"a luscious smoke"
Smoked it on a cold and windy day on the golf course. I loved this stick! Had so much flavor, and not harsh. I am a 'new' smoker, and have become a maduro fan. This double maduro is just full of fun flavors.

"Nice smooth medium cigar"
Beautiful construction, nice aroma, medium taste, not much power, draw a little on the tight side. The cap wanted to unravel, though. All in all, a nice average cigar. What would one call a "vanilla" maduro? That's pretty much what this is. Solid, dependable, consistent but with no depth of flavor. Nowhere near as flavorful as the Punch Double Corona maduros (which are made by the same company, right?) A great golf course cigar. The tissue paper is a novelty. What purpose it serves, I can't say.

"good smooth smoke"
Not as powerful as some others, but for me it is a good level of power and creaminess. Something I could smoke on a regular basis. The construction was better than average and the burn was nice and straight. I would definitely recommend this cigar for someone looking for a medium bodied smoke.

"What a find!"
Found this one in the bottom of the humi after about a year. GOOD cigar. Just a big, smooth, round, sweet maduro. Well made, with a nice burn and ash. I was gifted this one (thanks Vitamin N), but difinitely will purchase more.

"pepper bomb"
Great cigar! Incredible value! Pre-light cigar is an easy, spicy draw. Pepper stayed all the way to about 2" left when I chucked it. Razor straight burn, firm white ash. No bitterness whatsoever. Medium body, medium to full strength. Try this cigar! Toro is next for me.

"A perfect 10"
Absolutely one of the best robustos out there. The taste is full and very nicely sweet. The wrapper is beautiful, dark and oily and very sweet. Perfect draw with loads of smoke. Burn was even all the way through. Finished very nicely with no harshness at all. This is a wonderful cigar.

"A Winner"
For a maduro lover, this cigar looks excellent. Dark, oily and smooth as silk to the touch. Draw was a little tight for my taste, and I say this after smoking 2 boxes, but burn was even and the taste is great, especially after the halfway point. It's definitely made my top 5 robusto list, but if the draw was smoother, it would make my top 2.

"An honest cigar"
I've held off on this review for awhile but a recent (poor) review I posted on yet another knock-off of a famous cuban brand has led me to put in my two cents here. At this point I've smoked a ton of these and the largas. Now I realize that these ratings are subjective and everyone has different tastes BUT... these smokes are the best bang for your buck out there (I've waited awhile to say that). Good looking cigars. Nice and oily. Chock full of spices yet smooth, never harsh. Never had a burn problem. Great draw with good quantities of creamy smoke. The ash is strong and looks good against the cigar (the least of my worries but something to mention). Most the non-cuban counterparts to the "old school cubans" don't even compare, with few exceptions. This cigar on the other hand is BETTER than the cuban. Not to mention all the "boutique" brands out there charging 3x what there worth cuz they slap 'vintage' on the label. Now there's a number of cigars out there that I really enjoy but.... THIS CIGAR AT THIS PRICE is a slam dunk for me. Cheap enough for mowing the lawn and classy enough for a black tie affair. This cigar doesn't pretend... it just is... an all around go to.

"Reaching optimal construction"
18 months ago, I purchased a box of these for my daughter's birth. I gave away all but 5, and tonight I burned one of 3 remaining. 18 months at 69%H worked wonders; the burn was very good, the flavors hinting anice, hickory, and almond. Ash fell cleanly at 1 7/8, proceeded to build again to 1 1/2. Creamy, slightly peppery, but very nice. The only weakness was the cap. I tried to plug cut, and tore through the double caps. They fell off shortly thereafter. Excellent smoke for the price.

"quarterly update: it ain't soup yet..."
Better looking than the stick I reviewed four months ago. Draw is firm but tolerable. Starting to develop some of the complexity I expected. Sweeter now, with more chocolate notes. The core remains earth and black peppercorns (past the first inch, anyway). If you can wait on these and live with some minor inconsistency, these are a worthwhile buy. My "value" score is largely speculative, as I'm confident of their long term upside.

"Very nice"
Read a ton of good things about this cigar and it didnt disappoint. smooth draw, taste of cream and leather, medium bodied, burned very well, nubbed it. hard to find in my local stores, so I bought a box based on all the positive reviews. looking forward to the next.

"Smooth"
I was looking forward to this smoke after receiving my five pack with each wrapped in tissue paper. After unwrapping, a beautiful and very dark smoke. Construction and appearance is excellent. Predraw was inticing waiting for that light. I enjoyed this cigar down to the nub. Full, rich flavor and smooth. No bite at all which was impressive with such good flavor. This one could become a favorite. Will have to smoke the other four before passing judgment but I truly enjoyed it.

"these need time"
A little crude in appearance, with an oily black wrapper and a poorly applied cap. Starts uneventfully, with a little CT Broadleaf sweetness and some trademark Honduran earthiness. The aroma is sharp, astringent. Flavor takes a sudden, agressive turn at the halfway point. No subtlety here; just earthy, peppery power with a dry finish.
In fairness, I expect these to get better, develop a little balance and complexity. I have some older ERDM Flor de Llanezas that have matured beautifully, picking up some sweet cedar and hazelnuts. But these robustos have a long way to go.

"Good but..."
Good yes! great no. to much hype to live up to and it didn't. overall a good cigar but reading the reviews I was expecting a great smoke.
There was tunneling and the wrapper split a little. The taste was very smooth and creamy. overall good but not great. The construction gave me a bad attitude about the cigar.
I will try again after they age a little.

Almost perfect construction. I have smoked five of these over the past few days and one of them started to tunnel. The other four were perfect with a full bodied flavor. It has a longer finish then its lighter brother, but worth the purchase.

"One word - WOW!!!!!"
I just got done my first El Ray Robusto and I am blown away. Everything about this cigar was either perfect or near perfect. Pre-light draw was enticing, burn was slow and even, draw was remarkable, and the flavor....doesn't get much better than this. Flavors of coffee and chocolate ran through my mouth as I smoked it down to one finger. I was getting sad towards the end because I knew it would be over soon. The stick never got hot and I am still savoring it an hour after I finished. The only Cubans that I have had are the Monte #1’s and #4’s. I would put this in that group for an overall enjoyable smoking experience. This will be a must have in my humidor.

"Excellent smoke, though little spicy"
Great cigar especially for $4. Looks great, excellent construction, great burn, draw loose, but nice. Not sweet at all, maybe 'lil young. Definately not a 1-dimentional taste. Would give 9-10 for flavor if there was a little more sweetness to it.

"After 2 years......"
Smoked one after sitting for 2 years and found them to have aged very well. I do think that it had much more strength than the others I smoked 2 years ago. Not so smooth, but very rich and bold. A very good cigar...if you like them full and powerful.

"El Rey Del FLAVOUR"
Hardly elegant & sure, the ash can be sometimes flaky and there is the occassional runner but the flavour is so pleasing I always have some stashed. If you can let them rest they do age well. But as addictive as they are its hard lay them down long. I find myself hiding them in different humi's and trying to forget about them. Delicious

"Disappointing"
Although the burn was smooth and consistent to about 1.5 inches, the dominant maduro flavor was kind of off-tone and mediocre. Similar to the Camacho SLR Roth Maduro...just uninteresting and not worth the money. Get a Torano 1959 instead.

"Best sponge I've ever smoked"
I love the rich, bold, creamy smoke that these produce, but the enire box I have is slightly spongy from the start and looser and looser as I go. By the time they're done if feel like the whole thing is about to unravel and disintegrate in my hand. It's never actually happened, but makes for a less relaxing experience that I would like. I won't stopy buying these yet, but the next box had better me significantly better constructed

"Good, hearty, sturdy maduro."
A very rich, bold taste, while having slightly sweet undertones. I found it to have mild hints of tea and cinnamon(maybe sometimes a acidic/tangy taste-like orange peels) I enjoyed it with Tuaca, on the rocks. I would also recommend Grand Marnier.

"A good smoke a bad burn"
Very dark flavor, like the wrapper, taste started out like tea ending in an earthy, slightly flowery note. very full flavored and well packed. the draw started kind of tight but loosened up a bit. an inconsistancy in filler though gave it a horrible run, and i had trouble keeping it lit, these nuisances kept my experience from being better.

"Rich, Beautiful Flavor"
This cigar was wonderfully smooth and delightful. The cigar tastes rich and creamy. It emanates hints of chocolate and spice. This stick was a pleasure to smoke from beginning to end. The cap unraveled slightly after I was about half way through it, but this was no big deal. For the price, this is the best cigar on the market.

"Outstanding dark maduro cigar..."
This is a top tier Cuban cigar in disguise. Lest not "blow smoke" in your face, so I won't bore you with fancy cigar talk. This is a straighforward cigar, perfect draw, oily dark wrapper, with an incredible aroma and strong maduro taste. Long ashes and smoky. I consider it a full strenght cigar, but it will not overwhelm you due to its sweet flavors and complexity. Full of flavor and better than most cigars I've paid over ten dollars for. Please indulge an treat yourself to one..

A cigar this good at 60 bucks a box, excellent value and strong consistant flavor. Been a go to smoke for over two years. My wife and I always save some space in our cigar budget for these dark beauties. We seldom agree on cigars but these are one of the few exceptions.

The best cigar you are going to get for the money. I put a box in the humi and after two months, they are fantastic already. The flavors have smoothed noticably. Thick, rich, creamy smoke. Mocha/Chocolate flavor becoming more spicey towards the end. Wonderfully consistent from cigar to cigar as well.

"Best Inexpensive Cigar"
wonderful cigar experience. Wrapper was a tad loose when I cut it and it went out once. The good news is that it was smooth as could be and it was like I was smoking a cigar at least double the price. I have not found many good cigars for less than $6 and up that I enjoy. Wonderful experience and a new cigar for my humidor. Highly recommend.

"Tasty anytime treat"
After reading the reviews here and picking up a box from Thompson I was excited to try these. Out of my box 2 have defective wrappers (but I'll smoke em just the same) and all the smokes smell great out of the paper. I've removed all the paper from them so they can get more moisture in the humi. My first spin with one was while flyfishing last weekend. It took about 5 minutes to get through the somewhat harsh beginning but what followed was smooth, mocha maduro taste that I was hoping for. I smoked it down until I could feel the heat on my nose and thoroughly enjoyed it. For the price this is an excellent cigar.

A beautiful cigar! Just finished my first one. General impressions are high. Good construction, lit easily and burned even. Gray/white ash. Passed the spit test. That being I didn't have to spit every 5 mins while smoking it. A little hot and sulphery at the finish. All in all a great cigar!

I picked up a few of these, and I have fallen in love with them. I have since purchased a box. these have a great; burn, draw, construction, and taste. The taste is awesome, It was very tastey coca with a little spice toward the end and lots of thick creamy smoke. and my friends said the smoke smelled like coca and one even said marshmallows (I guess?) did get a little hotter then expected for this ring size. toward the last 2 inches or so. definitely pick up a 5 pack from JR or a few singles from your local tobacconists you will greatly enjoy.
