Exactly what I did. The bottom part is cedar, but it is stained. I seasoned it for a week, then spent another week monitoring the humidity with two different hygrometers. Stayed at a perfect 65% about 95% of the time. Just a few fluctuations. Been storing boxes down there ever since, with a bottle of GlenFiddich with no problem.The RYJ humi is cool and I have seen it around me. Only problem, for me, is it only really is set up to hold around 200 cigars as the whole bottom part is for wine. I guess you could modify that.
If in fact temp is not an issue I would go for the first one. It looks cool as it is a bit unique.For most of us, I think the vote will be the cooler for better summertime temp control. But up in Washington you may not have a problem with temperature in summer, so a tower may suit your needs just as well. :tu
