iphone cigar app - thoughts

I'd love to see this for WM also. Some time ago, I spoke with PDS about developing an app that would synchronize our personal humidor inventories and reviews with the T25C database. Perhaps some cross-platform tool would be effective? In my case I'm running an HTC TyTNII and would relish the tool.

Even if you decide to not develop for Windows Mobile, I'd encourage you to do it anyway. It's a cool idea.

How about a FAQ for newbies to learn the basics on sizes, names, ring gauges, blends, countries etc.

Yes I know a quick search could produce such results but this is for an app. Something to ease a newbie onto the slope.

I would buy it!!! also if you need a beta tester im your man! it would be cool to also be able to sync with "cigar register" <-- i didnt think i saw that posted. keep us updated!:tu :ss

Cool idea...I also vote for iTouch compatibility.

It would also be nice to be able to enter shop [B&M or online] and price paid for each stick. Even a spot to add a hyperlink to the shop would be cool so if you are sitting at the humi and realize you are low on something, one touch and you are linked to the shop for an order. [okay..maybe that is a bit much...LOL].

I second and third the motion to get this app off the ground. My lunch hours always try to incorporate a nice robusto at my local shop with my iPhone in hand to peruse CS and the day's news.

I also happen to do some reviews for Smoke Magazine so an app like this would be very helpful.

Have you thought about approaching the major magazines for this help/sponsorship? That would give you an awesome database from which to work.

Either way best of luck!

Sigh...
Sitting here at the VM thinking how great it would be to have that app right now. If you need beta testing I'll be a lab rat for ya! :tu

This sounds like a great idea. Let us know when you get started. If you need any help, let me know. I wouldn't mind helping with testing and any other grunt work.

I think that this would be a great idea as well, my vote is to include the iPod Touch as well. I hope more people reply to this thread :)

Thanks for all the feed back glade to see people think like me.

I still have not started. sorry to say.

Trying to determine the best layout for the app.
Not like you have a ton of screen real estate to deal with.

Also i was thinking first of using one of the scroll pickers (UIpicker) for most of the items but in turn trying to figure out if there is a better way.

Thinking if i use that scroll er you would be there for ever looking up a Cigar Brand since there are so many out there might be scrolling for a while.

Layout and ease of use have to be first priority

also sponsorships would be nice. but this more a learning process for me.
And if i can make back the money i spend on Dev fee's to apple would be awsome.

And be it i have a job, wife and 2 kids on top of this its a spare time thing which is kinda limited.

What do you guys think
Is it better to be able to scroll though lists even if the lists are long?
Looks cooler and can do it with one hand since you will prob be smoking at the time. just might take longer
Or would you rather beable just to type them in.

just kinda thinking out load lol...

I like this idea, I would be happy to Beta it as well as use on my Itouch

I am never without the web if I can prevent it, my itouch is in my hand whenever I am near a wireless network and when not available I am on my browser for my bberry.

I think I would start with whatever is easiest to program. Scrolling should be fine. Can't be worse then scrolling through brands on top25cigar.

I think a main menu separated into brands alphabetically, with each brand opening it's own submenu of marcas would be a good start.

I think it would be a great idea, and had actually posted the same question here about a month ago, but not many saw it...

I was looking at the apps for ScotchPad, BeerPad, and WinePad, which are similar in function, and contacted that developer to see if he'd be interested in developing one for cigars...he replied that he would, but wanted help in designing it. I think it's great that a CS member would be designing an app like this, it's sure to have everything we might need. :tu

I had downloaded the iPhone psd file thinking I may take a stab at putting together a visual mock-up...but haven't got to it yet. But I'd be happy to help out in any way I can, as I'm anxious to be able to have an app like this too!
