A pleasant surprise. My first of the Vegas Robaina family. Supple to the touch. Average looking wrapper. Easy light, perfect draw, and mostly even burn. Light grey, firm ash. Medium to full bodied. Full taste without a hint of harshness. Every draw

"My birthday smoke"
After lunch at my favorite Indian restaurant I fired up one of these. Beautiful reddish brown wrapper, prelight draw of milk chocolate. Upon lighting, a nice smooth cocoa-y flavor. Very light with a hint of earth. As I smoked this it built in strength with nuances of spice and buttery chocolate tastes. Sometimes a little sweetness came and went. This is a fabulous cigar that seems to be overlooked sometimes. What a shame because this should have a place in humidors everywhere.

"Perhaps the Best"
Rivals both Bolivar RC and Partagas Serie D #4.
Perhaps even better...but only tasted one yet. After i cut it, and tested the draw i became sceptical because of the very tight draw. I was afraid to run into trouble..but did not...draw was tight but consistant and even the whole way in... And with a taste from "another world" i have no problem giving it a top score.

"So Good"
These have a nice dark wrapper, almost maduro shade. From a box July '05.
Starts out with a chocolate, coffee and spice flavor. About halfway the flavor fills your mouth more and takes on more earthy notes. Toward the end it becomes very rich with earth and leather and stays smooth till I burn my lips. Some of the cigars from this box have a pronounced dark cherry flavor that comes and goes, very nice change of pace. These cigars have a unique taste and I enjoy them on a hot summer afternoon.

"at 2.5 years..."
Still a superb smoke. They look so perfect that I'm always reluctant to put the torch to it. Leathery, earthy, and (I hate to use the already abused term, but...) twangy. Unmistakably Habano. An easygoing medium body, as I smoked this with morning coffee and it didn't overwhelm. Lacks the depth of an RC or a RASS, but there's always a place for these in my humi.

"Great!!"
Pick up a few 5 packs of things to try & this was one. Beautiful wrapper, great pre-light aroma, great construction with great burn, med flavor with hints of cocoa & an earthy leather. I definitely keeping a few of these in the humi to age!

"Hell yeah"
A little over two years old now. Medium strength, a ton of smooth flavor. Leather, hints of earth, a lot more cocoa than I noticed a few months ago. And since I didn't mention it in my last review, what a great size! Robusto-meets-corona gorda. I put the Famoso right up there with a RASS and just a click below the Boli RC.

"D'oh!"
I think I smoked this one too soon after arrival. I just received it about a week ago and I knew I should have given it more time to rest, but I couldn’t resist. Anyway, the stick looked amazing, was packed solid and drew well, but the flavor was pretty flat. It had a slight coffee-and-cream flavor with a little bit of spice, but nothing like I hear about or like the last one I tried a couple years ago. I have an Unicos waiting to try, but I can guarantee it’ll be given a much longer slumber before it’s put to the flame.

"Chocolate and Spice"
These are smooth, rich and tasty, a hugely underrated Cubinsky that gets no headlines. Tastes like a chocolate spice candy bar. Awesome construction with a cool, smooth burn. August 06 box. at $7.50 per stick unbeatable

"a staple"
These were early-'05 production, as I recall. Perfectly uniform wrapper color with an occasional thin vein. Draw is effortless, producing clouds of dense smoke, though it can burn hot if you get overzealous (as I'm prone to do). Rich tobacco flavors with leather and a touch of earth. Chewy, oily mouth feel. While it may not have the complexity of some of its Habano brethren, the VR Famoso is a solid anytime kinda smoke. A staple in my humidor.

"Quality Smoke"
Don Alejandro Robaina (founder of this great brand) has a tremendous amount of tobacco experience, and it truly shows. There is a certain air of luxary about this cigar, from the beautiful dress boxes to the detailed bands; yet the true beauty is in the cigar itself. The wrappers are beauties, and will shine with oils when stored properly over time. The draw is consistent, and the craftmanship is very good.
Notes of coffee, chocolate, and burnt almonds float around in this well balanced, medium bodied cigar. If you like the flavors of the Famosos, then you will love the Don Alejandro (Churchill) which is basically a rollercoaster ride of similar flavors.
The Famoso is one of the better robustos on the market today; and will certainly set a standard if the quality and consistency continue with this relatively young brand.

"Great Smoke"
This cigar never fails. After a boring Quay D'Orsay Imperial churchill I felt the need for a tasty cigar. This was far superior! Tons of smoke, easy draw and some wonderful flavors of cinnamon, chocolate, etc. A winner for sure.

"A favorite"
I have smoked 2 boxes of these and I rank them among my top 3 favorite cigars. Creamy and with full tobacco flavor but with a medium strenght. Always flawless in appearence and consistent good draw. However, care has to be taken to not keep this cigar too humid or the wrapper has a tendency to burn significantly slower than the filling.

"Another Habanos Winner"
Received a sample pack of 5 different vitolas the other day, no clue what factory or date codes are, unfortunately. I loved the flavors of this cigar! Have been looking for something that came close to the wonderul unique flavors of a Cohiba Panatela and this is it. Not sure how to describe, nutty, creamy, cinnimon?? Just damn nice. Can't wait to try with a Bass Ale or Winter Beer later this fall. Will be added to my "Buy Anytime" list. Excellent construction, burn, draw, flavors that began as tasty as could be with the 2nd puff (not a 1/3 in like some). Smoked this the night before my first Ramon Allones S. S. which was almost as nice as this.

"Very Nice"
This was a very enjoyable cigar. It had a very nice appearance and felt good in hand. The draw was slightly tighter than I like it, but not worthy of major complaint. The flavor of the cigar did not change much throughout the stick, but that was not a problem either as it was quite tasty. In fact, this was one of the most flavorful medium-bodied cigars I have had. (Most medium-bodied cigars I've had are too bland). Anyway, the cigar tasted like a Chai Latte - slightly creamy with nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin pie. There were also some mild coffee notes. Overall, quite good. My only complaint was the ash - it kept falling off every inch or so. I ended up with a bunch in my lap! I smoked it outdoors at night, so I couldn't see its color and texture very well, but they seemed good from what I could tell.

"missing something?"
Uneventful flavor. Draw was great, burn was off most of the smoke. This wasn't a bad cigar, just not quite up to the hype. I'll let this December 04 box sit longer and hopefully, with age, they will come close to meeting expectations.

"Tasty little sucker"
THis hermoso #4 vitola is from 1997.
It is a true puro, from the Robaina plantation.
Scrumptious and decadent.
Flavors of herbs and milk chocolate prevail, as it turns spicy and earthy with undertones of dark chocolate.

"Great!!"
This is one of the most complex smokes I've had. Tawny brown wrapper with no soft spots. Fantastic prelight aroma. Easy light. Draw a bit tough in the first inch but eased up afterwards. Started with spice, mild leather, and floral notes with a hint of cinnamon, then developed into a fantastically complex, creamy flavor with espresso and tobacco that left a spiciness on the tongue that was throughly enjoyable!! No burn issues. Tons of white smoke and a gray slightly flaky ash. This stick from August '97 proved to be 45 minutes of sheer pleasure. This was gifted to me, and I will definitely be getting more!!

"Almost Famous"
I decided to go Cuban this Easter while the in-laws messed wit the short filler variety smokes. Famoso has a dry, hot burn that was somewhat annoying the first 1/4 inch. Wood and leather flavors, albeit mild as hell. The draw produced alot of thick smoke, but I was hoping the flavors would be more pronounced. There are more deserving robustos worthy of your time and money.

"Crop rotation?"
Do you think Don Alejandro gets his pick of the vegas for the VR line? His products are consistently among the best in quality and flavor. I enjoyed this cigar with a strong espresso and the flavors matched perfectly. Earthy and slightly acid on the tongue. Superb.

"Not overly impressed"
Despite my general positive bias vis a vis the products of Don Alejandro, this one was, in my view, nothing to write home about. Just too bland, if well made and overall pleasing. Didn't taste like a cuban. Don Alejandro can definitely do better.

"Nice smoke..."
I bought a 5er from 1997, so I was excited to try a few of these babies. I'm not too impressed with the taste of this one. Too earthy for my buds. Burn was even, nice ash. I like my PSD4, CoRo, and RASS much better.

"Disappointing..."
For as much as I've heard about the Famoso, I was disappointed by my experience. It is a nice looking cigar with pleasant burn and draw, but the flavor is lacking. I would rate it as slight above average on the whole, but nowhere near the likes of a Cohiba or Ramon Allones robusto shape.

this is one of those great cigars in the gran corona/ robusto class of Habanos; only smoked one, thx to a gift from Peter R!!! wouldn't put it in the elite class of RyJ#4 or P Punch or Partagas D#4 or SLR Regios or HdM Epicure #1 or ERdM ChoixSup, but is definitely at the very next level; good flavor; medium-bodied; nice burn; ring smoke

"Salute to Mr. Robaina"
It’s getting harder and harder to rate cigars and remain objective. I decided to rate all cigars using Padron Anniversay 1964 Series as a benchmark, since those are the highest rated cigars on this Web.
Now, I would like to state, that as much as I like Mr. Padron, I like Mr. Robaina even better.
Enough said, this is one very flavorful and well made cigar from the box of May 2002. Paid $165 for a box, which is half the price for ANY Padron Anniver. And if Padron gets 9.35 this one should be 9.5, period, though I did not like it more than R&J Robusto EL, or Partagas Series D#3 – now you know what I mean, when I say it is getting harder to rate a good cigar? Especially when SOME SMOKERS rate Ashton VSG 10 @$300 per box.

"Interesting"
I have only smoked one of these and I will probably revist them at some time, although I found this smoke to be a bit too mild for my tastes. The wrapper was silky smooth with a bit of tooth and a nice even burn. It was sweet in the beginning with hints of raisins. The sweetness dissapaited and gave way to modest woody flavor with a long flat finish. A bit too pricey in Canada.
