"a wonderful find"
I tried this cigar due to the reviews seen on this website and found it to be as good if not better than described. The construction is the only less than 9 in my opinion. had trouble due to me usual deep drawing. then I left the band on and just slid it down the cigar to help keep it round and smokeable. Leather, spice and everything nice. bought a box and will horde them to share with my special friend Jeff E, who is the only bloke whom i know that enjoys a fine cigar as I do. we enjoy smoking cubans, and fuentes and opusx almost exclusively, but are branching out to find other wonderful tastes. highly recommend you try one. but buy two or more, because you will want another, guaranteed.

"Abre los ojos..."
This cigar in my mind is the definitive Cuban smoke out at the moment. If you have been smoking for a while like I have, every new smoke is a welcomed experience. I had 3 of these in my humidor, and I decided to light one up with my best friend Matt over some rum and beers last weekend. Matt had a Monty Edmundo (another great new Cuban). As for the Series D No. 4, Cuban twang, sweet graham crackers, and spice are what I remember. I like this cigar because for it has the strength of a Cohiba Magico and the finesse of a Montecristo No. 2 together the two work hand in hand. The robusto size lasted about 45-50 mins, and I nubbed it. This is the type of cigar that all others should be measured by. Whether you are smoking a Cuban or not, cheap or expensive, if you have tried this beauty, afterwards, the way you look at flavor, power, smoothness, and quality all changes. When I have the opportunity to buy these again, its going to be a box. Normally, a cigar of this price would scare me, but truthfully, never smoking this again scares me a hell of a lot more.

This was a great cigar - much better than the one I tried a couple years ago. It was medium-bodied and the flavor was classic Cuban. It was quite a bit stronger than I expected as well. About half way through, I was wishing I had eaten a bigger dinner before firing this one up! All in all, an excellent smoke.

"A Nice & Unique Flavor Profile..."
I liked this smoke. The first impression was of pronounced well seasoned wood followed by a small bit of salty caramel and as it got about half way I thought it got a little spice at the end too. Still the dry aged woody taste was the main component. There are certainly more complex mixtures, you know where the flavors are either all present in equal measures or where they even jostle in order and strength, but I found this one really good and pretty unique in the bargain. No sour musky taste here...A good clean finish was noted.

Construction was very good as it drew well, burned evenly, and my ash was in excess of 2 inches before it dropped. I punched this particular one so I could really judge how easy the draw would be and, like I've already said, it was an easy draw with ample smoke.

If you want a Cuban cigar that really is unique in a very nice way I heartily recommend this.

"2007 was a dream year for these"
Cedary and peppary mix of flavors. Very creamy and smooth throughout. August 2007 was a great month for production. I have smoked a box from this month and am tucking 2 away for use by my future self! Guys, quit comparing these to the EL from the past...the production cigars are no where near any of the EL. Worth every penny of 9 bucks! I belive these will soon be a 9 out of 10 (10 being the padron 1926 no.9 and no.1)

"Cigar Bliss"
From a 15 pack dated September '06. This might be my all-time favorite. Nearly perfect colorado wrapper with just one little "pimple" about halfway down, packed tight, pre-light scent that hinted of orange peel. Right when I lit it I got the caramel, wood and nutmeg that characterize these. No waiting around for 1/4 of the cigar to burn before the taste hits me. Rich flavors of wood, caramel and spice are so smooth and balanced. Toward the end you get a little roasted coffee thrown in as a bonus.
Refined and elegant, this is one of the best cigars on the planet.
Just a note: occasionally I read of someone complaining this is too mild or bland, and I have to think that our palates have been "dumbed down" by all of the so-called powerhouse smokes that have been popular for awhile. Maybe you got a bad one or perhaps you don't care for this type of flavor, but this cigar is the real deal. These are top-notch cigars. Try one when you have a clean palate. OK, enough preaching from me.

"I loved it"
I've had a few of these guys and I love them. The wrapper is by far one the best I've seen and it just feels so oily to the touch. The taste isn't amazing or super complex but it has such a nice flavor of spice, olive oil, and cream. This is one of my favorite smokes when it comes to smoking in the sun by the water. I recommend it with a nice vsop cognac (nothing higher, it's not worth that much). My uncle once said few people judge a cigar on the way it makes you feel after you have let it die and I think this is a quality often forgot.

"They're alright"
Perhaps I just don't love Partagas. I must admit that I've never hated them, but they've never struck me as fine cigars. This was no exception. The color was a nice dark brown and the aroma is very pleasant. However, thae taste was simple and bland. It had a spicy, oak sort of taste but nothing really memorable. Perhaps due to the really sub-par craftsmanship (the wrapper came undone about half way down) this cigar burned very hot and tasted a little harsh in it's peak. I will continue to venture and find the Partagas that I've been longing for.

I have always enjoyed DR 1845, but after getting one of these handed to me I was hooked. I love the Magnums and RJ Churchill, but this baby was up there in flavor and construction. "Grade: B+"
The flavor on this cigar is just delicious and is exactly what I think of when I day dream about smoking a cigar. It somewhat peppery, leathery, very woody in a way a could only describe as the harmony of a Cuban. The first 2 thirds of the cigar I consider to be very smooth and crisp but the last third is anything but. A wall of spice hits you that is nothing short of a grand finale. For me this is more of the kind of smoke I consider perfect to light up on a breezy afternoon relaxing (texas heat so consider the source). That said I will personally stick with the Bolivar Belicoso Fino's. I prefer more of a punch in face in a cigar as I am more of an evening smoker (stronger flavor). I will still keep a few on hand for the aforementioned breezy afternoon (rarity) though and when I do smoke one, I will cherish every minute of it.

Loots of leather and wood and about half way down, here comes the nicotine. "I'm with Darbarian on this one"
A spongy, pale stick with a mottled wrapper. Started mild, with a persistent grassy character and a short finish. Burn and draw were fine, but the flavor improved only modestly over time. It picked up a little spice and leather at the end, but too little, too late. I've had some superb D4s in the past, but this box from early '05 has been a disappointment. A friend got a similarly unimpressive box dated at roughly the same time. It seems that last year was something of a down year for this sometimes stunning smoke. In the future, I'll think twice before picking this one over a RASS, Famoso or Bolivar RC.

This is not a 10 dollar cigar, it is not even a five dollar cigar. It may be one of the first Cuban Cigars that I have sampled to be just adequate yard gar. It tasted of old soil, and not in a good cuban way. Perhaps the roller had dirty hands? The burn was a little off and the aroma was barnyard. Just not a great smoke for the price at all.

Just what you expect from Partagas. A well built, good looking stick with full earthy and spice flavours. The big gauge works well, allowing a slower smoother and cooler smoke which takes away the raw harshness you get from thin Partagas sticks and allows the flavours to develop to a creamy leather as it warms. I don’t think it’s quite a Specially Selected or an Epicture2, but for what it is, its one of the best.

Nothing to write home about. However if you want the taste of Patagas this is a good plece to start. All the flavour of the others in th range without the dry earthyness. Being a robusto this is a more rounded, medium flavour of earth and rich tobacco. Personally i fin the PC and the Super Partagas more interesting bu this very much has its place for those with a pallet for the mediub body/ full flavour smoke

My boss and I got to talking about cigars the other day... he revealed that he had a large stash of authentic cubans. He brought me in one of these and... DAMN it was tasty. Flavorful, medium bodied and perfectly spicy. This cigar lives up to the cuban hype.

"Still lovem!"
Just finished another box of early 05's and was quite satisfied with them and sat down a box of late 05's for a few year rest. Several out of the last box were kick ass spicey and the rest were very tasty. Have talked and herfed with several BOTL's that have varying opinions on the D4's. Lots of bland comments but the few boxes that I've smoked, have been very lucky to have a good experience. Other than being a bit spongy on a few they still tickle my fancy. My favorite robusto. Maybe a lovem or hatem vitola?

I've smoked a lot of these and they just don't do too much for me. I don't think they're bad, but they just don't give me the Partagas flavor I expect. When on, I get pleasant spices, when off, I get nothing at all.

This is the finest box after box cigar in the world! This is my 6th box spanning 4 rolling years(03-06) and no other cigar comes close to consistent taste and smoking quality. A very flavorful, medium bodied cigar with perfect burn and draw. My only regret is I can't seem to age them. They're just too good out of the box.

"A year later and..."
Here I am a little over a year later, when I decided to smoke the second of my gifted No. 4's. The additional age improved the good flavor and made this stick a spice bomb. I enjoyed the first cigar (reviewed 6/6/05) and this one was even better. The biggest difference between the two sticks, was the construction. The first was a little tight, while this one was perfect. The draw was excellent, affording loads of tastey smoke. Overall these are very enjoyable cigars and I look forward to more of these in the future.

"Dic 05"
A very serious cigar with a sophisticated flavor. Classic cuban roll, with the flat head and triple cap, firm to the touch. Burns slowly and a little unevenly at first. Some green flavors to start out, then becomes toasty with a bold corojo-like aroma. The spice picks up at the 3/4 mark and sets my tongue a-tingling. Toward the end the smoke is intoxicating, lots of pepper, and what a buzz... construction on this stick could have been better, but the taste and outstanding aroma make up for it in every way. I can't wait to see what a year or two in the humidor does for these.

"TASTY..STRONG..BUILT LIKE A BRICK POWERHOUSE"
They just don't roll them anywhere else like they roll them in Cuba. A handsome chestnut brown wrapper, the roll was packed tight with tobacco, like a rock. If this were a Dominican, Honduran, or Nicaraguan, I would have been reaching for the draw poker. The burn and draw were perfect, as I would expect from a Cuban Partagas cigar. I usually am lucky to get 20-25 minutes out of a cigar this size, I got almost an hour of a delicious and memorable treat. Bursting with flavor, even with the light puffs I was taking, so the extra full bodied smoke would not overpower me. A complex mix of fruits, nuts, breads, spices, maybe hints of coffee and cocoa. If you ever have a chance to try a Cuban cigar, I highly recommend this Partagas Serie D#4.

"a nice cigar for a relatively warm day"
what I mild day and I thought what a nice way to walk the dogs around noon with nothing but a nice robusto. The D4 got the call. I was concern about the "sick" issue because this stick is only ~4-6 months old. Gladly, this wasn't.

The prelight draw was easy and cedar-ed flavored. Toasting the foot was no issue and after the first few puffs, the cigar unleashed a coffee like flavor almost like a nice espresso. The finish was a hint of spice and cedar. Half way through, the flavor change a tad to me tasting some cocoa with coffee still the prevailing flavor. the finish remain the same, the draw was smooth, the burn was even, the dogs did their business; lo and behold I was back at home--the cigar at this time was nothing but a nub and a good memory.

This is my second D4 and I remain very impress with the taste and consistency.

"First smoke"
Smoked a Seris D. No. 4 for the first time tonight. Well consructed with a nice velvet smooth wrapper. It was a bit moist and as a result a little tight on the draw. After about 1/2" this cigar came awake. Full flavored and spicy without any harshness. As it I smoked this robusto, it became more powerful with a great finish. Near the end I had a slight feeling as if I had been punched in the stomach. Alas the end came and I had to put it down. For as young as this smoke was (box code July 05) it tasted good. I can't wait to see what a couple of months/years will do to this wonderful cigar. I have smoked very few Cubans, but I imagine this cigar is the essense of a Cuban cigar.

I had my very first D4 tonite. handsome looking robusto with nice feel o it. pre-light boquet was woodsy. lighted up without an issue and by the second puff, i tasted a spicy finish. after 1/2 an inch, it unravel a creamy slighytly sweet taste medium body taste with the spicy finish taking a backseat nonetheless, it still make your tongue aware. this continued on puff afther puff of nice thick white smoke, with a nice balckish ash build-up. the last inch and half was taken over by the spiciness which i did not mind but the smoke got hot and i had to say goodbye. the things i read prior to this smoke was not hype, it was all and then some! Good thing I have three more sticks--i figure one per 2006 quarter 🙂

This is one of the first Cuban cigars I ever smoked, and it remains one of my favorites. I recently broke open a box I have been storing for about two years, and the result is nothing short of astonishing. Fresh off the truck, the D4 is a peppery, spicy and complex masterpiece. "If Emilio Rebenga's last smoke..."
...before Tony Montana gutted him was a Series D #4, he died a happy man. I bought some Cuban Monty #2s, Series D #4s and Siglo 2s in Saint Marten while on vacation. I had a chance to enjoy one of these beauties on a secluded beach while sipping Carib (the local Corona type beer of the Virgin Islands) and watching the thong clad hotties frolic in the crystal blue waters. Wow. Amazing full flavor...yet not overwhelming or too spicy. Smooth. Tons of smoke. Great construction. Nutty, complex flavor profile. Pricey...but worth every penny. I expect to pay $10 for a good stick...and this is certainly world class.

"Now we're talkin' good smokes!"
This is one of the finest robustos (in every way) one could ever hope to smoke-and that's out of the box...add 5-7 years in proper storing conditions and you have yourself a real special occasion treat that will absolutely take you by suprise...nothing compares. (I might add that a Bolivar Busto with 5 years is hard to beat as well, but that's a totally different taste profile)-I'm tired of hearing "this cigar is way better than that one" and such, when they're completely different..."I like these flavors more than those" would sound much more intelligent!-If you like milk chocolate, tanned leather and spice, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!

"A serious cigar"
This is the cigar that the DR Partagas seem to be attempting to emulate...badly. It is nutty, oaky with a strong sweet tobacco flavor. Never tarry, and with only a very slight burn irregularity (probably because I was smoking it so slow to enjoy it more). Lots of Vitamin N, and a clean burn to the nub. This is probably my favorite cigar in the full-bodied category. It's not a cheap cigar, but definitely a good one.

Damm! This was a awesome cigar. I don't have a refined palate as most of these reviewers but I must admit the (2) PSD#4s that I smoked were both flavor bombs. I can't really describe it, maybe a nutty-wood burning taste? Body was on a heavier side of medium to full. When I think of a traditional "Cuban" or "ISOM" this vitola comes to mind. I paid dearly for them considering Cubans are not legal where I'm from so this is definitely a special occasion cigar. Highly recommended among ISOMs.

"so so..."
If I had not heard so much hype about this cigar before I tried it, I would have been much happier with it. Because of all the talk, I was somewhat disappointed. The aroma was very nice, but the flavor was nothing that I can't find in a dozen other non-Cubans. It was definitely a pleasant smoke, but nothing special. Flavors included licorice and nuts with some burnt marshmallow over a general tobacco flavor. The construction of this stick is where it was most lacking. The draw was tight the whole way through and the burn was a bit uneven. Also, it died on me about 3/4 of the way through and had to be re-lit. A friend of mine had one with me and his did not have any of those problems, so I guess I just got a dud. All in all, not a bad experience, but I was expecting much more.

I've nubbed a lot of great smokes, but honestly there was only about 3/8's of an inch left when I finally gave up. The burn was pretty even and the draw was not tight at all, actually a little loose. I wanted to get in a quickie review after a "lunch break" while the taste was still fresh and yummy in my mouth...

Just finished the first out of a box of Dec '04 PSD4's, and it is without doubt the best fresh Partagas cigar I have ever had. Period. Just exploding with those Party flavors we all love, and absolutely the most delicious sweet and spicy finish I have yet experienced in a young D4. Feel like I just finished a great meal, including the dessert. Construction, draw and burn: just plain perfect.

This is the second serie D4 I've tried of about seven Cubans (Hoyo de Monterrey, Romeo & Julietta, and Bolivar too..). Don't get me wrong... the Cubans are very good... BUT, they just generally are so good as to justify the price. I think the Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra, La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero, Hansotia Ancient Warrior, CAO Brazilia (especially Anacondas), Puros Indos Maduros and Victorias, etc. etc. more than measure up...especially when you consider value. While I will most certainly be interested in Cubans in the future.... I will not pay a premium for them every again.....

"Wonderful!!!!!"
I have heard the hype. I have read others' reviews with jealousy. Now I have my own to try, and try I did. This harmless appearing robusto has a tawny brown wrapper with medium veins. Solid construction with no soft spots and a fantastic prelight aroma. Easy light. PERFECT draw (best I've had). TONS of billowy white smoke reminiscent of the last PAM64 Imperial I had, from a smoke volume standpoint. From a flavor standpoint, this started off with some spice and mild cedar. It developed into a rich, complex, creamy taste with notes of wood, leather, and roasted nuts. I smoked it before dinner, which was a mistake. Don't take its short stature for an underpowered cigar - this one can pack a punch! The one hour experience left me with burnt fingers, but it was worth it. The hype is real.

"Classic Cuban In All Aspects"
I have held out on my post of this Classic Cuban Vitola for the better part of a year.
My box of these gems has been resting for over 2 years in one of my D'ors. What can I say, that has not already been said? All aspects of this Vitola are A1. Great taste, Flavors and top notch construction. I read other posts that said it was mild? Never! smooth yes but with a full bodied kick. It's a must try, but remember if they are genuine sit down and enjoy after a full meal. It will blow your mind.
No hype!

"WOW!"
My first box of Partagas D4s...now I can see what all the hoopla is about, and I can't believe it took me this long to try this top-notch robustos. Out-performs the Cohiba robusto by a good bit, and I, until now was quite partial to the Bolivar Royal Corona as my favorite robusto. This takes the cake, fellow aficionados. The draw delivers mouthfuls of smoke so rich you can almost chew it it. The bean tastes are there, and I swear I can taste a black cherry note as well. I can't wait till some age takes on these great smokes, and I need to buy a couple more to age. I recommend this cigar in the highest possible way.

After a Cohiba, this is my favorite Cuban robusto. After smoking a few boxes worth, I have yet to have a bad experience with one. "Shame they finish..."
Smoke #3 of a particularly intense smoking week end (a Vegas Robaina Unicos and a wonderful Italian cigar, an Antico Toscano, were also on the list), the D4 was the icing on the cake. Quite powerful but smooth, very well blended flavours (say cocoa and leather, mainly, an almost impeccable construction and a very even burning ring (even in the wind) were its assets. I can't recall any liability, but the sad moment I had to see it go, not before it started burning my fingers....Not for the faint at heart, though, given its inner strength. Value is no issue with a cigar like this!

"Yeah, baby!"
When I go to Oporto, Portugal (actually Vila Nova de Gaia) to review the
available ports and decide which vintages are appropriate to lay down, I
usually eschew the Lisboa to Oporto connection on TAP in favor of a
leisurely drive across Spain. A flight to Madrid, and then an afternoon
drive through the Moorish section of Spain seems to melt the tension and
leave me more refreshed and ready to relax at the port houses. It also
allows for the procurement of reasonably priced cigars for the drive.

These were from a lonely box of SD #4s I found in the middle of Madrid. I
picked them up and then headed for the bull ring for an evening's
relaxation. The crowd was lively, the weather beautiful, and these cigars
smoked very well out of the box. The date code said they were almost a year
old when I bought them, but they smoked smooth and with characteristic
power.

This really is a great cigar and I'm suprised that its review average isn't higher, say in the low 9's. Regardless, the construction is just as flawless as the draw with a slow and even burn that demonstrates the artisian grace this baby was made with. Full bodied with deep notes of spice, wood, and a few other complexities that I can't describe. Everything is in perfect balance keeping the Partagas power in balance with the smoothness cigar-lovers have come to expect from top of the line smokes. Definitely worth $10 and more. Bravo!

"Box Code - FRH SEP 03"
The draw was a bit firm, but it lit easily and burned smoothly through the first half. The wrapper was silky smooth and had no large veins. The flavor was text book for a PSD4. Through the first half it was woody with a good amount of hot pepper spice. Initially there were hints of black cherries. The second half of the cigar was not as complex, an overwhelming spicy flavor dominated the cigar and the strength grew with every draw. Eventually the cigar began burning under the wrapper and it culmnated with a sharp bitter finish.

i dont' know what the guys below me were smokin, but it must not have been a real PSD4. very complex, peppery/spicey, a little chocolate in the last half. perfect burn, draw was so easy and smooth (like breathing), not harsh in the least bit. box date was april 03. i'm buying a box, my first entire box for myself. there's no way a CAO Criollo could come close in flavor (i've had many of those as well). i chose 10 for value, i'd pay upwards of $20 a cigar for these, but i only payed half.

Yet another over hyped Cuban. If and when Cubans become legal they will be like when Coors moved east of the Rockies and people realized the rest of the beer industry had left it in the dust. This cigar is bitter, harsh and leathery. In fact it taste so much like the CAO Criollo Conquistador they could have come from the same manufacturer except the Part is not as refined as the CAO. The really sad thing is I still have two of these rancid sticks festering in my humidor.

Construction was excellent, but off the start I have had three boxes of these beauties and they have been inconsistent in color, some dark maduro color other more of a greenish olive like color. HOWEVER they all smoked beaufiully. Very oily and smooth, a medium plus to full bodied complex cigar. Had chocolate and spice with a wonderful aftertaste. You can not go wrong with this cigar, one of my favorite cubans

Excellent construction. Wonderful supple feeling in mouth and hand. A perfect effortless draw. Just loads of thick rich smoke. Med/full bodied. Richly flavored and deeply complex. Deep rich loam, coffee beans, and a strong chocolate appearance made this cigar almost indescribable. Creamy texture. Long finish that was fabulouse. The aroma was spicy and perfumed. Just heavenly. I rated this cigar about a month ago. Have not smoked it for a while, since had some other new Cuban arrivals, after coming back from Spain and England. Just had one after lunch with a cup of espresso and boy o boy, it is a true Partagas from good old days.
I would like to stick to every single word I said in my previous rating. They are just fabulous robustos.
Though I am more of a Churchill and Double Corona man, this beautiful robusto just knocked my socks off.

"One of the best robustos"
Came from a box of October 2000 and Sep. 2001.
A dark and oily robusto that draws like a dream...earthy and woody, with leather and molasses notes with long somewhat spicy finish. It's medium to full bodied, with excellent ageing potential..
Compared to the production years prior to 2000 just keeps getting better.

"A staple in My humi..."
A great draw that almost smokes itself..this robusto delivers spectacular flavors..I've had these with the wrappers a redish color and had them very dark..both excellent..notes of cocoa ..and rich smoke..always on My short list of must haves.

"In my "top 5"."
In my "top 5". Nothing special to look at. Little nutty/cedary/creamy. That great cuban aroma! Smoking through a box. No construction problems(so far).
