Yikes! Wrong time of the "season" for running into you! :D

Well good job with the game. West Point fired the coach after the game, glad the supe finally got the balls to get rid of him. They should've let him go earlier. Army had such a good team under Jim Young [retired], running that wishbone offense. The idiot that replaced him wanted a passing game. Yeah right!

Good to see you, and Beat Navy! [someday  ]

I think the Long Grey Line will do just fine with Bobby Ross at the helm. One of his sons went to USNA and the other to Zoomie land in Colorado, should make for some interesting dinner conversations at his house before those games. Army and Navy both have good young teams, the next few years should be interesting. Go Air Force Go Army except of course when they play Navy. Beat Army.:u :D

Poker,

Do you play with your Wilson? :D And if you do, have you come up with any interesting lineups of your own?

I usually play with my Wilson in my hotel room for about an hour before engaging in the real thing. I did this last time at the Bellagio, and it really got me hot! :D

I'm developing some neat and interesting things to do when I play with my Wilson, so if you do the same with your Wilson, please let me know.

[Why are your buddies wondering about this post?] :D :D

For those of you who already play poker, or for those who are interested in learning, I highly recommend this tool: Wilson Poker Software.

It is excellent! There are free sample downloads too! :)

[P.S. I do not have any type of business relationship with these folks]

Welcome Four Aces..Speaking of playing poker never thought much about it until I started watching the poker shows on ESPN and Travel Network. Texas Holdem is an interesting game to watch..We have a card casino in Minn at Canterbury Park (also horse racing in season) I guess I will have to go there and watch the action and maybe jump in...Can you recommend anything to read or does a guy just watch and when he gets brave enough jump in and get crushed?

Jerry in Minnesota.

Jerry,

Thanks for the note. There are a host of books that one can read.

First, what you are seeing on TV is tournament hold'em, which is a bit different than hold'em cash games. I don't play tournaments, because I find them restrictive, IMHO. Perhaps 'poker' can comment on that. However, a lot of folks do prefer tournament play.

Second, if you are a novice I would start with Poker for Dummies, it is a very good primer, though I found some rules were not explained adequately for beginners, like check and check-raising. Then I would move up to Lee Jones' Winning Low Limit Hold'Em. If you couple the learnings of Jones' book, along with the use of the Wilson simulator for practice, I think you will be okay, though you may be nervous the first time you sit down at a table. The Jones book didn't mean anything to me until I purchased Wilson. The combination of these two, however, modified what I would say was years of mediocre play on my part. I left the "home-game circuit" here in Texas shortly after training myself like this, and now only play in casinos. There are a few more uspcale books, but some are outdated, or are more theoretical. I would, however, recommend these as readings as you increase your experience.

Its ok, just blame me.
Yes, reading will definetly help, as will trying a free on-line (for fun not money) game like those found on www.paradisepoker.com/

Tournament poker is very different from structured betting poker and the stratagy is totally different.

Focus more on structured games with low limits to get a better feel of what the game is like after you feel comfortable enough playing with "funny money" on line.
Problem with "funny money" playing on line, is that there is no risk. You cant lose anything for real, so folks take chances they would not normally make in a real game. Its a whole new ball o wax in a real game.

In a real game just remember the 8 others at the table are there for one purpose...to make you go to the ATM to get more money.

And... to touch your leg under the table. :) At least that's what poker told me the last time we were playing.

Wise words from 'poker' regarding internet play. You can also play with "play money" at Planet Poker. This site has a 5-card draw game also, unlike most of the other boards. I go there every now and then just for fun. 'poker' is correct about the players being loose. Sometimes you will have 9 of 10 players in a hold'em game go all the way to the river card, which is unheard of in live poker. I do not play for real money on the internet.

As for 'Matt R's' comment about the the leg touching. Well watch out for flirtatious and attractive looking women, and the ugly ones too! They are the bane of poker, and will use every trick in the book to get you to think with your little head instead of your big one!

This includes Mrs. Four Aces, who I refuse to sit at the table with. :D The blondes especially like to play "dumb". :D
