"Millions of cigar buyers can't be wrong..."
If this is, as they say, the best selling cigar in the world there MUST be a reason. And there definitely is, the # 4 is close to a perfect cigar, smooth AND flavourful (oh, that unmistakable cuban flavour mix), well built (yes, yes..), the size is just right for a good but not overly long smoke. To me, great value too, but I live in Europe, where everything is way more expensive....

"Inconsistent"
My friend bought a 10-pack of these in Canada. Didn't age, had to smoke all over the weekend. Not much more can be said about the flavor than what was already said. Tons of aroma and flavor for such a small cigar, very woody. I've smoked other Cubans, but this is the one that made me believe in the Cuban hype.
However, 4 out of the 10 cigars were severly plugged. No matter what I tried, rolling them gently, poking holes at the head, or even pulling out tobacco, they would not loosen up. The other 6 were perfect. All cigars, plugged or not, had a perfect burn and kept silvery white ash. Wrapper never tore or broke. Would like to see more consistency, but otherwise a terrific smoke.

This was my first Cuban, since I have had many others. I still find myself coming back to the delightful taste of the #4. If you are going to start smoking Cubans, chances are that it will be through this cigar. The highest selling Havana in the world offers reliability, excellent construction and an interesting balance of power and flavor. Damp earth and wood dominate this easy smoke, that can be sampled at any time of the day.Ideal for beginners!

"A Gifted Stick"
This was a gift from my buddy back on New Years. So it had a good nine month gestation. Appearance was OK. The wrapper was a little cracked and had a couple of odd green spots on it, I guess like Boston Dude was seeing. Not mold, more like the tobacco hadn’t cured out completely, like candela spots. Shoot I don’t know. Maybe it was mold. But the flavor was just fine. Smooth Cuban delight. Paired it up with a port and went out in the dark to watch from a distance my crazy neighbor do his strange night jobs around his yard. But that’s a whole ‘nother story.

"OK"
Construction was above average. Only gripe was part of wrapper showed a somewhat green wrapper still in color. Burn was consistent and draw excellent. Taste was mostly straightfwd coffee, leathery notes. Not much of the twang I had hoped for. My stick was an '06 one so still young. Reminded me of a Padron K series, but not as good unfortunately. Will have to try again.

The #4 is made in several factories; so you if you buy several boxes a year (as I do), you will find differences in quality (and taste). The box I am smoking now from Villa Clara, is the real thing and quite the princely and attractive short smoke. Earthy with the distinctive Montecristo aroma. Well made.

"Tighter than a ..."
I'm always wary of extremely good or bad reviews, but here goes; this is my third from a box from 05 bought at FRA duty free. All samples from this box have been unsmokeable, packed so tightly that I gave up after less than an inch. On this last one I tried jamming a bamboo skewer through its entire length. Worked fine for the first puff. After repeating this procedure twice more I gave up yet again. The few times I got some smoke from them the flavour was very nice. What a waste. I bought them for when I wanted something quicker than the full-on two hour #2 experience, but no dice. Think I will stick to the bigger sizes of this brand in future. Will now torch a Partagas Mille Fleurs to ease the pain.

Excellent petit corona. Wrapper had a beautiful shine to it, oily, I know I'm in for a flavorful smoke. Had to relight a few times, I find that typical with Cubans, but that did not take away from the overall enjoyment. For a small cigar very full bodied. Recommended.

I have a bone to pick after smoking many a Monte no. 4. The cigars are just inconsistent. I've had tight draws, lots of burn corrections, and mediocre smokes.
On the other hand I've had a few that will delightful little after lunch smokes with bits of cocoa even a hint of chocolate in what is a delightful petit corona.
I don't smoke them much anymore, as they just don't have their quality control in hand for this cigar.

I have smoked these on and off for a while and they are truely a good little cigar. This last one I decided to give a review. The draw was a little tight witch I find common with the #4s and the burn a little uneven other than that they are a very good smoke and have a very good flavour to them, kind of sweet chocolate with a little leather in there. They consistantly look very good and they are well constucted.I usually have a handfull in the humidor and dont have a problem with handing them out to friends that want to try a cigar.Very good value for the money.

A very well balanced little corona with some complexity to keep things interesting -- tangy in the upper register, earthy in the lower, with some bean flavors and a dash of pepper to keep things moving along. A little tight on the draw, but that's my only criticism. I could smoke these all day long and not get tired of em.

"Steve Tyler's Favorite"
This is Aerosmith's Steve Tyler's favorite cigar according to a C.A. article about 4 years ago. I recall the article because he provides advice about how to smoke a cigar correctly. He advises people when smoking a cigar (especially Cuban cigars) to exhale through the nose in order to experience the full flavor and potential of a good cigar. I was one of those guys that just sucked in the smoke and kept it in my mouth but when I read this article I happened to have a box of Monte #4's. I smoked them per Steve Tyler and WOW what a difference! The #4's are great cigars. They have a peppery and spicy taste with medium to full bodied aroma. Thanks for the advice, Steve!

"Good times!!!"
I've been addicted to the pleasures of cigars for about a year now. Can't stop smoking 'em, buying 'em and reading about 'em. Let me start off with a trajedy on par with Bill Shakespeare. My very first Cuban was a Cohiba that a girl bought me on a cruise (musta cost her a pretty penny). I thanked her and proceeded to place it on my desk. There it sat for 7 or 8 months...collecting dust. Until it finally got knocked off and the wrapper busted right off. (That was one way to get the dust off). Well, I may be dumb but I'm not just gonna throw away a Cuban without seeing what all the hubub is about. I lit it up, took a few puffs, and chucked it in the toilet...MY GOD this thing tastes like crap (or...like it had been sitting on a desk collecting dust for almost a year). Having some friends that always talked about their cigars, I told 'em..."yea, I smoked a Cuban and gotta tell ya...not all that impressed". I KNOW! Since then I've seen the light (and bought a few humidors). This little pc was my second experience. MUCH BETTER! I smoked it after eating lunch on the Upper Gauley in WV. A class 5 white water rapids (I had it triple protected). Anyone who doesn't believe there's psychology that goes with your mood and anticipation is just blowin' smoke. The cigar did have an uneven burn the 1st 3rd, but self-corrected. Nice draw. This is a mild-med gar. Not a firm ash, but okay...and it was more black than white. Consistent throughout with some spice and a "grassiness" that I had a hard time putting my finger on, other than this must be the 'Cuban' flavor that makes them unique. I thoroughly enjoyed this given my anticipation and my setting. Don't think I'd spend the $$$ it takes an American to get a box...but, I definitely recommend for special occassions.

Not a lot more to say other than what's been said. One of the best PCs out there (probably the best medium-full). Like any of the high volume sticks you'll bet a nasty one in a batch and like any PC it can get hot and bitter when its close to your fingers. If you want something more different then buy somthing different. Depending on your taste these are second to none for what they are.

"Nice"
This was a good cigar. It had a refined flavor yet was not generic or boring. I didn't pick up on a lot of complex nuances as my focus was consumed by trying to keep the stick lit, but a nice cashew flavor was present during the middle section of the smoke. In short, worth trying, especially at $7.00.

"Now I know why"
Like most other say, when this stick is on, you will know why this is the #1 selling Havana. Unfortunatly, there are a few bad ones in the bunch. Seems these get caught up in the numbers crunch and quality suffers. Recently smoked about 5 from late 2004 box as a 06/06 revisado and are very good. I wish the finish was as good as the first half is my only true complaint.

"When it's good, it's the best petit corona"
The #4 is made all over the Island. Cuba makes a gazillion of them. but, if you get a good box, and age it two years, the #4 is the classic delicious petit corona. Once the plume appears, the cigar is ready. Spicy and complex, no one outside of Cuba can make a petit corona in it league.

"Hot n Cold"
I have been smoking these for maybe ten years now and there seems no rhyme or reason to when you will pull a 9 or a 6 out of the box. Last night it was a 9 - great flavor, nice draw, a wonderful cigar. Two weeks before it was a 6 with tight draw and no flavor which had me wondering why I even get these sometimes... Age does often help these. But, I find it far better to get other smokes for less money that are far more consistent- I will name two, same ones as usual for me because they are just so damn consistent: La Aroma de Cuba Corona Minor and Partagas Petite Corona Especiales.

I apparently got the twin of the smoke "scorb" describes below. Very tight draw and I had to relight 3! times. Unacceptable for a Monte, let alone a Cuban one. Took a long time for me to get my hands on one of these and I am not disappointed. I rested it for a month because it had been kept in a ziplok bag for a couple of weeks before I received it. Very full bodied, more than expected. Peppered wood, toast and a hint of spicy sweetness to begin. A great buzz started just before half way. The flavors I described are not as prominent as hoped but, the strength is great. A little harshness at the halfway point and the burn is perfect. Draw is ample and easy offering plenty of smoke with each puff. Wrapper is beautiful pecan color and the roll is slightly firm with a lumpy barrel. I am very pleased with the MC4 overall, mostly because I know I can get equally good cigars without spending a fortune or leaving the country. don't get me wrong Cubans are great but, hey Castro don't look back because the expatriates are catching up fast.

BMT DIC04.
It was a nice looking cigar with a caramel color and an easy pre-light draw. After just a few puffs, I could tell this cigar was young. It tasted just a slight bit grassy, though much of that disappeared as the smoke progressed. Early on there were hints of sweetness, as the burn stayed pretty much razor sharp. 1/3 of the way through I started to get some of that familar spice, but it varied often. Held the ash til well after the 1/2 way point, and had some outstanding expresso flavor through much of the stick. A nice draw and lots of smoke, I think all this cigar needs is a little more age to be a great cigar rather than just a good one.

Maybe this cigar varies widely depending upon which market it is purchased in? I have just finished a box from 2003 production purchased in Cuba (not by me) and these cigars were smoking beautifully, nice creamy flavors of coffee and who the hell knows what else - just a damn nice 45+ minute smoke. I think it is important when one reviews cigars to review each on its own merits. For example, in comparison to other Petite Corona's in this case and not compared to a MC No. 2 or any other vitola... When I note my feelings about this cigar, it is with others in mind like a San Cristobal el Principe or Partagas Shorts or Petite Coronas Especiales or Bolivar Petite Corornas.... My MC No 4s have been great cigars! **Still you have to try the La Aroma de Cuba Dominican Corona Minor if you like PCs.....

Strange enough, I never smoked a MC 4 before. Too popular, maybe, as I am on the snob side. That said, when a friend said she was going to Spain, as I was short of little cigars, I asked her to buy me a box of MC4 in a Spanish Airport, where thay are positively cheaper. I have to say that I do not regret it. Although obviously less rich than an MC2, or too small to be as engaging as an Edmundo, I have found the MC4 a very good and flavourful, in a pretty typical MC way, more than good for a short and pleasant smoke. "Solid"
A straight-up tobacco taste with a little high end punch. Draw was great but it went out on me a few times and burned a bit unevenly. Gave up lots of smoke.

"Overrated"
It's the highest selling Havana (yep, even more than the #2) in the world so I figured I see what all the buzz was about. Good smoke but definately not in league with the prize fighters like Partagas (Cuba), Padron, and Ashton VSG. Construction and burn were both very good as the cigar never really got hot till the red ring was a 1/2 inch from my lips! Flavor was medium bodied with a few notes of leather here and there, but overall on the bland side without any real character that took hold of you. I shouldn't have gotten a box of these, I wish I had tried the #2's instead.

"Gorgeous looks, great smoke"
I haven't smoked many Cubans, but this Monte #4 was a wonderful experience. This is a great size for me and this cigar is almost too beautiful to burn, so I just savored the appearance for a while. When I finally put a flame to it, it started out with an intense spice and pepper flavor that drifted in and out for about the first third. From halfway to the nub, the spice was replaced by a chocolate flavor that flowed in and out. Overall, a medium-bodied but very smooth smoke, potent enough to get my head spinning a little. It only ashed twice, and the white-gray ash looked like a column of marble, as gorgeous after it was consumed as when it began.

"value cigar"
Some puffs of brilliance, some were unpleasant. Great construction, but I didn't agree with the flavor. Every once in a while, a bit of sulfer was noticed. Otherwise a good complex cigar with spicy overtones and a bit of nuttiness in the first half followed by some sweetness in the second.

"Spicy powerhouse"
A great little cigar. I wish I could afford spoke these all the time. I would give up cigarettes.
Taste. draw. and construction are the best. You could never go wrong with this Cuban baby.

"Not many better than this"
Spicy for the 1ST 1/2, then it mellows into a smooth cocoa, twangy, earthy complex smoke. I am just now smoking the 2ND of a box from 2000, and I get the feeling these age extremely well. Excellent construction, oily appearance and burns razor sharp. A must have for Havanaphiles, and a must try for any serious cigar smoker.

"Montecristo No. 4"
From a packet of 5. Uniform medium brown colour, firm & well constructed. Good draw & the medium flavours & spicy aromas gets better & better as you smoke it, with a smooth taste of bitter chocolate. Slightly bitter aftertaste. An excellent cigar to quietly indulge in.

Stumbled upon this by accident. A very firm cigar, I thought I could break a window with it. Acceptable draw, held together really well, lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. Spectacular taste. Very Impressive little guy.

"Good Monte Intro"
Smoked 2003-03. Smooth, medium dark reddish brown wrapper with slight oiliness. Good draw except for one minor plug. Somewhat loose ash. Notions of wood and baking spices as well as a touch of sweetness. Dries toward the finish. A nice little hint of what the larger Montecristos have to offer.

"Un-4-gettable"
Montecristo never disapoints me. Everytime i try a different size of Monte's it seems to get better. No. 4 is no exception. The shade of these babies were a nice brown sheen and a medium bodied cigar. This cigar is best smoked in the aftnoon!

"Not bad for the price"
Good construction on this corona. The triple cap was neat and tight. The draw was a bit snug, but well within acceptable parameters. The flavor was rather one dimensional. Dry and papery with a short bitter finish.

"Monte 4"
Got this one at the Ritz Carlton in China had already about a years box age. WOW this is hands down one of the strongest smokes I have had ever had! This little puppy almost but me on my behind. Nice dark brown wrapper devoid of any oils. Very good draw lots of flavor but just too overpowering. Very spicy and instense.
