give this cigar another shot, but first impression was not a good one.

"Not up to par"
The one I had was very ordinary. Nothing spectacular at all about it. It was rather ho hum and didn't have alot of taste.

"Powerful"
This is not a cigar for beginners. Full-bodied and full of flavor. Spicey with un undercurrent of almonds, vanilla and cedar. A beautiful, oily wrapper with prominent veins. Perfect draw but an uneven burn, which is expected from such a thich cigar. The ring gauge allows for ample amounts of strong tobacco, presumably liegro. This smoke definitely packs a good N-buzz!

"Great cigar, even for the price"
This was a great cigar. Full-bodied, nice cedar & spice flavor, but never too hot or peppery. Expensive, but an excellent smoke. Very nice presentation with a medium dark marbled wrapper and excellent construction, except for one sharp vein near the top. The look of the cigar was complimented and enhanced by the classy band.
The one I smoked was packed tight and had a difficult draw until I poked into the mouth end with the short philips head end of a tweaker. It give a small diameter hole about 1/2" deep and has never failed to relief draw issues for me.
At the $15 I paid (reasonable for a local shop price), I can't give it high marks for value, but on every other count the Ashton VSG torpedo was a pleasurable smoke.

"Great, but not for the faint of heart"
This was close to perfection for the first 3/4. This cigar felt solid, splendid construction. The light was perfect and there was a smooth but spicy taste right off the bat. It burned evenly with a beautiful ash and although I heard it was strong, it was quite pleasant and flavorful all the way down to the last quarter. That is when it punched me in the grill. Now I know where the "strong" reviews came from. The last part of this cigar was very strong, and caught up to me, making me light-headed. I tried to finish the whole thing, but was just too nauseous. If you are not a frequent cigar smoker, this will give you a good punch. I don't regret it at all though. The first 3/4 of this cigar was the best I ever had.

"A great VSG"
I'm not sure if it is that I am a fan of the pyramid cigars or if it is because this cigar rocks, but the smoke was great. The best part is the last 3/4. But, the whole smoke reaked of cedar and provided tons of great tasting smoke. I would grab it again, but the price is steep.

"not bad, but..."
Maybe my expectations of this cigar were too high. This cigar is well made, and burns well. The draw is just right. My only gripe is that this cigar was a little light on flavor. I really enjoy the flavor of a SG wrapper, and this one started out with a very good, smooth, SG taste. But...the flavor faded the longer it smoked. Overall, a good cigar that just didn't live up to all the reviews that I've read. To me, the 'Serie 55 SG' is better for less money.

"Sun Grown For Sure"
A top notch cigar in the same class as Opus, Fuente Anejo, Garmirian 15th ann., and Padron 1964s. Sold construction, perfect burn and ash. Aged tobaccos with plenty of complexity. The only drawback for me is that sometimes the sun grown wrapper is a bit too strong in flavor and takes over - making it one dimensional. If you like sun grown wrappers, or the stronger taste of cigars like those in the Camacho line, then this is right up your alley.

"Classic"
This is a very good all around cigar. Hints of spice, cedar and to me an hard to explain taste. Most of the time when I find this in a cigar people refer to it as floral or citric. I'm not sure this is the taste. The taste is very complexed. This is a good drawing cigar with good exhales and very good burn. This VSG had a very dark wrapper leaf, which I or my cigar rep has seen on this cigar. All in all a classic.

"Excellent Cigar"
I expected this cigar to be on the full-flavored side. The flavor was great. A sweetness right from the beginning that stayed well past half way. Coffee flavors turned peppery toward the end. Although the cigar was firm the draw was very easy. Overall this was a pleasure to smoke. I will keep a couple of these in the humidor for special occasions but the price makes them a poor choice for every day.

"Nice"
I had just tried the enchnatment, but the shop was out when I went to buy another, so I opted to buy this thing, it was a beast. I clipped of the end off and went to work, this thing was creamy, spicy, nutty, and some dried cherries in there to. It was also smooth and strong, this thing must have lasted me about an hour and a half, and when I was done I had to sit down, but even though it was strong it had not bite even up to the end. I think that the enchantment was smoother and more complex, but this one last longer, so they're both great cigars.

"Ehhhh"
I recently smoked another VSG and it was one of my top 3 cigars, however this one just wasnt up to par taste wise, I hate to rate such a prestigous cigar with such low ratings but I feel like I got cheated out of my 10 or so dollars on this one, the taste was indistigushable, but it was a but chemical taste maybe of ammonia, I was storing it in a fuente humidor bag so maybe that had something to do with it, and as much as I would like to take blame for the bad taste, I think I just got a bad one, but as could be expected construction and appearance were top notch, its a shame flavor wasnt.

I enjoy cheaper cigars with great flavor, but if you want a top tier cigar once in a while this is a winner. For the money I will go with the Padron 1964 Torp first.

"Very Tasty"
Started out mild with floral, citrus and cedar flavors. Second third was more medium/full body, a bit tangy with an undescribable full flavor. Last third was medium body, smooth rich, thick and tasty. All in all a Very Enjoyable cigar, smooth throughout. Other notes: nice construction, uneven burn, medium draw, loose ash. Well worth the money.

"Milder than expected"
Very nice cigar, seemed a bit milder than the robusto. Bit of a tight draw, but was excellent. I'd say medium in body. Pepper at the start that calmed some and inch or so in. Wrapper a darkish brown, boy they look good. Didn't disappoint. I thought the robusto size was a bit stronger but the torp was much smoother, more refined. An hour of pleasure..

"Comfortable punch in the face!!"
Solid smoke to the nub. A heavy hitter that smacks you with a myriad of flavor bursts. Cubanesque in flavor and appearance. It's very expensive though here in New England at $14.00 a stick retail. Definitely a special occassion type cigar. This is an eighties Mike Tyson smoke where Opus would be an Ali.

"Simply Great"
Absolute great smoke. The wrapper had a great dark earthy color, with a wonderful leather texture. It lights with ease and quicky hits you with its strong spicey flavor. This cigar is not for the novice, the extremely full-bodied flavor comes with a blast, but never become overpowering. The aftertaste is a wonderful one, leaving memories of the wonderful smoke. No complaints here and for a two dollar drop in price I prefer this over the spellbound. A must try for any serious cigar smoker.

"Keeper"
The VSG has a sturdy feel, thick and hard. This could have something to do with a somewhat tight draw through the middle of the stick. The wrapper was an attractive deep brown and had a spicy peppery taste before the cut, but more sweetness during the pre-light draw. It started out somewhat peppery and seemed like it might be a fuller-bodied smoke. About an inch in the flavor changed, and a creamier coffeelike flavor kicked in. The VSG seemed more medium bodied through most of the smoke, but turned a bit more spicy again towards the finish. It needed one correction as it began to run a little bit halfway through. All in all a good cigar, though not the best value out there considering the price. I will leave a couple in the humi to see how they age.

"Not what I expected"
Based on the many reviews, I was expecting a very strong, spicy smoke. To me, this was not a "powerhouse" cigar. It was full flavored, but only medium bodied. This is a beautiful, and well constructed stick. The first impression was primarily a tobacco flavor, smooth but with little finish. Halfway through, it developed a sweeter, nut-like flavor, which reminded me very much of a Diamond Crown Maximus. Overall, a rich, flavorful smoke, but not the spicy powerhouse that I had been led to expect.

Ashton VSGs are powerful and full flavored cigars oozing with oil. Great construction, easy draw and even burn. The flavor has a mix of nuts and spices. Perfect after a steak dinner and definitely not a beginner cigar.

"Great Potential, but falls short"
Tried two before reviewing. Tight construction got in the way of enjoyment...the second cigar required surgery to make it smokable. I will say the flavors are wonderful when you can get to them and it is a very attractive looking cigar. I prefer the Cuesta-Reys CSGs as a better value, of comparable flavor quality and greater smokability.

"Why all the hype?"
This one had been sitting in my humidor for at least 18 months. I finally decided what the hell, lets see what all the fuss is about the Ashton VSGs....
The construction is nice, burn and draw perfect, but I smoke cigars for the flavor, and thats where the Ashton VSG doesn't quite live up to all the hype. The flavor was just straight ahead tobacco, medium bodied, with a fairly low nicotine level. I was expecting the VSG to have a unique flavor profile like a CAO Brazilia, but it really didn't distinguish itself as anything special.
I'm not sure what I paid for this one, I think it was part of a sampler. With VSGs going for upwards of $10 per, I'm wondering what the attraction is. I know I can find cigars I like better than this at about 1/3 the price...
