"Delicious with perfect burn"
This cigar had an absolute razor like line where the burn was, among the best I have ever seen. The flavor was mild and creamy, yet with a bit more zest than an AVO or Mac. A real pleasure to smoke, oh and large amounts of smoke sweeet!

"UNDERRATED"
Last night, up on my West Virginia Ridge, I was treated to a warm temperature inversion in November I decided to take advantage of it and sit under the stars and ponder all the changes in my life since the last time I rated a CAO Gold Robusto eight months ago. However, I eventually started to ponder how an excellent cigar like this can be so underrated. The cigar looks good, burns very good and taste very good. My original rating was right, it has a butter-like taste. Normally with a mild to medium cigar like this, I might try a good sippin whiskey or the like with it. However the CAO does a good job of standing on it's own. It might be underrated by some, but not under appreciated by me.

"This one put me to sleep"
I’ve enjoyed CAO’s and I’ve found some of them sort of tasteless. This one was more in line with the latter. That does not mean it’s a bad smoke. It looked great and was very well constructed just didn’t have the taste I was looking for. BUT, if you don’t like this CAO that’s no problem just grab another one…they probably make 100 different cigar types…......... maybe that’s the problem.

"Overall Good"
I've had one of these and I was fairly satisfied. I had a terrible light, which was my fault, but the cigar quickly recovered. The flavor was fairly mild and burned cool. Flavor was much better in the beginning. In the end it was a bit more harsh, but I still thought it was good. Did start to burn unevenly towards the end. Overall, I was pretty satsified with the cigar. Held an ash well, I only had to ash it twice.

"decent solid smoke"
I recieved this robusto in a sample pack that I ordered. Having smoked several Criollos and Italians, I think that CAO is a decent brand. The Gold robusto was no different...exceptional construction and even burn with a tight grey ash. Spicy and nutty were the main flavors of this medium bodied cigar. For the price, it won't let you down.

"Butter Than You Think!"
I usually check out the old data base before I buy and cigars. I did with the CAO Gold Robusto and I almost let it go, but I'm so glad I didn't listen to all the negative ratings. I fould this gar to be quite delicious and fairly complex in taste. Almost immediately there was a salty-tart-sweet taste that I can best describe as butter. That's what I said "butter".
This flavor faded as the cigar enter the second half but never totally left. The construction was flawless as the burn went perfect even in the moderate wind as I strolled the West Virginia ridges and valleys with the black labs. The CAO Gold line is one that looks almost as perfect as the commercial photos of it. So why all the mediocre reviews? I guess some people prefer margurine.

"Might have been too green."
I remember sucking down a toro or churchill in this line a few years back and I liked it. My latest experience with this robusto, much like other reviewers mention, was uneventful. I found this to be mostly dull, lacking good smooth tobacco flavor. It was oftentimes hot and harsh which leads me to believe the 3 months of aging or so on this was not enough (gauge said good to go though). Burn and draw were fine. I'll be back in late spring with another review. Oftentimes it's all in the proper aging. Tread catiously here...but one cigar should not make an opinion. I think I got a 5 pack on C-Bid for $17-ish...so that's $3.50 for PP.

"A Mixed Review"
This was my second time smoking one of these, after leaving it in my humidor a number of months. The flavor was stronger on this one, and it was a fairly intense spice for a little while. I didn't expect that. It mellowed out into a more woody flavor about halfway through. The burn was even. Ash was very white and held on for a long time. The smoke was beautiful. The only problem is that this cigar fell apart as I was smoking it. The wrapper peeled up in several places. It didn't cause any real problems, it was just annoying. If it weren't for the wrapper issues, this cigar would have been totally fantastic instead of just very good.

"Deadweight Tonnage"
Third or fourth afternoon on the boat. Belly full of grog and galley chow. Sea legs under me now, amidships. Clear skies and furled sails slapping above. Captain gybing into the wind. Lit up the CAO and puffed on it watching for porpoise and seal. Burned just fine and tasted um, well, it wasn’t the best cigar I’ve had, and I’m one from the school of atmosphere is half the rating, and onboard the schooner (Victory Chimes) off the islands of Maine with a pleasant wind and nothing to do nowhere to go even a Swisher should have been elevated to near rapture. But alas, I can’t give it much latitude. It was a disappointment. I had to pull on it way too hard for little more than a dead-calm tobacco flavor. No wind in the sails of this cigar. I put it down in the improvised coffee can ashtray next to the scuppers and used the head.

"Well constructed, slightly bland smoke"
Nice smooth wrapper, with no defects that I noticed. Slightly sweet & mild taste before the lighting, but quickly replaced with a bland tobacco taste. I'm still very much a cigar novice, but the only other scents & taste I could detect were woody and mild. I've got a few more in the humidor which I'm going to age a while and hope for a more complete smoke.

I had rather high expectations, but was a little disappointed because this one didn't have the character and charisma of many of the other CAO cigars. "Very nice and mild - too much so?"
Well constructed with a smooth draw. The ash would not quit! 🙂 I ashed twice during the smoke. Nice and cool smoke, not overwhelming volume. As for flavor, it was very undertoned. Not much to it. Light, somewhat creamy, with a bit of a spiciness and leather to the last third. Other than it it wasn't much there. Great for a morning or afternoon smoke I'd guess.

"I've got to disagree w/ the majority"
I hate to rate anything CAO has done poorly, because I've smoked the Cameroons, the Brazilias, and the MX2's, and thought they were all good and a great value, but this was my first cigar from the Gold line and I thought it was average at best. The wrapper was incredibly veiny and started to tear early on. It went out on me once even though I was smoking along at a quick rate. Prelight, the wrapper had a strong taste of honey, and I thought I'd be in for an interesting smoke, but that flavor vanished after a few puffs, and no subsequent flavor seemed to want to take its place. I have one left in the humidor and will let it sit for 3 or 4 months before giving it a go.

Perhaps it was the particular cigar I had, but liked very little about it once it was going. Oh, it's an attractive ciger and it has a consistent burn. But find harshness about an inch into this and not much complexity in the taste, nor any real enjoyment in the aroma. Very mediocre cigar.

"Performs well with a nutty character"
Packed in a glass tube, this is a solid and well-made robusto. The draw and burn initially are excellent; the draw gets a bit firmer as you go along. It produces lots of cedary smoke. There is a predominant nutty, pistachio-like flavor throughout the smoke. The first half has accompanying dry wood and peppery notes but these become muted as a creamy character takes over. Even down at the last 2 inches it never gets hot, harsh, or mushy, a testament to this cigar's solid construction. The finish is both creamy and nutty. Overall, a medium-bodied smoke with the quality expected from C.A.O.

"Yet another exceptional CAO"
Like all CAO cigars, the Gold is a perfect balance of body and flavor. CAO is on the cutting edge of what cigar smokers want in a cigar today. Average is no longer acceptable. Most other manufacturers make a standard line, and a premium line. In a pioneering effort, CAO has decided to drop the standard lines altogether, and focus on producing the best cigars that can be made. The Gold is more of a classic smoke than the other unique brands CAO makes such as Brazilia, or Itala. It would go well at a wedding, or a ball, when you want to step out on the balcony for some quiet solitude and reflection.

This stick, first off, is well made. Nicely rolled and nice looking too. Draw is on the tight side of perfect, with lots of smoke and a great ash. Flavor? Well, it aint bad. Starts off smooth and mild, middle is a bit better, then mine finished with a somewhat funky, vegetal/chemical taste. Not a nubber, thats for sure. Overall, Id give an 8 if the end wasnt a dissapointment. An ok, above average smoke. Being a two stick a week smoker, I prefer top notch stuff (Hemingways or Padron Anniversary blow this stick away, although pricier for sure).

Heard some nice things about this cigar; when it first was lit I was disappointed. Started out plain and flat. Then, as it warmed up, some nice flavors stared to come through. By the time I was done, it had turned into a pretty good cigar. Would make a nice step up for someone who is used to smoking very mild cigars. They'll probably find this one a little more full bodied and stronger w/o being overpowering.

"A1 SMOKE!"
This is a very creamy tasting smoke. Well constructed, even burn, and a very long grey white ash. This is a great everyday stogie that will not disappoint!

Creamy is the word with the C.A.O. Gold Robusto. It's a smooth, rich cigar on the mild side. It won't overpower or disapoint. If you like to crank out clouds of smoke this baby is for you.
