Trabalacera Tropical Nicaragua - Hey someone reccomended I pick one of these up at the local shop. No label, and pig tail head. I think they are fairly new, anyone had one before? What'd you think?

I picked one of these up at a local shop over the weekend (it looked like a toro). Looks very well-made, but I haven't smoked it yet.

I like this cigar a lot, very good, love the pigtails, some tend to be a bit underfilled but excellent flavor overall.

If I remember correctly, I have had two of these and was impressed especially for the price. Tropical produces some cigars with unique flavor profiles that I really enjoy on occassion but most (I think) of their sticks have a double binder which causes burn problems for me. Consider checking out the Tropical's Nicarao line for something a bit different also.

Waiting for the Nub 180!
I smoked one a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it. IMO it has a similar flavor to the "El Rey de los Habanos" but a little milder.

Anyone know where I could pick some of these up? I had a few sticks rolled by Pepin that De Le Concha sells and thought these might be the same that you guys are talking about but the ones I got from DLC did not have pig tails so I am guessing it is a different blend. If anyone knows of an online vendor please PM me a link. TIA!

never seen these, i'd also be interested to see if there are any online vendors. what do you ask for when you go to your B&M?

i'm also curious about those tatuaje nuevitas jibaro's i see at my B&M, i hear they're discontinued...

:tpd: I've had the Nicarao. Very nice Nicaraguan Puro.

The whole idea behind this line (JFR= Just For Retailers) is that you have to go to a physical tobacco shop to purchase them. (EDIT) Somehow, however, cigar.com of all places managed to get their hands on some and are selling them online. Only come in boxes of 50 or singles. You can find them here.

:)

I like them alot. I pay $4.60 each at my B&M. Box price of $207 per 50. What's everyone else paying at thier B&Ms?

I'm not sure of the cigars.com ones are the same. I believe the ones I have had and enjoy are from Nicaragua, but cigars.com lists them from Honduras. Also, they list 3 different sizes, and I have only seen one. Not to mention they are about half the price. They're researching them to find out if they have pigtail caps. if they do i'm going to try some, because the price is very attractive...

I have been to the big stores in tampa and orlando. A small shop in Winter Haven is the only place I have seen them. The Boardroom Cigars, proprietor is Ray, really cool guy.

Long time fan.

We have Frank S. (mowee) to thank for convincing Tabacalera Tropical to make this cigar. Previously it had been an "event only" blend. Never underestimate the power of nagging a factory rep! :tu

Last time I was at the store (2 Brothers in Plano) they only had one size, a huge 6 x 60 looking thing. Previously the smallest (robusto) had been my favorite of the 3 sizes.

I have also heard a rumor that Tabacalera Tropical shifted production from Nicaragua to Honduras.

Frank do you know what is up with the JFRs at 2 Bros? I tried the Salamon and still definitely prefer the lil robusto..

I smoked one last night and was very impressed. Good flavors all throughout, burned well, great construction.

Now that I think about it, I think I may have smoked one of these at an event in Dallas Mowee put on last year. If Frank chimes in here: were these available at the Johnnie Walker tasting last year?

Additionally, as I understand the situation, Pepin really no longer has any connection with this line. His association with it terminated when he left Tropical (now Tabacalera Tropical) to go out on his own. He was making these during the travelling rolling demos Matt mentions above and probably had a strong hand in the development of the blend at that time, but I cannot say whether the blend today is the same as it was then, as I have no info on that issue.
