"i like em"
this is a average to good maduro of the textbook variety. it's what you'd expect for $5. highly consistent. aging does help, but it'll never be a ttt.

"Nice Burn"
I smoked this cigar the day I bought it. The flavor, although pleasant, was nothing special. Despite this, the general appearance and construction were good, and the burn was nearly perfect all the way till the end.

"Time is Magic"
I purchased a few of these a while back from a B&M I came across. I smoked one in the store and really did not enjoy it - quite harsh. Roll the clock forward - after 6 months in humi I am really enjoying these. A dull looking maduro wrapper yielding a perfect pinch test pre-light. Once lit excellent draw, hints of pepper and vanilla - long on the pallet and even burn requiring no touchups. I will enjoy the last 3 I have. 🙂

"Store in Humi"
The ability of this cigar to improve with some months in the humidor is very impressive. When I first smoked this RyJ Maduro, I had some issues with a dominant tar/bitter flavor through out. The cigars (five pack) have had about six-seven months of humidor time in them. Smoked one last night and the prelight turd aroma was still very present. The prelight aroma does not carry over into the smoke. The only way I can describe the flavor is something between a salty peppery dried meat (jerky I guess). I had no burn issues at all but I don't remember if I did the first time I was not pleased with the cigar. Great cigar if given time to settle into itself.

"A Sleeper..."
I got five of these in a large sampler over a year
ago. I smoked a couple right away and was not
that impressed. A good smoke, but nothing more.
Just a few weeks ago I found two in the back of
my humi and looking for something different, I
decided to try them again. WOW! BIG
IMPROVEMENT. A substantially better smoke
after aging. The cap literally tasted like candy,
and the smoke was more more developed and
enjoyable. I just ordered another fiver, so
they're ready later this year. A very nice
maduro, if you treat them right.

"Can a mild smoke be complex?"
Tried this smoke with some trepidation after I read some mixed reviews. The complexity started right off the bat. Good looking cigar with a nice nose of fig and even some berries. The draw was good. The smoke was rich. Nice cashew buttery start. Nothing bitter about it. A little hint of cinnamon or mint, and maybe some apples on exhale through the nose. Wonderful start followed by a little vanilla custard & chocolate on the back of the palate. I even got a little bit of Juliette herself (not a Jersey girl on a hot summer day, but more of a shaved California super model after a nice shower). Excellent medium bodied cigar.

"Let Them Sit"
Bought a box of these back in August. Smoked a couple of them shortly after arrival and was less then impressed. Here we are three months later, and boy what a difference! The wrapper has taken on the appearance and feel of suede leather and the taste has improved exponentionally. I used to hate opening my humidor and seeing these, but now I'm glad I didn't start handing them out. Buy these, put them in your humidor, and forget about them for a while. You'll be pleased you did.

"Another average cigar"
Looked good, punch no good, had to clip the whole cap to light it. Slight uneven burn. Flavor just not up to some other R y J's.

Not impressive. No taste, very dry, draw was not acceptable. The only thing appealing to this cigar was the price.

"joining Reyes smokes on my blacklist"
Perhaps I'm spoiled, or just too German for my own good, but I've lost my patience for smokes that won't draw. There's no excuse. To the degree that this gave up some flavor, it was fair. Not good enough. Dumped it halfway. These shall not grace my humidor again.

"disapointing to say the least"
I love maduros. I can't emphasize that point enough. I saw this cigar and thought it looked absolutely beautiful and delicious. I couldn't wait to get home and enjoy a smoke I assumed (my first mistake) would taste as great as it looked. I opened it (my second mistake) and it smelled god-awful. I lit it and it tasted absolutley horrid (my last mistake). I made it about half way before I could take no more and tossed it (best choice I have ever made).

"nice chocolate maduro"
I can't find anything I don't like about this cigar - except they're $8 a stick at my tobacconist? But, online pricing, it could become my go-to cigar. Consistent burn and construction, easy light, smooth tasty cocoa and coffee all the way to the nub - and I smoke these to the nub.

"Con even better"
I liked the maduro so much tht I thought I would try the conn. It was, dare I say, even better! I love maduros, but this was one of the smoothest RYJs Ive ever had. I have to get some more. A honey of a cigar!

"Confused!"
This cigar is my first love! It’s like eating Rocky Road Ice cream! Man oh Man! The construction, the burn, the ash, the flavors, that form, those curves, the after-taste...soo freaking good! What else is there?

"very nice"
Good looking stick, no construction problems at all, smooth easy draw, even burn, started out spicy, mellowed out a little and returned to a pepper taste in the last half. Wasnt a strong maduro, but I liked it and the other 3 or 4 Ive had of it.

"Go gal go!"
I totally agree with CigarGal on this one. This is a deep marudo that has a flavor unique, even among maduros. I have not tried the Cuban, but since I expect to pay a heck of a lot more than 4 bucks for that version, I cannot imagine that my overall satisfaction would be greatly intensified by procuring one. This is another AF gem.

"Are we smoking the same cigar?"
Had one of these last night and I can't get it out of my mind. I had even burn throughout with tons of tasty smoke. The wrapper was dark and oily-looked like a snickers bar left in the sun. I smoked it until my fingers burned

"Not as good as the LGC Maduro"
When I smoke a maduro I expect to have that distinctive spicy and sweet flavor. I agree with the majority of the past reviews. I will not buy another one. The Cuban RJ is much better.

"Run away!"
What a fake cigar! It tastes like burnt toast - and not at all sweet or mellow, but lackluster and a bit like tin. It cannot have been test marketed, 'cause there is no way the public would consume it. There are worse smokes out there, and if anything, this is a good introductory cigar for real rookies. Maybe that's what they were going for and kept all the good leaf for other R&J stogies.

"Smells stronger than it tastes"
Several of the previous reviews complain about the smell of this cigar, but I actually liked it: mine had an earthy, spicy, chocolate cake aroma. However, this is to be smoked and not eaten, and the pre-light aroma doesn't carry onto the flavor of the cigar itself; it's rather mild, with only mild spice and bready flavors with a lightly sour finish. I found the construction of this cigar to be its worst feature: firm draw producing whispy amounts of smoke, and a slow but inconsistent burn requiring several relights. Not one of the better maduros out there.

"a bit different than other reviews"
This is a one cigar review from a robusto sampler pack. The pre-light scent was a bit ammonia so put in humidor for a month before smoking. Wrapper was ugly with blanched areas and was chipped/broken away about a quarter inch from foot. Initially, for the first inch or so, the smoke gave a sledgehammer of pepper taste to the roof of mouth and back of throat. Unpleasant. Then settled to a more smooth and reasonably nice maduro sort of flavor. After halfway, became bitter tasting with a mildly unpleasant aftertaste. I will not be buying these in the future, but I would probably smoke at least the first half if someone gave it to me.

"Crap Stick"
I should have read the review of this cigar before I tried it. It does smell and taste like crap, but looks great. This is the first stick I have ever tossed just because the smell was so bad, taste was crap too. You couldn't pay me to smoke another one of these.

"I think I'm going to be sick..."
Came in a JR 10-robusto sampler. Now, before I trash this cigar publicly, let me state that the R&J 1875 has long been one of my favorite, most highly regarded cigars. What a shock when I removed the cello from this R&J maduro and noted the unmistakable aroma of...crap. This cigar literally smelled like crap. WHY did I even light this thing and put it to my mouth, I can't explain--I don't even LIKE crap--maybe because it LOOKED ok. Flavor? Can't tell--the smooth draw and even burn produced huge clouds of crappy-smelling smoke until I finally gave up about 1/2 way down and ordered a garlic pizza just to get that smell out of my nose. Absolutely vile. Maybe someone at the factory was playing a joke on me. No such problems with the 9 other cigars in the sampler.

"A good chunky maduro"
Although lacking in some complexity, this is maduro defined for me. A very robust maduro flavor starts it out, and it drops a bit in intensity to a nice medium bodied smoke. The dominant flavors in the middle are of course maduro with occasional bits of nutty and toasty overtones. Blackened caramel that Da Klugs called it...is about right. Not a fully dimensional cigar but very good and consistent from box to box.

"Not bad.....pricey"
I didnt like the first couple minutes of this cigar. Ive had Romeo's before and like Monte Cristos not a bad cigar, but not great but with a steep price tag. I did like the cigar more as I went along. It didnt draw good at first, but was much better, I liked the taste of yet and enjoy maduros the most, but I think the El Rey Del Mundo Robusto will blow this cigar out of the water, plus about $40 cheaper per box.

"strong but not harsh"
The wrapper of this cigar was a bit rough, but did not hamper the smoking experience. It also had a funny smell before lighting, but had a nice flavored smoke to it. This cigar was a little more spicy than I usually like in a cigar, but was never harsh. After the first 1/4 of the cigar I really started enjoying the taste.

"Blackened"
These have some interesting initial flavor. Lets call it blackened caramel. Turned to licorice about 1/2 way thru and stayed one dimensional from there. OK but not a great maduro. Nice construction, burned well just not very tasty. Got it in a sampler so my price is the average.

"Happy New Year !!!"
I bought a few of these at the JR store in New York on December 18th. New Year's day was unusually warm here in the north east, so I sat on my front porch and fired up one of these puppies. Quality is exactly what I have experienced with other R&J cigars. As with other reviewers, I too noticed a peppery flavor at first that settled down into a real nice flavor that stayed consistent to the end. Definitly a top cigar among Maduros.

"Nice smoke"
Got this one in a sampler also. Great construction and taste coffee and amlt and mellow the whole way. Good burn and nice draw if it cost less I'd make it an everyday smoke. Still I could make room in the humi for these as a couple times a week smoke. Good choice to introduce someone to the joys of maduro.

"A very good cigar"
Got one in a sampler and fired it up. The construction was excellent and the appearance very good. The cigar burned evenly throughout not requiring even one touch up. I smoked it to the nub. The second half of the cigar is the best. It did smell funky before lighting but then the taste took over and was great. It had a light grey ash and I ashed it twice during the entire smoke. I really enjoyed it but due to price constraints could not make a habit of it. OVerall very good!

"A winner"
I've smoked the #4 before and it left me wanting for bigger flavor with an easier draw. The robusto does the trick. It is an easy draw with great flavor. The wrapper is smooth and tasty. The flavor is a bit peppery to start and then it had a flavor I could put my finger on. After reading dj's review, I agree...malt with a hint of coffee bean. Very nice...I almost busted out another...but I controlled myself.

"store separately!"
these are nice, but a little "aromatic" when first opened. That aroma is (unfortunately) somewhat manure-like. If given a chance they mellow into decent maduros, but if you put them in a box with other cigars, they may be affected adversely.

"Okay"
The look of this cigar was excellent, but it was a let down. What I expected is not what I found. The flavor was off someplace I can't explain. The filler seems to have too much of something I have not had before in a cigar, so the flavor was raw. The construction was good and the overall value was poor.

"nice maduro"
Nice maduro. Rough wrapper with large veins running throughout that split the first inch of the cigar. Burn and draw, however, were excellent. Smooth light to medium bodied maduro that builds in intensity as it burned culminating in flavors of pepper, coffee and rich tobacco. No harshness or bitterness. A well aged, smooth refined and unobtrusive maduro that while not outstanding is light and easy to smoke. I will try others in the line.

"Still not a R&J fan"
A new line with a maduro wrapper thats a bit lighter than a standard maduro. Good light, even burn. nothing stands out, so I am wondering if the blend is the same just a new cover because I have never been a R&J fan (even of their Cubans). Its full, a bit heavy on the tougue, and grows more bitter/harsh in the second half. No need to return to this one again.
