Though it may be a step above a mac maduro, it's only a slight step. Burn and draw were fine for the half i smoked before i became so bored i feared i would accidentally enter a coma.

"Very tasty"
Grabbed this cigar and ripped of the tissue paper wrapper and underneath was a nice looking maduro with a maybe one decent size vein smelled a little sweet and chocolaty as many maduros do.

I lit this bad boy up and got pepper along with some chocolate and coffee notes. It smothed out pretty quickly though and I got nice sweet flavor along with hits of chocolate and sometimes coffee. I almost never get chocolate taste from a maduro I usually just get earthy and coffee but this one hat a good amount of chocolate and I do like myself some chocolate so I enjoyed this.

As I worked my way through I some leather and hay flavors along with pepper building throughout the cigar. Its stayed pretty smooth with the sweetness and lingering chocolate throughout. I would say it started medium and was pushing full by the end but stayed pretty smooth.

The burn was nice I made sure I rotated it and no touch ups were needed. The ash left some to be desired anything more than maybe an inch and half and you were begging for it to fall in you lap(which it did once).

I enjoyed this cigar a look forward to smoking the other one I have in my humi.

"Great cigar on a budget"
First and foremost, I must say I love this cigar (so this may seem a little biased)

I've smoked about 5 of so in the last month, and each time I do, regardless of age, they are always right up my alley.

I don't feel it's necessary to get into specifics of this cigar so I'll keep this short n sweet. A nice med - full bodied stogue, with a little kick in the mouth. Very firm when pinched, but never rolled "too" tight. I've yet to pull a plugged one from my box. They cut nicely and usually stay together well. Very nutty with a smooth cocoa finish. Just enough pepper to keep you entertained. Holds a two inch ash if you want it to, and burns like an absolute razor.

For 4 dollars a cigar, this is my goto maduro. Age does mellow them out some, but they will leave your tongue tingling without question. Awesome smoke!!!

"AMAZING value!"
since cuban cigars are too expensive for my budget, i try a lot of cigars from honduras, domincan republic and nicaragua. Yesterday i smoked a AF Don carlos robusto, which was sitting in my humidor for 1 year, and i can tell with absolutely no hesitation, that the el rey del mundo, which is about 2 times cheaper, is way more better! you just cant go wrong with this lovely cigar... well... maybe if you are into very mild cigars, since it a medium bodied cigar.

5 stars!

"Age 'em up!"
This has been in my rotation for years although I prefer this cigar with 3+ years on it. Although I love full bodied smokes it is a bit untamed right out of the box for me. I keep two boxes in rotation so that the one I'm smoking is 3-4 years old. I smoked two over the weekend that are from 2004 and just absolute nubbers. Still full bodies with a tom of character but when this blend ages up it is all flavor and no bite. Tons of smoke and an evolving natural sweetness with a backbone of earth and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. After four years this would still put a novice on their butt, however if you have the space box aging these is extremely rewarding and CHEAP!

"A bit full for my tastes"
This was a "must buy" by all reviews. It was a pretty cigar and I had high hopes. Nice nose of marjoram. Good wrapper on a thick brown stogie.

For a big cigar with a hefty cut, the draw was a bit tight. Initial taste was a little nutty, like bitter filbert. It mellowed somewhat on the finish. Maybe a little deviled egg.

The cigar was very full bodied. A big fat stinky stogie. (I say this with love.) I think I will let them mellow before I try the next one. This was a bit full for my tastes.

"A solid cigar"
Obviously, the ratings show that this is a quality cigar. This has that rich tobacco flavor and characteristic sweetness of a quality maduro. The construction was pretty good; the draw was perfect but the burn was a little uneven and developed a nasty runner that needed to be touched up with the torch. Although the taste ws fairly one-dimensional (sweet tobacco, with a few hints of cocoa) it was an enjoyable one. For the price, it is a quality cigar and it does well with some aging, as I think this one was in my humi for about fourteen months.

"Quiet"
This has become the cigar that I test all others against. For the price the ERDM Robusto oscuro line is simply the best in my opinion. I have other cigars in my rotation, but none seem to best it For even burn the oscuro wrapper excels, and maybe it's the wrapper that also give it the best taste in my humble opinion. I hope the word does not get out on this one.

As I sit here enjoying the second cigar out of my box that has been aging for about 12 months I can honestly say that this is one of the best cigars that I have ever tried. "This may be my next box purchase"
It's been a while since I reviewed one of these, so I figured it was time once again after enjoying one this afternoon. The more I smoke the ERDM RL, the more I allow them to age, the greater my appreciation. The construction is flawless, the burn and draw perfect, they're incredibly oily and dark, they age well, and the flavor is an outstanding full-bodied treat. Leathery and earthy, from start to finish. This, in my opinion, is the best cigar for the buck on the market. Believe the top25review database hype!

"I agree with Scotty"
Got one of these years ago in a maduro sampler. Out of 20 cigars this was one of the 3 best. Just came back to it and it is still right up there. Not as strong as I remember, or maybe I'm more jaded now, but the flavor is still great. Starts out smooth with a little coffee and toasty flavor. After about an inch the intensity picks up - more spice and cedar & earthy-ness. 2nd half the flavor gets more full and rich, but stays smooth and refined. Has a well-aged feel to it. Gave me a buzz, but I'm more used to the 5 x 50 size cigar. Smoked this one to about an inch. That to me says more than anything, it was too good to put down. If I were to compare this to a wine I'd say it is like a nicely aged red Bordeaux.

"Why do I smoke anything else?"
I keep searching for cigars that have wonderful flavor/value ratios with consistency. I have been searching for 7 years now and other than the Gran Habano Corojo Gran Robusto #5, 5 Vegas Series A, CAO Brazilia, Carlos Torano 1959, Rocky Patel Sun Grown, and the Padron Thousand Series, no other cigars measure up to me consistently with regards to flavor and value. Read the wonderful reviews here. There is not much I can add. These are a complete pleasure to smoke. After last night's wonderful experience I must ask myself why do I keep searching for something better when I have already found it? Buy yourself a box, take the tissue off, lay them down for 3-4 months. Enjoy. You will thank me. I guarantee it.

I have been smoking these for 2 years now and they're still my favorite cigar. Always perfect draw (nothing worse than a plugged cigar), visually impressive, and tight white ash. Let me say that I'm almost afraid to write this review because for the price this is a STEAL) (let's hope a trend does not catch on 🙂 I'm not a big fan of cigars wrapped in tissue paper. I must say it's much nicer looking than the traditional cellophane. Pre-light aroma is great, usually I wait and enjoy before I light but some over the previous reviews got me anxioius. Very well constructed. Creamy with nice volume of smoke, hints of wood ,cocoa, coffee. Not overpowering and full flavor. It has a wonderful aroma that complimented the taste. Nice white ash that burned cool until my fingers got in the way.

"suprisingly bright and tasty"
I enjoyed this smoke quite a bit- my first El Rey of many to come.

Beautiful, dark satin sheen to the cigar. I thought I was going to get beat up by the cigar's robust flavor brfore lighting. Pre-light, the constructio nwas great, and I was wowed by how beautiful the wrapper looked

Initially, the burn was a bit uneven. This corrected about 1/3 of the way into the cigar. The uneven burn returned during the last 1/3, but no canoeing or tunneling. The uneven burn was a mere cosmetic event.

Flavorwise, I did not know what to expect. The wrapper was dark and glistening. I was expecting a dark, somber smoke with a major buzz factor. I was surprised at the coffee and caramel I found. A tiny hint of dry grass, not unpleasant at all- would probably do well, as mentioned below, with a while in the humi.

About 1/3 in, I started noticing a beautiful cream and caramel had added to the mix. The grass was all gone. The last 1/2 of the cigar tasted like a double shot latte with maybe a bit of caramel. A delightful after-dinner relaxation in the beautiful late-summer cool evening. I got a slight, pleasant buzz, which I welcomed.

I believe I paid about $5 for this smoke at a local shop as a single. Blew away the Padron I smoked last night.

Great Cigar - I will buy a box and hide them in the back of the humi for a year or so, if I can make myself forget they are there.

"Need Humidor Time ... But Worth The Wait"
I didn't like these when I first tried them. It tasted almost as if I forgot to take the tissue wrapper off (LOL) Now, after about 4-5 years of storage, I was very satisfied. Well constructed, it was rolled tight, almost like a Cuban, but no problems with the draw. A nice, even burn. Even with all this aging, it was still a full bodied brute, with plenty of black pepper at the start. It mellowed out at the 1/4 point, and turned into a delicious, grainy, creamy treat. Hints of cocoa and coffee. Beginner smokers beware, especially if smoked fresh out of the box. With age, they become a very nice smoking experience.

I have lit 12 of these from a box I bought 5 months ago. The first couple were plugged. I figured they were shipped wet. I've tried 2 or 3 a month since then, out of a constant 70% humi. A total of two have not been plugged. It's a disgrace. The two that were smokeable were OK, not remarkable. One dimensional and more mild than I would have expected. I don't like mild. I'll never order from JR's again. His sales blurbs are pure fiction. His shipping rates are way high, and I get better cigars elsewhere. I have no way of telling if the quality of these cigars was JR's fault, but I'm blaming him anyway.

"A great $3.50 cigar."
If you like a "mostly" medium bodied cigar with a slightly sweet straight tobacco base with some notes of coffee and earth, then these should be in your box. I've smoked many of these (first box I ever bought), and you'll run into some minor connstruction issues every fourth cigar or so, but for $3.50 a throw (by the box), these are very solid. Make sure you take the tissue off and give these "gorilla fingers" plenty of box time before firing. They can be a bit grassy tasting if you fire them too soon. Highly reccomended especially with a good scotch.

I was looking for the natural Robusto Larga, but settled for this one. Right off the bat I tasted a very unique sweetness. It was creamy and a touch of floral essence. The ash was a light greay and white, which would reach nearly two inches before it ashed itself. However, the draw was tight and very hot with a tanic acid at the end. I will smoke this again, but really want to test drive the natural.

While not quite as complex as the Robusto Suprema Larga, this one is a close second. Dark and oily with a perfect draw and a thick, white ash. Full-bodied with notes of leather, cedar, and earth. Burned cool up til the last 1/2 inch. Impressive!

"Great Value"
I had one of these last night for the first time. The first half of the smoke was remarkable. I'm not usually a full bodied smoker, but this cigar was really enjoyable until about half way through. After that, I had some trouble with the burn, and it became slightly harsh. Still, I paid $5 at a store, and I know you can get these guys for about $3 on auction sites. Definitely a value.

For $3.00 a stick I was shocked at the quality of this smoke. It has a full flavor and great construction. Smooth from the first pull to the last. Overall, a great looking taskting, and burning smoke. I'd be willing to bet they can sell this in a local shop for upwards of $10 a stick and it would still be a fine value.

Excellent construction and burn. These have a good flavor, however, they are a little harse. I bought a couple 5 packs about 6 months ago and I have been smoking about 1 per month. I have 4 left. "Very smooth and mellow"
For me the robusto larga oscuro is a very smooth and mellow medium-full bodied cigar with an even burn, firm draw and refreshingly clean smoke. It is very smooth and complex with flavors of cream and toast with the initial light-up that progress to flavors of rich espreso coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, cream, chocolate and leather. It has a very firm draw with tight white ash up to the last 2" or so and then it opens up quite a bit. The finish is smooth and refreshing with light floral notes, rich espresso coffee, sweet spices, leather and cream. Definately a keeper for something on the medium bodied spectrum.

This has the characteristics of a winner. The tissue wrapper, great build, even burn, and amazing flavor. They remind me a lot of the CAO Criollo line in taste and look, though they cost significantly less. My hopes go up as they age - if they last that long. As stated by others, these are a fairly stout smoke. Try one (or more), you'll enjoy the experience.

Wow, what a fantastic cigar. Superb construction, excellent draw and a good burn. The flavor was great, spicy with a hint of chocolate (I’m starting to like maduros more and more). This is a full-bodied cigar and with a little aging, it will blow you away. I smoked this down to my fingers, it’s a looong smoke. The price on this is unbelievable. Truly for the connoisseur. "That smells illegal"
Tried one on a whim in a cigar shop; when I lit it a fellow customer remarked, "That smells illegal!" (meaning, Cuban). Mild at first, it soon drew me in. Went back and bought a few more, then five, then a box. Never been a fan of oscuros nor big ring gauges, but this has warmed me to both. Medium, aromatic, plenty of coffee & chocolate, but also some leather, wood and sweetness. Enjoy when you can devote 100% attention to its subtleties.

"Top shelf cigar"
I really liked the appearance and smell of the cigar prior to lighting....after lighting it only got better. Excellent draw and a nice even burn for the first 1/3, after which it actually hit a plugged spot and went out on me. A quick relight and some puffing for ~30 seconds brought it back and I really enjoyed the rest of the cigar to the nub. Great aftertaste. Despite the burn problem I encountered, which happens from time-to-time with any cigar, I am putting this on my list for stocking in the coolerdor.
