If the Lusitania sank in 1912, the Partagas Lusitania
floats well with me. This cigar is well made and the
flavor it creates explodes with leather and spice on your
tongue. The longest finsih I have ever had with any cigar

Another "Soon To Be Classic" Partagas from the Hoyero limited edition humidor. This Lusi is slightly larger in girth and shorter in length than a "stock" Lusitania, but that's where any similarity ceases. This grand cigar is destined to become a legend

"best there is"
The best there is? Yup. This is what every maker should compare their product to. The gold/platinum/diamond/whatever standard. I have yet to get one in the last 10 years with less than perfect wrapper, construction, draw, burn, ash, full smoke, wonderful flavor, etc., etc. This is a medium bodied, complex, spicy, mellow, aromatic, enticing, almost addictive smoke. My favorite, 'if you had to have only one' smoke, cost no object. Are there other great cigars? Cheaper? Yes, yes. But this is the one I turn to when I want to be indulgent. I won't even offer them to other smokers, except my wife who shares them with me accompanied by a Lagavulin 16 or Highland Park 18, on the patio watching the sunset. Selfish I know. Full disclosure: I buy them at full price myself when I don't get them cheap or free from an in-industry client.

I first smoked one of these at the Cigar Aficionado Dinner of the Century, in Paris. It was, at that time, the best cigar I'd ever experienced. Since then, I've had several of them, with varying degrees of satisfaction. I just finished the last of a box I'd acquired in 1997, and they were fantastic. Last night, I tried one from a new box, acquired 12/06, and it was unsmokable. I thought I'd get a hernia trying to draw on it. Very dissappointed.

"Arnold's preference"
My wife got a 3 pack of these when she vacationed in Cuba. I waited over a year before smoking my first one today. When lighting up this vitola, it had the typical partagas profile, like the Serie D no.4. but mellowed out very quiclkly into a relaxing ceamy smooth smoke. Keep that subtle smoothness throughout the entire cigar, and lasted well over two hours. One of the best Cuban's that I have tried, and will wait another year to try the next, to judge what time will do. I could not find anything negative to review about this cigar, although I would suspect that it would be expensive to purchase off the island.

"Not bad, but not great!!!"
I’d been holding off on smoking anything today until my brother showed up, because I knew he was bringing these bad boys. The anticipation was killing me, but the time finally came and we sat down and smoked these puppies. It had a nice natural wrapper with a nice contrasting band. The ash was light grey and stacked at first, but became more flakey and cracked towards the middle, and it wasn’t very sturdy. The draw was just a tad loose, but not bad at all. The burn was relatively even most of the way, but I had to relight the edges about five or six times. The smoke was light at first but became thick about two inches into the smoke. The first two inches of the cigar were filled with a leathery core and lots of cocoa. After that it really mellowed out and became a very light bodied smoke. It maintained a creamy dry leathery core throughout the rest of the smoke, which was very relaxing, but not tremendously unique or outstanding in any way. It finished on this note, and I decided that this was more of a Saturday morning smoke than an evening smoke, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless. I’d smoke another one, but I’d probably want one with a little more age on it.

"Oh Yeah!"
I bought a box of these form Sep 06. I was going to let them age for a while but I couldn't resist trying one for a benchmark. Unbelievable. Lot's of leather flavor an smooth full flavor. Quite a bit of nicotine also. Perfect burn until the last quarter. Taste changed about this time also, but this was because it was a youngster. This is the BEST cigar I have ever smoked. I am sure that they will get even better when they get some age on them, if I can resist smoking them, but it will be hard to improve on perfection. This is the finest double corona out there. I would have scored this a perfect 10 except for it's age.

"Biggers not Better"
I'm usually quite a harsh judge of my smokes but had to give this a 10 for appearance, I cant imagine a better looking stick. I dont get the burn or draw problems I've heard of and suspect much of the complaining comes from those who are clueless when it comes to big smokes, if you want something that lights, burns, draws and smokes like a PC, buy a PC. The flavours of this smoke are typical Partagas delivered slowly and smoothly in a cool mouthful and grows nicely to a creamy tobacco with hints of leather and spice much like the D4 Robusto at the end. If you've been caught up in the craze for mammoth smokes these are perfect. Personally I rarely have the time to do these justice and tend to prefer to take my time over a Partagas PC or D4 Robusto than rush something this size, their a fraction of the cost and tend to command your attention better than DCs which don't get going until half is burned away

"Ok, sub for Havana"
This would be a fine cigar, but for Havana's it is just a middle of the road stick. The locals don't smoke these at all and I had to go directly to the plantation to get one. This was a tight cigar and the draw plagued me for the first inch, but it loosened up and the earthy flavors came through. I did not pay much for this stick since the MSRPs you see listed reflect taxes and tarifs. If I had paid MSRP, I would have been a bit disappointed. As is, it is a plain good cigar.

If you've never given yourself the pleasure of this delightful habano, you really should. A long even burn, with a complicated mixture of flavors, all pleasing to the palate. No relight needed on this one, so put away the lighter, top off your toddy, and enjoy the thick, distinctly-cuban smoke as it builds to a pleasant resolution. The quintessential DC in my book.

"Pretty good"
I held on to this one for a year and had high expectations. It was good, but not for the price and not for a Cuban. I guess I wanted it to blow me away and it didn't. It was creamy, nutty, leathery and peppery with occasional caramel, but it was also grassy and sharp at times. The little RyJ Habanos I've smoked were as good if not better. Makes me feel much better about the cigars I smoke regularly.

"Incredible"
An incredible smoking experience! This stick from '99 sports a khaki-brown wrapper with nary a perceptible vein and mild tooth. Solid construction without any soft spots. Easy light. Slightly firm draw. Even burn. Tons of smoke. Gray-black ash. Started with mild black and white pepper, spice, and a tangy flavor that was not obtrusive. The first third brought forth flavors of nuts, mild leather, and toasted tobacco with dancing notes of vanilla adn cotton candy. MAN this thing is smooth and creamy!!! The middle third continues with the superb creaminess, and displayed a mild sweet leather flavor, cedar, and more toasted tobacco. The last third brought back a light pepper taste with a mild tanginess. All in all, this one-and-a-half hour medium-bodied smoke was most enjoyable. It certainly will make its way into my regular rotation, likely on Sundays when I have a chance to give it the attention it deserves. A classic, to be sure!

The Lusitanias is no exception to this rule. Absolutely beautiful to behold, this dark wrapped cigar has an excellent construvtion. Easy to cut and light, this cigar yields ample smoke. The draw is superb and the cigar stays lit throughout the smoke.

This cigar started out tastey and stayed that way for about 6 inches. The smoke was creamy with a little leather/cedar combination. The finish has some pepper, along with some other tastes that I can identify. The construction on this stick was OK, but I would have enjoyed it more had the draw not been so tight. Other than the draw, the construction was good, this stick burned fairly straight all the way to the nub. The only real negative, was the Canadian Cigar Club price.

"'I was overwhelmed. I called it joy.'"
Smooooth smoke. Just a beauty. Only have smoked a few premiums, hence the high marks. Can only campare it to my favorite La Flor Domincana (Cameroon Cabinet and Lancero Dbl. Ligero) and Dominican Partigas (No.10) brands for creamy smokiness and tastiness. Sweet at the first puff and the aroma had the soothing effect which reminded why this two year old habit has made me a easier person (somewhat) to put up with. Can't yet get into paramaters, subtleties and what have you about the smoke (that would be comical), but hope to some day. Bought seven for my best old buds bachelor party in June but had to have one tonight. I couldn't help it. Will be the supreme test of inner strength to let these babes alone 'till June. There is so much hope for everthing Cuba once what's his name is gone!
P.S. Will be buying more. That's fortitude.

"Robust!"
I smoked 1 from 03 tonight and all I can say is ...what a beautiful aromatic, robust, flavorful gem this is. I've been smoking 2 robustos or corona gordas a night. Tonight I decided to reach into my large cigar humidor for one of these that I have had for a while. I have only smoked 1 other from the batch when I received them and I don't remember it being nearly this pleasing. The draw sorta makes you slow down and enjoy the smoke. I guess I like a little firmer draw. The construction is top shelf. each time I thought it was burning wrong it self corrected. The aroma is one of the most alluring of any smoke I've ever had. This is what a Cuban is meant to be.

"Entire box had tight draws, but..."
BUT! that didn't take much away from the pleasure of smoking them! I found an easy remedy to that problem...smoke at 65% (I would recommend that for sticks with good draw too)...although a few had to visit the unplugging machine, but if it's worth it to "prepare it", I say DO IT and it shouold be easily forgotten if it IS INDEED worth the extra effort! Lusitanias are smooth, yet powerfull and have a long lasting thickness of flavor...not the sweetest of aromas (although I like it a lot, though some may disagree), it's not stinky, it's just thick and spicy.

Reife Früchte, exotisch und sehr süss, so präsentiert sich der Duft der kalten Zigarre. This one was part of a box that was brought to me directly from Cuba and it's been aging gracefully in my humi for 15 months. I smoked it in Sicily after a nice dinner but in a night of storming rage for some business problem. That said, this big stick performed very well its role of soul soother, with its excellent mix of partagas flavours and overall pleasant smoothness. Such a big thing burned very well, too. It cured my rage, only issue with this cigar is that you must have a lotta time to smoke...value is excellent, given the cuban prices. Close to the top of cigardom.

"Unsinkable!"
I've smoked several of these from a 2002 box and can only conclude that this is my favorite Habano of all time. This stick burns straight, and has full Partagas flavor without overpowering the smoker. These are a bargain compared to most Non-Cuban premium cigars!

On my first trip to Cuba I sampled many different brands and sizes, and nothing came close to this cigar. Not only is it great, it is a great value as well. One of my highlight from Cuba.

"Back on Top"
Recent Partagas cigars have been consistently outstanding --especially the 898 varnished and the Lusitania. Honeyed, earthy and a bit spicy. Pricey ( thaks to the Bush administration's huge debt) for Americans but a zillion times better than a Davidoff.

"Nice long smoke"
I had a couple recently, one was 6 years old, one was 1. Construction on my gars was perfect, no draw probems, no need to touch up the burn. Ash was firm and hung around. Taste started off a big slow, a little vegetal, but after a half inch or so straightened out. Nice flavor got stronger and more pepper and earth/leather as they burned. Not my favorite long habano, but very nice classic.

"A Great mild smoke"
I purchased a box of these and have no regrets.Perfectly constructed the way only Cubans are. Alittle tight on the draw but it is a huge cigar. Very nice mild flavor that builds to a kick ass finish. A true finger and lip burner. Get out the roach clip !!!

"Exquisite"
I smoked this cigar with a coke about a month out of the box and in my opinion it rivaled the padron 1926 series as my favorite smoke. Complex from the beginning with a rich cream taste that progressed until it was overpowered by spice and notes of cedar in the final third, always against a light coffee background. The beginning was marked with a slight sweet taste which tapered off with the end of the first third. Quintessential cuban taste and aroma, never overpowering with a perfect draw. The wrapper was beautifully smooth and flawless and the size of this cigar allows the smoker to appreciate its progression of flavors over the hour and a half to two hours it takes to smoke.

"Gave it a second try"
My first Lusitania was in Italy a single buy and was a hard draw. I purchased a full box about a five months ago and have smoked about five. I would say out of those two did not have draw problems. I have a box to work through but I keep getting lousy constrcution interupting my smoking experience.

"Tale of 2 halves"
The first half of this smoke was excellent. The smoke was rich and creamy with hints of berries, which were enhanced by the Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout that I paired it with. The second half was boring and non-descript. The draw was a bit snug, but the volume of smoke was decent. The wrapper was almost perfect, velvety smooth.

"Balanced, Uniquely Cuban"
Leathery, earthy flavor that is unique to Cuba, and especially well represented by this vitola. It's balanced, medium bodied, and very appealing looking. I've smoked quite a few from a cabinet of 50 from 2001, and each has burned flawlessly. In sum, this is a "go to" Cuban.

This beautifully made cigar with dark oily wrapper is a pure pleasure look at. Very smooth, but full boded and strong cigar. Do not be fooled by its smoothness and kind of mellowness wile smoking it. "A Connoisseur cigar"
This is a cigar for a seasoned Cuban vitola smokers. Strong flavors and aromas throughout the smoke. Very refined and complex flavor with some sweet spice, but changes from the second half with hints of coffee and leather at the end. Excellent construction, perfect draw for Prominente, long finish on the palate. Great cigar, but definitely not for the novice smoker. This one came from the box of August 2002. Cubans are living up to their promise to improve quality. This is the proof.
