The cigar was great! The burn was near perfect with one short runner that quickly fixed itself. The ash was firm and held on for a long time. The taste was excelent, fairly strong. The aroma was decent, but not opus x standars.

"ORGASMIC!!!"
I’ve had a few of these, and I must say that this particular cigar was exceptional. Aesthetically, the cigar was flawless. The construction was firm and solid. It had a dark, rich oily wrapper. The cigar had a perfect draw - not too hard, not too soft. The fullness of both the body and flavor compliments each other very well. Not to be bias, this is one of my favorite cigars. It remains to be one of my top five picks in cigars. Price wise, if you know where to "shop,” paying the price is well worth it, I guarantee. This is definitely not for the faint of heart.

"Best Cigar In a long time"
Just tried one last weekend that was given to me as a gift just about a year ago. At the time it was very dry and a little rough on the wrapper from the way it was kept. I carefully rehidrated it in the humidor, gradually bringing it closer to the moisture since I really wanted to try one of these. I was not disappointed one bit. Great smooth cigar that kept me wanting more right until the point of burning my fingers on the nub! My brother in law is going to Cuba this Christmas and this cigar will definitely be the one I get him to bring back for me!

"Relaxation in the form of a cigar"
I recently had the chance to smoke a no. 2 with close to four years of box aging. What a smoke this was! Copious amounts of smoke that just oozed relaxation through creamy notes. There haven't been too many cigars that allowed me to completely let go off the daily crap and just relax, but this was one of those. The ash did not want to fall and was so white that it almost glowed in the dark. The burn was also perfect and required no touch-ups. I had tried a younger version of this size about a year ago and was less than impressed with it. It had some burn problems and lack of flavor. I am quite glad that I decided to give this one another try.

"The consistency is killing me"
Some are among the best I have ever had, some are just ok, some are just downright bad. Get this, all from the same three pack. If you have the opportunity to buy these, stick to the full boxes. Much more consistent. I think they have been overproduced, and due to the cost savings the three packs are the culprit of some inconsistencies in the overall blend. Always a creamy smooth smoke with a little power underlying, but the power of the ligero is sometimes lacking. Stick with the full boxes...hell, do a 4 way split if you have to, but get your hands on some of these to tuck away safely in your humi.

The cigar burns great, but I did have to relight once....I won't hold it against it. The construction is fantastic, with the ash not dropping to the last 1/3rd. "Finally mine are getting good!"
I've always enjoyed the flavor of this cigar but the consistency just isn't there when young. This particular cigar I'm smoking has about a year of age on it and it's the best from this box I've had yet. It lit right up and has burned perfectly. A lot of creamy smoke in a full bodied cigar. The main knock on this cigar is that quality can be spotty and it really needs at least a year of age to come into it's own. I've found a nice alternative to be the Diplomaticos #2 which may not be as complex but still tastes great with better construction and consistency. The Dip may get better with age but it's ready to smoke now.

"One of the Best Cigars"
I have been smoking these cigars for years. But sometime a few years ago the quality of the cigars fell. Even aged they were not as good as the used to be. My recent smokes have been nearly perfect. The cigars have been aged for at least two years and I smoke them in the late afternoon or evening after a meal. The Montecristo #2 is a full bodied cigar with dominant flavors of earth and cedar. It is spicy and this flavor increases down to the finish. The cigar has a rich texture and a perfect draw. It can on occasion burn irregularly but is a joy to smoke. This cigar is a must have in your humidor. Age the cigars if you have the patients for the best smoking experience.

"Simply the best..."
Over the past weekend, after smoking several 2s, I came to the realization as to why I always return to this fine smoke. It's simply the benchmark fine Cuban experience. The box code tells me FEB07, and yet at this young age it doesn't disappoint. The construction was outstanding, the draw perfect, the complexity deep and the taste Cuban creamy. Incredibly, when down to an inch remaining, there was no heat problem even this close to the finish - how do they do that? This figurado will always feel like home, and partaking of it no matter where you are or what libation is in your other hand, makes it memorable...

"3rd time is charm"
One of my generous industry friends, whom I consider the father of my cigar habit, finally turned me on to a #2 that helped me understand what the fuss is all about. Perhaps this is not surprising, but he tells me that among the Monte habanos, there is a good deal of variation in quality- both in terms of construction and tobacco quality. He claims that the very best often make their way to the European markets in London, Paris, and Geneva. Within this context, he presented me with a No.2 from the best box of MCs he has ever had. On top of that, it had been aging in his cabinet for the past 5 years, so I knew that I was in for a treat.

Having had a number of MCs and at least 2 other No.2s before, I was prepared to be disappointed relative to what I knew the market value was for one of these cigars. However, this time I was very pleasantly surprised. Finally the cigar of lore!! I won't go into re-describing all of the flavors and stages, as it has already been said by people with better descriptive skills that mine, but it was unbelievable. Well-balanced, flawless construction and a real pleasure to burn. My only regret was that I did not have a glass of Ron Tacapa 23yo rum to go with it.

If you get a chance to enjoy one of these when all of the elements have come together, savor it! If a friend gives you one he has had socked away for half a decade, then you can be sure that he holds you in high regard. Cheers!

"Second cigar ever!"
Wow, This was my second smoke (the first was the Monte #3) I absolutely loved the flavors I got out of this stick. Lots of cream, coffee, nut flavors, etc. just like the other reviews. I had a problem with the wrapper splitting about 1/4 to 1/3rd of the way through but i licked it a bit and was careful, and it behaved. I was very upset to have to leave it at about the halfway point to deal with a minor emergency. I will definitely be grabbing another one of these for the next time I feel like indulging. As far as this newbie can tell, this was an incredible smoke. It was a gift so I don't know how much it was. From what I've seen it was probable ~$30CDN

Very pricy for a cigar that it beat by numerious none cubans (Litto Gomez Diez, Pardon 1926 aniv., San Cristabol to name a few). If the draw had not been tight this would have been one of the best. Pray you don't get one (in my case two) with draw problems becasue if you don't you will be happy with this cigar.

"One of my Favorite Cubans"
The Monte #2 is one of my favorites. It never lets me down. The draw is excellent and the flavor is full of nuts, spice, leather, and earthly notes. I visited a construction site to provide some safety consulting and the superintendent hooked me up with a #2. He had a humidor in his desk so it was well stored. I smoked it in my garage under my 3-foot tall propane heater and enjoyed ever minute of the smoke.

"A religious experiance"
The Montecristo #2 has always been the cigar that all others are judged and when ever i am out of the country I try to smoke as many as possible, after all of this time they still do it right. The wrapper and construction is flawless. the taste at light up has a citrus with a hint of cedar . as you work in to about the 1/3 the nutty overtones start to make an appearance. halfway a coffee with cream taste comes out. the final third is somewhat of a religious experiance. the coffee, hazelnut, and cedar make you stop everything and just enjoy this true work of art. The nice light ash stays on about a third of the way.

"very nice!"
Working on my 5th box now and I haven't been disappointed yet. There's always a few duds in each box, build wise, that don't wanna burn or draw quite right, but they're usually still smokeable. Great largeish stick to lean back with, providing lots of smooth creamy tobacco flavors with a hint of spicy sweetness in every puff. Rich and med-full bodied, but not overpowering. Recommended for beginners and addicts alike. Enjoy with a smooth single malt on the rocks or big cup of gourmet coffee. Lasts me about 1 hour to 90 mins, depending how I smoke it.

"Best Cigar to be had???"
I think it is the best. Very complex cigar. Nuts, caramel, and a lot of a leathery taste. Lasted almost 2 hours. not a quick smoke but a fine cigar. All others are compared to this one. if you do not like this cigar you should give up smoking. Forget about what they cost. Maybe our Gov. will drop the embargo and the price will come down. Or go up??? I did have a little bit of an uneven burn that was self correcting. It would have been all 10 's had it not been for that.

as stated 220 times b4 me, these are great. they sort of build all the way through. very creamy, leathery at first and then you get smacked with a spice finish. construction is usually flawless. dark and remains very oily even with some aging. i've had the opportunity to age a hand full of these for about 2 1/2 years. they burn straight as an arrrow and loose the un-smokable qualities some are referring to (ie burn problems ect). you need to practice some self control and really give these guys time to age in 70/70. you will not be disapointed.

"WOW! Outstanding"
Started out somewhat leathery, with hints of rich soil and coffee. Evolved into the richest cedar taste I've ever received from a cigar. Minute floral and citrus notes also noticeable throughout. Smooth as a baby's butt, without being bland at all. The draw was luscious, but the burn was a tad uneven, probably due to the fact that I was smoking this baby in a strong wind. I was expecting this to be a mild smoke to my palate (since I consistently smoke full bodied cigars) but the complexity of flavors and solid medium body kept me completely engaged throughout the entire experience. A++ one of the best I've ever tasted and most definitely worth the money.

On a recent trip to Cancun I picked up a couple of these fine cigars. I've had a couple of smaller Cuban Montecristos before. They were pleasant but not anywhere near as pleasant the experience these babies provide! I was most impressed that the flavor was consistent from start to finish...and by finish, I mean, to the fingers. I'm still searching for a non-Cuban that provides the same or better experience. I've come across a few, that for the money, are good but not as good overall...damn it! Anyhow, the search goes on...don't miss an opportunity to try one of these...they're top notch.

LLN SEP04 right out of the box after 7 day journey Possibly the smoothest smoke I have ever had (next to maybe the aged Davidoff Anniversario No 1). Dark oily wrappers. 2 hours of enjoyment. I will say the flavor profile was on the mild/medium side and did not really change at all thoroughout the smoke but that may be due to 7 days of travel at less than optimal temperatures. The most beautiful cigar. The stick I smoked was perfectly made, with the richest dark brown oily wrapper. A joy just to look at. It lit and burnt perfectly. The bellows of smoke reflected tons of flavour and finesse. The cigar was left in the humidor for a good 8 to 10 months before smoking. 05 production. I am aware of some No.2 inconsistencies. "when theyre good..."
Working on my 4th box of these acclaimed figurados and felt it was time to review them. Like everyone says: the good ones are without rival, but it can be a crap shoot finding one. A perfect draw delivering complex, rich flavors of sweet cedar, tobacco, spices and mineral notes balanced out by that Cuban twang and a rich, almost floral aroma that is sweet and full of depth; so complex that you can't quite put a finger on any one aspect of it except to know that its a montecristo is what the fortunate experience while indulging in one of those "good ones". Even the not quite perfect ones will satisfy you and provide a terrific 90 min smoke with some maintenance. Unfortunately, there seems to always be 2 or 3 in every box that are flawed to the point of being unpleasant to smoke, either from a tight draw and a headache with little to no smoke, or a terribly uneven burn delivering hot, acidic tastes and a lopsided, haggard appearance. That said, these are still my favorite smokes and will probably remain so because they are so good when they are good and still very consistently pleasant even when they're not.

I finally got around to finishing my box of #2s stamped Sept 05. At first I wasn't overly impressed with the #2, but upon smoking many other cigars (both Cuban and Dominican) you really begin to appreciate the #2. I have to admit, I received a beautiful box. Nice dark wrappers, somewhere inbetween the colour of a limited edition and regular Monte wrapper. I also did not encounter a poorly constructed stick in the bunch, although one or two had a few little blemishes, they didn't take anything away from the way they smoked. I also experienced no drawing problems. I would describe the flavor of the #2 as exactly what you expect a cigar to taste like. A good amount of tobacco taste mixed with just a touch of earth and burnt sugar. I also found the cigar to be very versatile in that it worked great after meals both light and heavy, aswell as making a great pairing to a glass of scotch (Lagavulin, High land Park, Laphroaig). Overall, an excellent figurado that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

"Why we smoke cigars."
My wife and I had Glenn and his lovely wife Kim over for a steak dinner Friday night. After dinner, over Ginger Brandys, in front of the patio fire, we smoked our "Montys". They were both exceptional (unless Glenn was just being polite). I kept saying during the 2 hour experience, "this is why we smoke cigars". Burn, draw, flavors, were all top notch. The flavors to me were that of a Snickers candy bar. These 2 had been in the box for at least 3 years (sci ron is right on regarding aging). Overall, when these are "on" they are fantastic. The trouble with these is that they are not always "on". Good luck with yours. I'll enter 16.50 for pp$.

"real or fake?"
I have been smoking these babies for many a year and have found the REAL McCoys are pretty consistent. Also note that I keep them in my humidor for at least 1 year before they are lit. The longer they sit in a controlled atmosphere the better they get. I remember my first box of these beauties. Couldn't wait to get the box opened. Well they were green and so was I they tasted terrible couldn't keep them lit etc. Was ready to give them away when a friend suggested letting them age for 6 months WOW what a difference!!! So for those having a bad experience you most likley have cigars that need aging or you just don't have the real McCoy

What a great cigar. I got this thinking, 'what's so special about these cubans'. This cigar was very good. Full flavor, nice constructions, doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth the next day.

"heavenly"
Very supple cigar that lights instantly, and burns voluptiously. I swear the smoke is as fragrant as the cigar tastes. I would characterize it as a mild-medium smoke with immense body: the flavor is elegant, but rich, densem and envelopes your taste buds. A flawless silky draw. Vanilla, cream, and nutty in flavor which develops more to leather towards the end. Be careful with storing/transporting these as the wrapper is very sensitive.

"MC2 revisited"
Box from GKI 2004, only 5 sticks left now. What a great smoke. Smooth draw giving mouthfuls of creamy, flavorful medium bodied smoke. Great aroma. An hour and a half of relaxation and enjoyment. Great cigar, that like most every habanos I have smoked, they have a life of their own. This one can, if you are lucky, smoke thick and rich, full bodied when right out of the box 3 or 4 months from production date, then go dull for awhile and after 2 years from production they blossom back to a mellower, more refinded smoothness. For those newer to the delights of smoking good cigars, you have to learn what you like and to catch your cigars when they are in your "stage". Don't waste them when they are not. Means only one thing: You gotta keep procurring! *These and all habanos have grown more expensive since 2004... (For fuller body try Bolivar Belicoso Finos.)

First of all, this is a very good cigar; extremely well made, I've never had a problem with construction or burn. The flavor is pleasant but I found it to be quite mild, even after aging for 2.5 yrs. Smoked 3 of them spaced widely apart, and though it was as smooth as soft butter, I prefer Punch Punch.

I was well aware of the inconsistency issues with this cigar, so I was not completely surprised when this one turned out to be dull. If I hadn't bought it at a La Casa De Habanos, I would have thought it was a fake. It had none of the distinct Habano flavors that lets you know it's genuine. It was very mild and had general tobacco flavors with faint notes of spices here and there, but really low-key overall. The draw was also noticeably tight, which really capped off the whole experience quite nicely. I have an Edmundo and a #4 in left my humidor right now and I really hope they prove to be better than this stick did!

Wow, what a good cigar. 8 years in the humidor, and it has mellowed into a medium body, creamy smooth treat. A complexity of flavors. "Bakery type" spice traits of cinnamon and nutmeg. Hints of nuts, bread dough, coffee and cocoa. Absolutely in the top 10 best cigars I have ever smoked, probably in the top 5. I've had a few cigars here and there, but on vacation, I bought 15 of these in Cabo San Lucas on a recommendation from a friend. Handed out one to all the men my wedding party and fired them up. What a smoke. Beautiful stick. Lots of smoke, very creamy. A little strong. I had been drinking tequila all week with no ill effects, and I thought this smoke may push me over the edge, but by the time I got to the nub I wanted more. When we got back to the states, I proceeded to purchase a humidor and begin a new hobby.

"Great Expectations"
I have only smoked one of these to date and I tried hard to approach it objectively. But "everyone knows" this is a great cigar and an expectation that strong tends to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I wonder what I would have thought in a blinded test? That said, the cigar has a nice appearance with a rather strong pre-light aroma. The one I smoked was well constructed, maybe a little tight on the draw. The flavor was medium in strength, slightly spicy, with overall a very nice taste of (surprise) tobacco. I enjoyed the smoke but really found it hard to be objective about the experience.

"Had to splurge on a box"
This cigar came from a SEP05 box, which I recently purchased via Hong Kong. It was a very nice looking stick, but not exquisite. Construction was suprisingly good, despite the horror stories I had heard about recent batches of Monte #2's. Prelight it had a very sweet aroma, almost nauseatingly so. The smoke starts out great from the first puff. I normally don't enjoy most cigars until several draws in, but this was tasty right from the get-go. I immediately noticed the richness of the thick smoke -- richness that only comes from top-notch tobacco. I haven't smoked many Cubans, but the first 3rd of this one tasted a lot like a H. Upmann(Cuba) Lonsdale I had a few weeks back--very mild, creamy, and smooth. If I had to pick a weakness of this cigar, it would be the middle third, where the experience seemed to stall a bit, before picking up steam for the spicy finish. Overall, this cigar makes it into my top 5 easily, especially at the price I got them. US$231 for a box of 25! This one was great out of the box but I can't wait to see how well the other 24 age!

"My first Monte 2"
This is my first Monte and the cigar is just beautiful. The aroma was pleasantly reminding me of a slight leathery scent. The pre-light draw was a tad tight but still very workable. Lighting the foot was unremarkable. The cigar settled nicely after a few puffs. The draw was flat with a cocoa finish. It really never changed and I must admit I was disappointed. I threw away the cigar with more than a third left.

I hope a little rest will change this for the short term satisfaction with the rest of the box destined for a year or more aging for long term bliss.

Anyone else have this experience? I don't have the box code handy otherwise. I'll post it. I think its Oct 05 but don't quoute me.

My new favorite, now I know what all the fuss was about. I've smoked 3, with only one having a slightly tight draw (which I adjusted easily). Slow, even burn with lots of aromatic smoke. Medium-full bodied and seductively rich, this complex titan started with notes of leather and earth, followed by a spike of nuttiness and cedar. There's ALOT going on here, superb flavor. Finish was just sooooo perfect, not too hot as I brought the ash to the last 1/2-inch.

Worth every dollar, this has the best flavor I've experienced, even surpassing the awesome Padron Anni's. THIS CIGAR WILL BE EVEN BETTER WITH ABOUT 6 MONTHS OF AGING.

Maybe it's not the best cuban around, maybe some products from Padron are even better, but the #2 is a fully rounded up smoke, strong, flavourful, smooth. Comustion ring was perfect but at the very end, draw was a bit tight but pleasingly so. All in all a great smoke, and unlikely to deceive. Price is not an issue.

It seems years since I've had a Montecristo No. 2 with the flavors and construction that I'd come used to enjoying. I purchased 15 of these lovely shaped and shaded cigars last fall. After a little aging and with eager anticipation I sat down to enjoy a Monte No. 2. The flavors were dull, the burn uneven and wrapper was coming undone in places. Every one of the following seven Monte No. 2s I smoked over the next few months were similarly disappointing - leaving me thoroughly underwhelmed. "Inconsistent..."
Make sure when you buy these....i mean invest in these...you see what you are getting. I smoked one out of a top notch Toronto Cigar Shop and it was the best cigar I have ever smoked. Chocolately, rich, yummy. Yet not sweet. Definitely full flavored yet subtle and cool. The wrapper was shiny and oily and nice.

The box I bought was crap. I wasted a lot of money on spent Monty's. Sometimes the chocolate comes through but most of my wrappers, even after 3 years in the box, just won't get oily and nice.

If it's oily and smells strong buy it. If not... don't. I made a big mistake in thinking these babies would come around in the humidor. Don't you.

I will rank based upon an average of my Monty's smoked so far.

overrated in my opinion...this not at all a bad cigar yet there are better ones out there, like the Vegas Robaina Unicos, Hoyo de Monterrey DC and the Diplomaticos #2 (which are the finest in the world) and many, many, non-Cubans. Living in Europe I have unrestricted access to Cubans but non-Cubans are getting better and better.
Anyway, the construction, flavor, burn and ash will never mach a Leon Gimenes Sumo toro, a Cupido churchill, a Padron 6000 torpedo or a Hoyo Seleccion del'Arte Iglesias, to mention only a few....

I'm obviously in the minority here, but I don't care for Monte #2's. After smoking many of them from different boxes, I've concluded that they are all hype. I don't taste cocoa, honey, nuts, vanilla, or any of the other flavors the other reviewers think they are tasting. I just get a flat, unimpressive, tobacco flavor. It's not that they are bad cigars, just that they are not anywhere near the gangbuster that everyone else thinks they are (to me). $10 for one of these versus $2.50 for a CAO Brazilia is a no-brainer in my book. Different strokes for different folks.

GKI OCT04 Montecristo No. 2 - Even this young, there is little if any bitterness or "green" flavor. Now the true flavors of this vitola are not yet shining through, but with age these cigars will be just amazing examples of what the finest Habanos are capable of. The roll is perfect, the wrappers deep rich, oily brown. Already the smoke is smooth as silk and slightly creamy. My aim is to smoke one of these every two months. If I can hold out, I am in for a real treat. **This review is based, as I think all reveiws should be, on how the cigar is NOW, not how it is anticipated to be.

"ISOM Expectations"
This stick was a gift from a CBID member. I should have let it sit in the humidor awhile, but I couldn't wait. I was not disappointed, not in the least. The flavor was all that anyone would expect from an excellent cigar. The construction was outstanding, the draw was extremely smooth, and the burn was razor sharp. If I can figure out where to get these I would buy them in an instant.

"great smoke"
Now this is what a Monte#2 should taste like, bought 1/2 a box (JULY04) last year and smoked one immediately, but it was too young and flat, 8 months in the humidor really improved it. Burn was perfect, only 1 touch up needed, grey ash held tight, and the flavor really delivered. Bittersweet chocolate / cedar / and that Monte "twang" all rolled into a nice medium body. Now if I can just let the rest of these babies sit for another year they could become classic.

Started off smooth and never got harsh, lots of flavors present. Did suffer a little uneveness in the burn, I read they make so many sometimes they do have a little problem with the construction, that's the only ding, great stick! A must have in any humidor.

"a classic"
while no expert, i have probably smoked well over 100 of these cigars. it has made a believer out of me. i now prefer the montecristo brand to all others( have tried about 7 cuban brands, not all yet). yes you will encounter some variation in quality. but when you get a really good MC #2 it is a premier cigar experience. the cigar is very strong, not suitable for beginning smokers. while i love the MC A and adore the MC DC LE, i would still consider this my personal favorite and the standard by which all other cigars are measured in my book. watch out for counterfeits, this is probably the most faked cigar on the planet.

"Just Gets Better"
My box is from Feb.02, I'm down to 7 sticks and really have to say that Montecristo is one of the most flavorful and balanced blends from Cuba. The flavors and nuances are many building in strength as you enjoy, but never losing it's balance. My latest sample is 3 years old. It smoked like a champ. Just one touch up needed to burn all the way to the nub. Quality has been greatly improved in the last year or so. A must smoke Vitola for any cigar lover, that will always be a true Cuban legend.

I can't taut this amazing cigar enough.....what a smoking experience! although, you will find a sub par one on occasion because of cuba's quality control issues in recent years. Nonetheless, when you get a good one the burn, flavor, and aroma are quite simply.....superb! period

"A little bit of heaven"
Just bought 10 of these from Cigar One - A special deal for a box from 2001 (Box Code PEL MAR 01).

Having smoked Cohiba Siglo VI, Punch Churchills and Montecristo Edmundos for the last few months the No.2 had some competition.

But, what a delight. I know that as a 2001 stick that has been properly kept I am probably not comparing like with like. But I must say, that in my opinion it was superior to all the above.

A sweet, nutty flavour and a great head of smoke... just the way I like it. I also like consistency. I think that cigers that change their character through there burn are overrated. I like the taste to mellow, but not radically change and the No 2 was very consistent.

A smoke of a good hour and a bit.

Lovely!

"Here we go again"
I wrote a review last month based upon cigars I smoked several years ago. Just got a box in Vienna, Austria, produced in 2004. Have smoked three so far. The first one was a disappointment; same problems as before. Extremely tight draw that allowed no flavor, was too much work, and therefore gave no pleasure. The second and third ones, however, reminded me why I loved these cigars in the first place (you tend to remember the good ones and not the bad ones). Unbelieveable complex, unique flavors. The finish is amazing - lingers ever so gently. Great draw with lots of smoke. One of the best ever. Really, this is what a cigar is supposed to be like. So I felt my first review did not do this stick justice. So you know the drawbacks (pun intended!). If you buy a single give it a very light squeeze all over first to confirm the construction, i.e., that its not too tightly rolled. If you buy a box, be prepared to accept that a few (you hope!) will be tossed aside owing to quality control. Once you cut one, test the draw. If its very tight, just toss it and go on to the next one...its not worth the frustration..yeah, I know it hurts. Just means you are essentially paying for a box of 20 not 25!

For being so young I was amazed at the complexity and quality of this cigar. The date on the box is Nov. 04, so only two months aging. Ash, burn, and draw were flawless, and the aroma and taste were so perfectly Cuban. I was not expecting such a high rating but man did they deliver. I can only image what these will do with age.

This was a pretty good cigar but not a great cigar. I have smoked a few Cubans and this was probably the best, but take away the word "Cuban" and all you have is a pretty good cigar--nothing more. One can find a fair amount of cigars just as good and better--legally--and at a better price. As I sit smoking my Padron, I have to say, these are what I crave.

"Patience"
There is a common theme to most of these reviews. Allowing your cigars to sit in the humidor for one to two years will significantly improve their quality. The samples from my box of Monte #2's (box date Jun 03) prove this theory correct again. The first few I smoked from late '03 to early '04 were just okay. The two I have smoked since October '04 have been fabulous. Complexity of flavor, burn and draw have all improved noticeably. Do not get greedy, let them sit for at least eight months. You will not be disapointed if you have the patience required to stare, but not touch.

Just open a new box and it looked a little darker and a little rougher than last one. Both JUN 04 but different factory codes. But it did not matter, as it was true to form. The middle third was particularly outstanding. Started a little harsh, probably due to its youth, but quickly settled down. Nice thick smoke: nutty, creamy, coffee, some spice. A complex smoke with great construction and burn.

Just bought a box and have tried two, both within weeks of acquiring them. Both were well made, drew well, had good smoke and nice, easy, creamy, mild flavor. I'm guessing these will evolve with humidor time based on reviews I've read. Certainly there were no off flavors nor harshness, and I smoked both to the nub. So far though I would say the boli pc's are more enjoyable at this stage.

"My First Cuban"
I had my very first Cuban this past weekend and it was a treat. This cigar starts off pretty mild and gradually builds some strength. The smoke was a wonderful smell that billowed into little clouds above me. The draw was a little on the tight side but the ash was razor sharp. Even when smoking down passed the one inch mark, it still had a perfect razor straight ash. After starting out super mild, the cigar became mild-medium and incredibly smooth. The end had distinct spicy notes with a wonderful creaminess. Overall, a very enjoyable experience with the least amount of aftertaste I have ever had with any cigar- my wife thanks you Monte!

This was my first Cuban cigar and I must say I was extremely disappointed. This cigar was a hard draw which indicates its youth and reminded me of a non-cuban cigar I had recently..(name escapes me)..I will be searching for it to make the comparison. "#2 is #1"
I smoked this stick in Cancun, on a balcony of an oceanfront condo. Even with a steady 20 mph wind, the burn was even and steady throughout. Although the aroma and flavor were outstanding, the most impressive characteristic of the #2 is the wrapper. The slightly oily finish gave this cigar an optimal feel and taste. Only problem I detected was a slight harshness at the 2/3 mark. Best cigar I've smoked...even better than the H Upmann version. Highly recommend!!!

all I can say about this cigar is WOW! I didn't want this to end, it had a nice draw smooth chocolatey and creamy flavor, just be careful because it will have you reeling towards the end if your not ready for it, wonderful cigar can't wait for my next one.

"Sublime..."
Bought 2 boxes directly from the Romeo y Julieta factory in Havana in October, 2003. All had dark, oily wrappers - very handsome cigars. Aroma (unlit), like the flavor is heavenly. Flavor of the first few were amazing, starting with medium complexity and developing into a complex, full bodied smoke full of cream, coffee and chocolates. Simply put, they are sublime. Can't imagine what they will taste like if (when) they improve with age!!

"Still one of the best"
The new Montey 2's I got have different bands.
Instead of the old opaque band, the new band is glossy and the fleur-de-lis looks like the one on a N.O. Saints' helmet. Convinced at first these were fake, I checked out the smoke. Right length, guage and very firm. Had that familiar pungent aroma. Lit it up and knew it was the genuine article. Full, rich and long lasting, still one of the best. These were, in fact, some of the best yet! ( Some ISOM sites are now addressing the band changes and confirming that they are for real).

The Cuban Montecristo #2 is very definitely the KING OF CIGARS. Taste, draw, and construction are just perfect. The box I purchased had a box code date of 2/02. I couldn't stop smoking them. They are that good. Don't get fooled by the non-Cuban Monte's. They aren't even close.

A grab you by the collar and smack you in the face until you cry for mama powerhouse. Started out brutally strong, acrid and sharp. Mellowed only slightly as it burned. One of my favoritve sizes of one of the top cigars. Full bodied and even of wood and earth with just a pinch of tartness (it was a very fresh box, should round out after a tour in the humidor). "The Best of the Best"
I got lucky during a business trip to Nashville. During a shopping spree at a mall next to the Conference center, I noticed a small kiosk that had a few good brands of cigars. It was funny. Here I'm looking for Opus Xs which I heard were easily found in Nashville and all of a sudden, the proprietor shows me two boxes (5 each) of Cuban No 2s. One box was counterfeit, the other the "real thing." Guess which one I bought? This cigar by far was the best thrill I ever experienced when it came to cigar. I found the No. 2 quite strong! With a wrapper that was a little on the dry side. However, the taste, which was complex at best, was so alluring that I couldn't define it if I tried. All I know, that it satisfied every possible fantasy I ever had in smoking a "real" Cubano. What was funny, was that I was smoking it outside of a first rate hotel in Nashville. One of the attendants outside of the lobby "stated," he had just smelled the best cigar in his life. I just laughed. Got four more, which I will only smoke during special occasions.

This box was only 6 months old by the box code. Taht being said i gave one a try before putting them into "deep sleep" for awhile. They show quite a bit of promise although still raw. Much better than the couple boxes I have from a few years back. As much promise as this box shows, I still think the Monte #2 has seen better days.

"A true benchmark torpedo"
Silky, golden-brown cigar with hints of leather, pepper and wood and alluring aroma. The cigar started off with a peppery spicy kick, typical of the Monte No. 2. After the first ¼", the intensity of the pepper faded a bit and the smoke took on a sweet\sour like flavor, while maintaining its spice, but without harshness. Medium to full bodied. This one came from the box of Aug. 2001 and each cigar keeps getting better with aging.

"I've seen better examples"
I have seen much better examples of the Monte #2. This guy was from 1998, and was very dry and grassy. Not the rich taste I am used to from the Monte #2. I'll chalk this up to 1998 being a bad year for Cuban cigars, as they were pumping up volume in exchange for quality.
