"A good cigar"
but not great. This is a solid cigar, with good construction, I can't deny it that. The flavor is very spicy, with an almost overly aggressive spice at the beginning. The cigar settled down a bit for the remainder. Unfortunately the taste and odor hung around for an inordinate amount of time...and was not pleasant. A good cigar, but in my opinion doesn't even compare with the Don Carlos line from Fuente.

good looking cigar...one bit on the wrapper a bit off. Draw very good...first 1/2 inch great cigar very tastey and full bodied. At around one inch bad burn! Flavour dropped off to average dominican flavour profile...not very good! once the burn evened out

I probably made a mistake by smoking this first thing in the morning. What a great flavorful cigar that has a fantastic oily wrapper. From the first light, the cigar pulled great. It had that taste of leather, but also very fruity notes that were left on the palette. I never run into these sticks for MSRP, but if I do, I will buy these in droves!

Loved the cigar. Wrapper had a great cherry flavor to me. Nice burn, white ash, very tastey. Leally enjoyed the cigar so much that I got a box of 42.

"Damn"
Been a while since I smoked an Opus. My last couple experiences were less than stellar. The good news: This one had better flavor than the last couple, although nothing with the complexity I got from much earlier Opus. The bad news: This was the first Fuente I have smoked with construction problems. Fuente means "perfect construction" to me, but this cigar had a tight draw through much of it, and began to unravel towards the end, despite being humidified properly. Not what I would expect from a $12+ Fuente. Add the fact that the cigar was pretty one-dimensional, despite having decent flavor, and it has done nothing to change my mind about Opus at this point.

Great cigar . i smoked it as soon as it arrived...but so is an AVO XO at 8 bucks a stick... catch my drift
The smoke started off hot, burned my toung and numbed my lips..tones of coffie, cocoa in and out all the way to the last 1/2 inch, had to puter down after that

A beautiful little torpedo with a great wrapper. Draw and burn were ideal. Strong flavor profile including pepper, leather, earth and cream. What a long spicey finish! I loved this 30 minute smoke. Just a great, strong high quality cigar

"Overrated"
This cigar was good, yes; but certainly not what I've come to expect with the Opus X reputation. The draw was good but not great. Very well constructed, however. The taste was a bit spicy and a bit sweet as well which made for great complexity of flavor. But overall, this cigar is nothing special for the exorbitant price. I had the Fuente Fuente X several years ago and as I recall it was not spectacular either. The only conclusion I can make is that this line is way too overhyped and overrated.

This was one of the best smokes I've had in a long time. After a couple years aging I thought it was still quite strong but never harsh. At about 3/4 way thru, I started seeing stars spinning all around. The flavor was Exceptional.

"Finally a decent one!"
Over the years I have lost my taste and appreciation for all things Fuente, however this cigar really impressed me with it's flavor. It was very smooth and enjoyable, produced a nice amount of smoke and the taste was what really had me. I would like to experience another soon. Not great but not bad.

"This one's impressive"
Having been disappointed by some of the Opus X' I've had in the past, I found this to be the most impressive yet. Great looking with massive volumes of smoke. Slight uneven burn, but nothing like I experienced from other cigars in this line. Got this as part of a "Father's Day Sampler", still haven't smoked the VSG Belicoso, but if I knew this and the Hemingway Work of Art were this good I'd have bought more of them.

im from Europe,so ive been smoking nothing but cubans so far.finally in usa i have possibility to try all best non cuban cigars, opus anejo diamond padron etc(they are much cheaper in usa than europe and available to buy.got 5 sticks of each brand and thats my first review of this opus x aka power ranger.well i did like it,it did not live up to the hype but it was the best non cuban stick i had so far.better than padron 1964,anejo,vsg or maximus.the taste of coco powder and coffee beans mostly throughout and had nice aftertaste.good construction, long finish, nice firm ash.overall nothing special but i did enjoy it,not really powerfull at least i did not discover any power in it untill i actually finished to smoke it and got up the couch,i got to admit it gave me a buzz.good stick but way overpriced

"Not all its cracked up to be"
Upon first light, the stick pulled tons of heavey smoke. Definitely not for the "light hearted." Notes of spice and metal. Not for me. Construction was great . No burn problems and filled the room with a nice thick smoke. Maybe better aftera HEAVEY meal. To me, not worth the money

"Serious metallics"
Prelight aroma was enticing; this plug was grown in very rich soil. Initial flavor was almost signature VSG (excellent!). The primary flavors I picked out were bright metallic flavors; copper, and iron. As I savor the finish, it's a beautiful heavy [blood] flavor, (meaty for the PC crowd). Burn was not perfect (3 touchups), but I only had it in the humi for a couple weeks. I dunno about nuts, honey, but pretty tasty. Thanks, Ben!

"Toasty and Spicey"
This stick is toasty and spicey. Lacks a liitle depth, but this is probably attributed to age. The 2nd will sit for awhile. The construction was good w/ a long ash, but the wrapper came a little loose towards the end. Probably b/c my humi has dropped in rh with the cold weather. Not an everyday smoke for the price of this small stick, but I'm celebrating a promotion. The second will sit a few years. I love to grab these when availible. Not to overrated in this size.

"Litte powerhouse"
Cigar tastes vary. Period. I like this - you like that; like food. Yet, given the five available categories available, any opus x must start with at least two 9s (appearance and construction). While I consider all Opus X to be a 10 in these categories - the least they could score would be a 9. Period. They are all beautiful and their construction is second to none (not even a Padron). As for flavor, value and overall smoking experience - I agree that opinions will vary.
Flavor: peppery (even when aged). Not my favorite Opus X. Good rich flavors, though a bit one dimentional for my taste.
Value: Good value (above average, but not great for this cigar).
Overall smoking experience: Still a first tier smoke. Period. I just can't see rating any Opus below an 8 on average (maybe a 7? if you really didn't like the flavor at all). This is just NOT an average cigar.

I ate surf and turf along with a sugary dessert and this little s-o-b made me a little light headed. Im just sick of powerful cigars in general. Full used to mean flavor, not strengh. The dominant flavor was pepper backed with some earthy flavors. If your looking for a powerful peppery kick to the arse, please do. Otherwise id ask for more flavor.

"Disappointing"
I am a huge fan of the Opus line, but this little belicoso keeps leaving me to wonder. This is the fourth one smoked from three different boxes, and all finished with terrible burn problems. I had to relight the cigar twice, before finally succumbing to my frustration and letting the half smoke cigar find its way into the bottom of my trash. What a waste on such a beautiful cigar! I will keep smoking the super belicosos and No. 2's that I love, but I will keep my hands off of this little cigar until I am naive enough to think that it will change.

"Does it live up to the hype? Yep!"
I've heard quite a bit about these smokes ever since I started smoking cigars a little under a year ago. The problem was finding a store than had them and didn't charge an arm and a leg. Luckily, a local shop that I frequent had a box of these and there were a few left. I only bought one since they're $11 a pop and I have been burned by overhyped stogies in the past. I went home and was anxious to see if it lived up to the hype. I'll let you know that I'm a big fan of Hemingways, Padron Annivarsarys, and Rocky Patel, so you know I have pretty good tastes when it comes to cigars. About two months ago I tried a Fuente Reserva Anejo, which is supposedly an OpuxX with a non-Dominican wrapper. The Anejo was ok, but nothing special. With that in mind, I wasn't expecting much difference when smoking the OpusX. Man, was I wrong! Perhaps it was the fact that this was a smaller stick (the Anejo had appx 60 ring gauge at the head and a torpedo tip at the foot)... or perhaps that wrapper made all the difference? I can't say for sure, but I will tell you that I was mighty impressed with the Opus! It had a very complex flavor, including nuts, honey, dried cherries, nutmeg, cinnamon, and that famous "grassy" Fuente flavor. Rich, smooth, complex, with a full-bodied leaning, this is an awesome smoke and is in my top 5 of all time. I'm only hoping that future OpusX's taste as good.
The only knock on my particular stick was that the wrapper seemed to have a certain "waxiness" to it, as I had to continually torch the thing to keep the outside burning. Maybe I had a tough wrapper and/or binder leaf. Either way, the taste is what matters most. In the case of the OpusX, it's definitely a winner in my book.

"Great, but don't overpay"
The typically beautiful reddish-brown wrapper covers this well-made cigar. The burn and draw are both top-notch, and the smoke produced is quite thick. This is a medium to full-bodied cigar packed with red-pepper and and woody flavors; it's pretty strong but still retains smoothness and balance. The long finish lasts for hours. I believe the MSRP listed above is inaccurate and with some luck and patience you can get these for around $9. Still a bit too costly and strong, for me anyway, to smoke all the time, but great for an occasional treat.

"Complex Firecracker"
Big taste in a small package! This one was from '03. Beautfiul flawless rosado-colored wrapper with barely perceptible veining. Solid construction without soft spots. Easy light. Loose draw in the first third, but got better after that. Even burn through the first half, then some uneveness thereafter. Required one relight (maybe b/c I purposefully smoked it slowly). Thick clouds of dense smoke. Gray-white flakey ash. BOOM! Started immediately with "in-your-face" spice and black and white pepper. The first third was a medley of vanilla, cedar, mahogany, leather, and a hint of burnt almond. The middle third brought notes of cinammon, spicy ginger, and a hint of black cherry all on the backdrop of a woody melange. The final third added a whisper of game and charcoal. All in all, this one hour 15 minute full-bodied smoke was surprisingly complex and VERY powerful. Even though I smoked it on a full stomach, I could still feel the abundance of Vitamin N. This one was gifted to me, so price wasn't an issue (which made it worth the $, of course!). Not an everyday cigar, but a nice change of pace for an after dinner smoke when you have the time to sit for awhile. Paired well with 15 y.o. Matusalem rum.

An old saying about a farmer who was all show...and no substance. Opus x is fighting this battle...although full of peppery flaver...I expect a lot for $20...and didn't get it. I prefer the Padron 1926 or Davidoff Millenium for an ultra premium special occasion smoke...and I am a HUGE Hemingway/Don Carlos fan...but I couldn't justify the hype or the cash. No way, Jose...

"What the..."
Maybe I had a dud or it was aged wrong but the sample I had sucked and for the price I paid I'm pissed. As for specifics, the xXx was med. body w/ mild taste. Draw was rather tight and burn was uneven. But for all the hype, which drives the price of these to ridiculous levels, all I can think of is disappointment. I have 2 more in the coolador and I'll have to give it another try. Again, maybe I had a bad sample. For all the hyped up n/c cigars you might want to rethink about buying an Opus. Try the PAMs of any size or their cousins - the 1926s. They are also much hyped but worthy of the prestige.

These are beautifully rolled mild-medium but complex cigars. At list they are somewhat over priced but I can see buying some for special occasions when you don't want a really strong smoke. The inflated prices some places charge are a joke. Very nice construction, great ash, medium flavors at best. I see the resemblance somebody else found with the la aurora 100 anos. All in all an excellent little cigar. I'd love to have a few boxes of these sitting around.

"2nd Opinion"
I had one of these a while ago and was not very impressed. As a result, I shied away from Opus in general, thinking them overpriced and overhyped.
That has actually not kept me from buying them. I have quite a few friends who think them the cat's meow and so whenever my local store, which sells them at MSRP, gets them in I stock up on them for gifts. You can't argue with the fact that they are exceedingly handsome and festive looking.
Well last night I opened my humidor to select a stick for the evening and for some reason I just reached for one of these. And I am glad I did. What a difference from those that I've had in the past! Exceeding rich and smooth, dense clouds of smoke, a perfect burn, and some flavors that I have rarely if ever experienced in a cigar. Lots of fruit, like raisins and plums, but so smooth.
An absolutely wonderful experience. I found myself almost cackling through the first 2/3 of the cigar. The final third, while still delicious, did not go in the direction that I expected. It got a little bit flat. However, it did not get at all tarry or harsh, which was a welcome change from a lot of other strong cigars.
I have a good stock of these at this point. I think I'm going to have to find a different stick to start giving away. 🙂

"Hype and a magnificent band."
In 1977 I was one of the last of my friends to go and see a little movie called "Star Wars". Everyone told me how this film was amazing. I was told I would sit in awe, the sci fi masterpiece would change how I viewed all films to follow. It was good, but could not possibly live up to the hype. Let me just say that I have seen this film dozens of times since and I do think of it as a classic.
That said, my experience with this widely praised stick was very similar. I was lucky enough to find a box of perfectos in my local tobacconists humidor and was elated. I bought several and placed them in my humidor. I sat on my deck and lit the first the first day. No aging for this one.
The appearance was impressive. Nice wrapper, firm yet yeilding roll and fantastic band. The perfecto cut well and the pre-draw was firm but smooth and easy. The cap was well constructed and the expertise of the rollers was evident. Lighting was simple and perfectly even. Initial flavor was full, spicy and complex. I was struck almost immediately by the "ordinary" nature of this cigar. The 1st third went well, although a bit hot. Soon I encountered a rough spot and the burn became uneven and the draw tight. For me, things went downhill quickly. Problematic burn, finicky draw, tarry cap. I actually let it go out just past the half way point. I am not saying the smoke was bad, it just did not live up to my expectations at all. I can do as well with a Padron or Ashton for much less $. As with the movie, I may develop an appieciation over time, although I cannot imagine buying any more that I have already.

"Looking for a short smoke"
I was, and this one filled the bill nicely. Fresh out of the box, this cigar was the poster child for aging your Opus X. About 1/2 through it started to burn poorly, but then again, I didn't need a 45 minute smoke. Fuente has been shipping them from the factory with a humipouch which definatly makes an already oily cigar wetter. The wrapper was dark and evenly colored. The flavor immediatly blossomed into a powerhouse of spicy peppery flavor. I can only imagine that this size will age as well as the others I have smoked.
