Do you care if your S.O. doesn't keep up?

With your spending that is.

My wife is overly practical. She doesn't give a flip about what I spend (within reason of course) but getting her to spend money on herself is a real hassle.

I am forcing her to spend 2k on herself so I can feel better about replenishing my humidors. I can't enjoy myself otherwise.

isnt that why you have a seperate hidden cigar fund?

isnt that why you get a buddy to use his cc and you pay him in cash?

isnt that why you dont get married?

No...you shouldn't have a separate hidden cigar fund. You should have a separate hidden viagra fund, and an unlimited cigar fund. That way the wife really won't care how much you spend on cigars, she'll just be smiling and sighing whenever you walk in with more cigars.

My wife and I have separate bank accounts. Half our income goes into a joint account for joint paying bills (mortgage, utilities, etc). Half goes into our personal accounts (car payments, insurance, cell phones, etc).

I can spend my money on whatever I want.

My wife is a real spendthrift and hardly ever spends money on herself. She could care less what I buy or how much I spend but I would feel like an idiot going guns a blazin' while she spends nary a nickel. And that is why my go to cigar is the beloved Sancho Panza.

Aww horse crap!
I don't get this SO keeping up or the separate account stuff!

My wife has her checks auto deposited in my account. I pay all the bills and give her an allowance.

Until I got into cigars I hardly spent anything on myself. She would always encourage me to but there wasn't much I wanted and we were broke. Now I make more and I found cigars a few years back so I spend on me. She's happy for me.

My wife is very good to me, but I dont think she feels guilty buying new shoes or a purse. I have no problem with buying cigars and accessories, as they are cheaper than Louis Vuitton.

I think it's just kind of the ebb and flow of it all. These things tend to even out in the end. My wife and I are both pretty frugal. I went for years spending almost no money on myself, but have in the last few years cultivated a couple of hobbies, cigars being one, that I enjoy and now choose to spend a little money on now and again. I probably spend a little more than she does now, but that's not been the case in the past. At some point the roles will undoubtedly reverse again.

Oddly enough, when my sons moved out of the house we discovered additional discretionary income. I thought for a while that $20 must be falling out of my butt then realized I had quit being an ATM machine. Miss 'em you will, but there's almost always some upside.

I understand where you are coming from... it brings me a lot of satisfaction to see my wife have things she enjoys. I am pretty liberal with the jewelry, trips to the spa, flowers for no reason, etc.

For some reason, she doesn't seem to mind what I spend on cigars. ;)

wow, that is exactly how we do it, and when I tell my other married friends, they look at me like I have a d*ck growing out of my forehead. It works so well, as there is no guilt involved in me dropping 200.00 a month on smokes when it happens.

So no, I really don't care if she does or not, which like the original poster, mine does not either.

I thought I was the only one encountering this. My wife is very generous when it comes to my spending yet she feels bad spending on herself. We lost our home and everything we own to a house fire last year on my 31st birthday. She has since then been replenishing my wardrobe, wine bar, things I enjoy and use and yet she won't go to the mall to buy herself clothing, etc. I finally told her last week that I am ordering her to go out shopping for the entire day to buy whatever she wants or needs and i don't want to hear about it. Hopefully it doesn't bite me in the a** but knowing her, it won't.

My fiance wont spend a dime on herself unless she asks me approval first.

I do not require this at all. She just always asks. It's almost creepy :ss

Naw, my wife makes more money than I do, and she likes stuff.. I don't give two craps what she buys, but she still asks me if she can buy stuff.. I don't buy much for myself, and it kinda pisses her off sometimes.. I haven't bought any cigars in about 3 weeks now... I MIGHT buy some this week, if I can find a good enough deal.

Luckily, mine isn't too worried about spending money. She doesn't go shopping often (being on the road, with one car, makes it hard) but I makes ure if I'm going to make a big cigar purchase...I take her to a Coach store, haha

I have the same problem here. Im always telling my girlfriend to spend money on herself but she wont. She spends alot on me though, my money and hers. She cant stand the smell of cigars, however she is always buying me either cigars or cigar related stuff. She buys me old ashtrays at garage sales, that I like to collect, she is always ordering cigars for me to try, and I have more shoes and cloths than I know what to do with. I ask her friends what she would like, they say "dont even try it, she will bring it back". Im not really complaining, life is good, I just think it would be better if we both enjoyed new things. By the way, she just bought me a bunch of old cigar box top labels that have never been put on a box. Then she put them in nice frames and hung them in my smoking room, what a girl!!!
